Emirhan Demircan 'rejects' Ranger transfer offer as Bayern Munich starlet links up with pricey Celtic flop instead
Emirhan Demircan has knocked back an offer from Rangers to join them this summer, according to a report. The former Bayern Munich youngster has left the Allianz Arena as a free agent after his contract expired. Demircan progressed through the ranks in Bavaria after joining from city rivals 1860 Munich as a teenager. But the Turkish U21 international has snubbed a move to his homeland as well as staying in Germany to join FC Utrecht in the Netherlands. Advertisement He has agreed a three-year deal with the Eredivise club and has undergone a medical ahead of putting pen to paper. And he'll team up with former Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas in Holland. The Greek keeper was a £5million disaster at Parkhead, making just 24 appearances over three years with the club. He was loaned to Utrecht for the 2022/23 season and made the move permanent that summer, and he remains the Dutch club's first choice keeper on a contract until 2028. The 20-year-old joined the Bayern Munich youth academy in 2017 and featured regularly for their reserves last season. According to various reports, including transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Gers were one of four clubs interested in snapping up the starlet from the Bundesliga giants. Utrecht pull off stunt to sign Bayern Munich prospect, medical examination already completed
Utrecht will strengthen their selection with Emirhan Demircan, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on Thursday afternoon (via VoetbalPrimeur). The Turkish talent is swapping Bayern Munich, where he was the second team's top scorer last season, for the Domstad on a free transfer. He has even undergone a medical examination. Advertisement The 20-year-old Demircan is considered a great talent at Bayern. The German-born left winger has played at youth international level for Turkey and was the top performer for Der Rekordmeister's second team in the German fourth tier last term, with six goals and five assists. These figures (in 20 games) earned him the interest of Besiktas, Rangers, Hoffenheim and, of course, Utrecht. Romano understands that Demircan's free transfer is complete. The attacker has even undergone a medical examination at De Galgenwaard, where he will sign a contract until the summer of 2028. With Utrecht, Demircan will play European football. The Domstedelingen finished fourth last season, which qualified them for the second preliminary round of the Europa League. Advertisement Although a great bit of business, Demircan is far from Utrecht's last summer signing. The club previously acquired Gjivai Zechiël, Mike Eerdhuijzen, Derry Murkin, Dani de Wit and Davy van den Berg. They are also working on a longer stay for Sébastien Haller, as was recently reported.
