Gold-Burg ISD closed Friday to address heating system issue
BOWIE (KFDX/KJTL) — Gold-Burg ISD is closed Friday to address an issue with its heating system after concerns about a gas leak caused a student and staff evacuation. In a Facebook post published on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 9:35 a.m., Gold-Burg ISD revealed that a strong gas odor in the building resulted in an evacuation so energy company Enderby could locate the source of a potential leak. Jacksboro community relieved at fully-staffed PD after investigation A few hours later, Gold-Burg announced that the buses were running early routes to take dismissed students home while the gas company continued investigating. Later that day, the district announced it would resume school on Wednesday after Enderby found the gas leak. Then, in another Facebook post published on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 5:13 p.m., Gold-Burg ISD announced the district would be closed on Thursday as the building's heating systems were inspected following a 'new development.' Gold-Burg followed this announcement with a statement to raise awareness of potential carbon monoxide poisoning brought about by its heating system issue and asked that parents monitor their children for symptoms. On Thursday, Jan. 30, at around 4:30 p.m., Gold-Burg ISD Jonathan Lloyd issued a notice for an emergency board meeting to address the public health threat. Shortly before 8:30 p.m., the district issued another post canceling school on Friday, Jan. 31, to continue testing the building for contaminants. In the most recent post, the district thanked parents for their continued support of Gold-Burg ISD. It stated that school is expected to resume on Tuesday, Feb. 4, barring any further action the district must take to ensure the safety of its students. Close Thanks for signing up!
