Amid India-Pakistan tensions, LDF government puts off anniversary celebrations in six districts

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday announced the postponement of the LDF government's fourth anniversary celebration in six districts, citing ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. Speaking while inauguraiting the LDF rally in Kannur, the Chief Minister said the decision was taken in light of the Cabinet's view that it would be inappropriate to hold celebrations at a time when the country is confronting a serious threat to its security and unity. 'The country is standing united against terrorism and there is a strong sentiment that terrorist must be dealt with firmly,' the Chief Minister said, adding that Pakistan's support for such groups has also become evident. ' At this moment, we must set aside differences and stand together to defend our sovereignty,' he said. While the 'Ente Kerala' campaign will continue solely as an exhibition and information sharing platform, all associated art and cultural programmes have been cancelled. Morning meetings and LDF rallies scheduled in the six districts have also been deferred. Revised plans for the anniversary events will be announced later, he added.
