Construction impacting Gordon Drive starts in the coming weeks
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The Fairmount Street Watermain Replacement Project officially has rough start and end dates, announced the City of Sioux City Engineering Division. According to the press release, the contractor plans to begin construction this June. Starting on or around June 9, Fairmount Street from Leech Avenue to Gordon Drive will be closed to all traffic. This closure is expected until October. There will be a detour route using South Westcott Street and Leech Avenue. The release said, 'The outside eastbound lane of Gordon Drive at Fairmount Street will also be closed for approximately 3 weeks starting June 9, 2025, for utility connections.' This will also include the replacement of sanitary sewer brick manholes, storm sewer, and streetlights. The street pavement as well as the sidewalks will all be replaced. On May 19, 2025, the Fairmount Street Watermain Replacement Project was awarded to Bainbridge Construction, L.L.C. of Kingsley, Iowa, totaling $1.5 million. The project is being done in preparation for the Iowa DOT Gordon Drive Viaduct and Bacon Creek Conduit Replacement Projects, which will require Fairmount Street to be used as a detour route during construction. Part of Jennings Street closed for utility work
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A portion of Jennings Street in Downtown Sioux City has been announced by the City of Sioux City Engineering Division. The division said, starting immediately, Jennings Street will be closed between 5th Street and 6th Street. A private contractor is making utility repairs in the area, and the closure is expected to last until Friday, May 9. Center turn lane to be added to section of Hamilton Boulevard
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Crews will be at work on a section of Hamilton Boulevard in Sioux City next week as they update the street's pavement markings. The Hamilton Boulevard Pavement Markings Project is set to begin on Monday, May 5, the city's Engineering Division said. It will conclude by Friday, May 9 as weather permits. 29th Street to be closed until Fall 2025 for reconstruction
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Parts of 29th Street in Sioux City will be closed for several months as crews begin a multi-year reconstruction project. The first phase of the 29th Street Reconstruction Project is expected to run from March 31, 2025 through Nov. 2025, according to the City of Sioux City Engineering Division. Hawarden nonprofit created to help rebuild community after flooding Stage 1A will involve the closure of 29th Street from Cheyenne Boulevard to Iowa Street from March 31 through September. Meanwhile, from July through November, 29th Street from Jones Street to Jennings Street, as well as Jones and Jennings Streets from Bryant School south to 29th Street, will close as part of Stage 1B. Additionally, Jones and Jennings Streets from Bryant School south to 29th Street will be reconstructed along with the water main lining along Jennings Street. Two different detour routes will be posted during the first phase of the 29th Street Reconstruction Project. The project was awarded Bainbridge Construction, LLC back in Jan. 2025.
