Mobile to collect household hazardous waste for free during one-day event — what to know

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Environmental Engineering Department for the City of Mobile is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on April 26, according to a news release. High school students put broadcast skills to the test at statewide competition in Mobile has learned the event will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at James Seals Community Center, 540 Texas Street, Mobile, AL 36603. The free event will give Mobile residents the opportunity to safely discard of items that are unable to be collected during routine trash and garbage service. According to the release, acceptable items include aerosols, automotive fluids, batteries, cleaners, fluorescent tubes, paint, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and more. Some items that will not be accepted include appliances, electronics, equipment, explosives, firearms, pharmaceuticals, and medical waste. According to the release, no registration is required to participate in the event. However, it is only open to Mobile residents, and organizers will be checking participants' zip codes to ensure they live inside city limits.
