OPEN// FM looks forward to strengthening ties with India
CAIRO, June 3 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty voiced hope to capitalize on the momentum witnessed in relations between Egypt and India in recent years to take tangible steps to enhance cooperation in various fields. This came during a meeting on Tuesday with a high-level parliamentary delegation from India, on the sidelines of the delegation's visit to Cairo. During the meeting, Abdelatty highlighted the importance of activating the strategic partnership agreement between the two countries for the best interests of both sides, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tamim Khalaf. The minister highlighted the importance of utilizing the delegation's visit to Cairo to launch institutionalized cooperation at the parliamentary level between Egypt and India, and to explore new horizons for bilateral collaboration. Meanwhile, the minister expressed Egypt's solidarity with India on the back of the terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam in Kashmir on April 22, 2025, referring to the phone call that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi made with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the incident, as well as the calls that Abdelatty made to his Indian counterpart. This reflects the depth of relations between the two countries as well as Egypt's firm commitment to its humanitarian principles that call for addressing all forms of terrorism. Abdelatty expressed Egypt's concern over the spread of terrorism, which has become one of the most serious security threats facing humanity, highlighting Egypt's adoption of an integrated approach to confronting this phenomenon. He underscored Egypt's accumulated experience in confronting fierce waves of terrorism over the past decades. Abdelatty accentuated Egypt's supportive stand for easing tension between India and Pakistan in order to contribute to security and stability in the South Asian region, noting that Cairo has been following with great concern the developments in the region. He noted that Egypt welcomes the India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement and underlined the importance of settling all protracted issues between the two sides through dialogue and diplomatic channels. OPEN// FM asserts Egypt's continued support for Lebanon
CAIRO, June 2 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's continued support for Lebanon and its government and national institutions. He expressed Egypt's total rejection of any infringement upon Lebanon's sovereignty or territorial integrity, stressing the need to implement the ceasefire agreement and ensure the full and immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, as well as the comprehensive enforcement of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 by all parties, without selectivity. The minister's remarks were made during a meeting on Monday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which the two ministers held political consultations on bilateral ties and regional developments, including the situation in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon, in addition to maritime security in the Red Sea and the ongoing US–Iran negotiations. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tamim Khallaf said that the Egyptian-Iranian consultations also covered the latest developments in the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's intensive efforts, in cooperation with Qatar and the United States, to resume the ceasefire agreement, facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and drum up international support for recognizing the Palestinian state, based on the two-state solution. Shifting to Syria, Abdelatty stressed Egypt's full commitment to supporting the Syrian people, and respecting the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Syria. Syria should be a source of stability in the region, Abdelatty said, calling for launching a comprehensive political process that includes all segments of the Syrian society to overcome this critical phase. The consultations also addressed developments in the Red Sea. In this regard, Abdelatty underlined the importance of safeguarding the freedom of navigation, and the dire need to restore calm to the region. The foreign minister welcomed the anticipated positive impact of the recent agreement in Yemen with the United States on maritime security and international trade movement in the Red Sea. Minister Abdelatty listened to his Iranian counterpart's assessment of the outcomes of the five rounds of negotiations between Iran and the US on the Iranian nuclear program. He expressed hope that these negotiations would be successfully concluded, leading to a comprehensive and sustainable peaceful settlement that would contribute to defusing tensions, promoting calm, and preventing further escalation and instability in the region. OPEN// Egypt, Iran assert absolute commitment to consolidating bilateral ties
CAIRO, June 2 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had a meeting on Monday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which they asserted full commitment to fostering bilateral relations. The meeting took place in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Head of Egypt's General Intelligence Service (GIS) Hassan Rashad. In statements, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy said that during the meeting, Minister Araghchi conveyed Iranian President Masoud Bezhkian's greetings to President Sisi. The talks covered the recent developments in the region. President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's firm stance against the expansion of conflict, stressing the urgent need to de-escalate tensions to avoid slipping towards the precipice of a full-scale regional war. Such a war, he further noted, would have grave consequences for the security and stability of all countries and peoples in the region. On this score, President Sisi highlighted the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States as a decisive step in addressing regional tensions. He called for reaching an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensuring the swift delivery of life-saving humanitarian aid to Gazans. He underlined the importance of restoring normal maritime traffic in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea to ensure regional stability. For his part, Minister Araghchi lauded Egypt's role to restore regional stability, reaffirming Iran's commitment to continuing consultations with the Egyptian side in the coming period. CAIRO, May 27 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty expressed Tuesday his aspiration to continue strengthening cooperation between Egypt and Mauritania in various fields, taking into account the strong ties binding them. During his meeting with Prime Minister of Mauritania Mokhtar Ould Ajay, Abdelatty praised the convening of the joint committee and the mutual coordination on various regional issues, especially those related to Arab and African affairs, according to a press release. He stressed the importance of working to advance trade and economic relations between the two countries and to utilize the available capabilities of Egypt and Mauritania. He emphasized the role of Egyptian companies operating in Mauritania within the framework of existing joint projects, and the need to expand these projects to achieve the interests of both countries and their peoples. During the meeting, the two sides also discussed issues of common interest on the Arab and African levels, and agreed on the importance of intensifying coordination and cooperation, which contributes to enhancing security and stability in the region. OPEN// FM leads Egyptian side to Joint Committee meeting with Mauritania
NOUAKCHOTT/CAIRO, May 27 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty led Tuesday the Egyptian side participating in the second session of the Egyptian-Mauritanian Joint Committee. The Mauritanian side was headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug. The discussions reflected the two countries' keenness to maintain mechanisms of consultation, coordination, and joint cooperation, which would contribute to strengthening bilateral relations and elevating them to broader horizons. The committee signed 13 agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two sides in the areas of bilateral investment relations, labor, higher education, social affairs, marine fisheries and aquaculture, water resources and irrigation, capacity building, civil protection, territorial administration, civil documentation, Islamic affairs and endowments, culture, media, youth and sports. It was agreed to maintain the regularity of the Egyptian-Mauritanian Joint Committee meetings, and to capitalize on the momentum generated by the second session in Nouakchott. In the same context, Abdelatty welcomed the convening of the joint economic forum between businessmen from Egypt and Mauritania, which he described as an important platform for strengthening ties between the public and private sectors in both countries and building effective investment and trade partnerships that serve the interests of the peoples of both countries. He highlighted the promising opportunities for investment and trade exchange, especially in the sectors of agriculture, fisheries, mining, energy, transportation, and logistics. The joint committee's work also addressed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, most notably the Palestinian issue and the situation in the Gaza Strip. The committee also tackled a number of issues, including the latest developments in Libya and Sudan, the situation in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel, and counterterrorism efforts. (MENA) A I E/R E E
