Hardly Strictly Bluegrass kicks off 25th year with tribute to Emmylou Harris
Hardly Strictly Bluegrass will launch its 25th anniversary celebration with a star-studded tribute to Emmylou Harris, the only artist to have performed at every edition of the free festival in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The event, titled 'A Tribute to Emmylou Harris & 25 Years of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass,' is set for Oct. 2 at the Masonic. The evening is expected to feature Harris performing alongside a roster of collaborators and admirers, including Allison Russell, Albert Lee, Margo Price, Patty Griffin, Rodney Crowell, Rosanne Cash, Sam Bush, Shawn Colvin and Steve Earle. Buddy Miller will serve as musical director, backed by the Red Hot Dirt Ramblers and a band composed of Harris' longtime bandmates. All proceeds from the concert will benefit Bonaparte's Retreat, Harris's Nashville-based dog rescue organization that focuses on senior and medically vulnerable dogs. 'We're about the ones that often get overlooked,' Harris has said of her nonprofit, which she founded in 2004. Launched in 2001 by the late philanthropist Warren Hellman, the free outdoor festival has evolved into a three-day celebration of American roots music, welcoming performers across genres. The lineup for this year's festival will be announced at a later date.
