New Music Roundup (May 5th

Doechii, Fetty Wap, Kid Cudi & Kali Uchis Highlight This Week's New Music Roundup was originally published on 1. Zacardi Cortez – Ibhar: He That Is Chosen Source:Zacardi Cortez The lead single for the project is the powerful, 'WORK IT OUT FOR ME' and it was written by Travis Malloy and produced by Morgan Turner. 'The song was submitted to me by my good friend Travis Malloy. When I heard it, I immediately locked in on it… I don't know when he first wrote it, but I felt like the song was written just for me. I don't even feel like I do it justice; it's just a BIG song,' shares Zacardi Cortez. Born in Acres Homes (Houston), as the youngest of 5 children to a single mom, Zacardi Cortez learned hardship and lack from an early age but also learned of the keeping power of Jesus. This 7-song EP, 'Ibhar: He That Is Chosen,' is inspired by and a reflection of Zacardi 's journey to understanding what being chosen by God really means. Taking the lead on production, Zacardi crafts a masterful body of work, including features by Jekalyn Carr, Chrystal Rucker, Jason Nelson and Jonathan Nelson. One of the highlight songs from the project is 'It's Gonna Happen' featuring Jekalyn Carr. 'The song came about as I was discussing with my producer Morgan Turner that I always wanted to do a feature with Jekayln Carr and I always wanted to be the kind of writer who can match the artist with the song , and really make it make sense. It fit her so well and I wrote it for her. I then asked her to be on the song and she was immediately down,' mentions Zacardi. Another highlight includes 'Matthew 4:4' feat. Crystal Rucker . Inspired by part of Zacardi's childhood, he tells the story of being eight years old and one day going to the fridge and it was empty. When he asked his mom why there wasn't any food in the fridge, she told him to go read Matthew 4:4. The scripture says, ' But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God .' Young Zacardi read the scripture over and over until he fell asleep that night. Written by his oldest sister Nesha Cortez , this song shares about his early chapter of life. 2. Andre 3000 – 7 piano sketches Source:André 3000 André 3000 has released 7 piano sketches, a collection of instrumental music recorded solo on the piano. This is the first release of new material since his globally lauded 2023 instrumental album, New Blue Sun, earned three GRAMMY nominations, including Album Of The Year. The new music was released on Epic Records, at 8pm EST, shortly after André arrived at the Met Gala in New York City where he wore a bespoke piano creation by Burberry in collaboration with benji bixby and styled by Law Roach, as part of the Met Gala's Superfine: Tailoring Black Style themed event celebrating craftsmanship, structure, Black history, and the evolution of dandyism. The event also marks the debut of benji bixby, an evolution of André's beloved late 00s fashion line, Benjamin Bixby. Partially composed and recorded prior to New Blue Sun, the beginnings of 7 piano sketches came about almost a decade ago, whilst staying in a house in Texas with his son that had only a piano, their beds and TV screens. Having lived with the recordings for a time, André was drawn to the idea of creating more and sharing them in the Spring, a time of year that promises that life, creativity, and possibility are ever-renewing. Says André of the recordings: 'The original title for it was 'The Best Worst Rap Album In History' and here is an excerpt from the original liner notes: 'It's jokingly the worst rap album in history because there are no lyrics on it at all. It's the best because it's the free-est emotionally and best I've felt personally. It's the best because it's like a palette cleanser for me.'' It was recently announced that André will receive an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Music from Berklee College of Music on May 10th as part of their graduating Class Of 2025. In November, he will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame alongside his Outkast bandmate BigBoi. 3. Shunkan – Kamikaze Girl Source:Shunkan - Topic Shunkan, the LA-based rock project of Marina Sakimoto, is excited to share her new album Kamikaze Girl, out now via Houston's Rite Field Records. Marking her long-awaited return, today's release is a record filled with introspective moments, soaring guitars, and gut-punching lyricism. The ten-track album brings its listener through the fire and out again, with Sakimoto's powerful vocals leading the way. Shunkan's first record in over five years, it feels as though they have finally arrived with Kamikaze Girl. Recorded last year in Joshua Tree, CA and produced by Alex Newport (Death Cab for Cutie, Melvins, The Mountain Goats), Kamikaze Girl examines how to put things back together after falling apart. Heralding the announcement was 'Hellbound,' a hazy, melancholic track that expects the worst and wants the best. Grounded by Sakimoto's honeyed vocals, brightly toned guitar riffs reverberate like late-night memories and desire-driven mistakes. Following 'Hellbound' came the single 'Usual Suspects,' a high-energy, punchy track reminiscent of early 2000s emo. Sakimoto's powerful voice and heavy guitar riffs center around lyrics that navigate life amid chaos. Final single, 'Prettier' is packed with meaning, featuring heartfelt lyrics that grapple with self-identity while navigating the complexity of relationships. The song moves from melancholy to anger, communicated by initial slow-pulsing beats that transform into gritty, emotional guitar. Shunkan signed to Rite Field Records last fall and quickly mapped out her first full-length offering since 2019's Cumberland Falls. Sakimoto first debuted the project in 2014 with her first EP, Honey, Milk and Blood, which earned praise from the likes of DIY, Brooklyn Vegan and Far Out Magazine. Shunkan's critically acclaimed first LP The Pink Noise, arrived in 2014 with fan favorite tracks, 'Garden' and 'S.A.D.' 4. Montell Fish – FREESTYLE 01 / GRAMMYXXFEELX2 Source:Montell Fish Continuing to evolve the musical world around his sophomore album CHARLOTTE, Montell Fish shares two new songs'GRAMMY/XXFEELX2' and 'FREESTYLE01.' This pair of new songs follows his surprise release with Murda Beatz and BKTHERULA, 'Same Shit' which Montell co-produced with Murda. The collaborative track was an unpredictable swerve into trap heavy production for Montell, the rap stylings of which he expands upon with 'FREESTYLE 01' and 'GRAMMY/XXFEELX2.' Both new songs bend the limits of what Montell's audience can expect from new music, venturing into rap with melodic flows after sharing three acoustic songs with Days Are Getting Shorter last month. Each new release opens a new sonic path for Montell to explore, who is experimenting with the next iteration of his artist project in real time for fans to follow. Montell will also be heading on The Dream Deer Tour kicking off this Wednesday May 7th, which begins with a completely sold-out run of dates in Australia and continues in Europe this Summer, with a number of festival dates in between. Beginning in Brisbane, Montell will play six sold-out headline shows in Australia before returning to the US to play festival sets at Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City, Governor's Ball in New York and Lollapalooza in Chicago. The tour will continue in August with a series of festivals in Europe, followed by headline dates in Warsaw, Vienna, and Zurich. Remaining tickets for Montell's headline shows are available now at Montell's work is also extending into more experimental and electronic sounds through his dj gummy bear character, which he first introduced with the single '2 Seater'. In building out the intertwining threads between his Montell Fish artist project and dj gummy bear, he made a more direct connection between the two with Intercession Before Charlotte, an EP released last year that placed gummy bear and Montell in direct conversation with one another. Framed as a prophet in the lore that surrounds the character, Montell's music as dj gummy bear serves as a foil for himself, putting a name to the contradicting voice of his internal dialogue about faith, fame, expectations, and the relationships surrounding them. These two versions of himself that Montell has created embody the duality in his world as an artist and the opposing forces that influenced the early parts of his career. Montell Fish deals in intricate and grand alternative pop, while dj gummy bear thrives under the surface, tinkering with the ambient subtleties of his own experimental R&B. 5. Mo Lowda & the Humble – The Painter Source:Mo Lowda & the Humble - Topic Today, Philadelphia-based indie rock quartet Mo Lowda & the Humble share their latest shuffling, smooth groove, 'The Painter' out now. The synth-driven bubbly, encouraging tune aims to break free from self-doubt and attempts to maintain artistic inspiration through self-compassion and patience. The band's spirited, texturally rich fifth studio album Tailing The Ghost is due out June 20 and available for pre-save now. Recorded entirely on the road across America's most scenic settings, the spellbinding LP promises to be the band's most commanding, cohesive body of work yet. Plus, the group will embark on a lengthy North American tour this summer and fall, with support from French Cassettes and Illiterate Light and a slew of festival appearances at Boston Calling, Green River and more. See a full list of dates below and grab tickets now via Led by a steady, shuffling synthy guitar loop, 'The Painter' encourages creativity and shakes off writer's block with its yacht rock-esque, relaxed energy. Jordan Caiola (lead vocals, guitar, bass) says the track, 'tells a story of an artist's journey–marked by doubts from others/themselves, outside pressures and the ongoing process of finding the inspiration and energy to both start and finish projects. With an overarching theme of 'every canvas starts off empty and blank,' this song is meant to provide the nudge and confidence so many creators need to put things out into the world.' Built across many towns, days and cabins, the bouncy, melodic tune came to life in Pioneertown, CA. Pulling modern jazz-forward guitar inspiration from 1970s Pat Metheny and Robert Fripp, Jeff Lucci (bass, guitar, keyboard, vocals) adds it's a nod to 'the constant battle to find and maintain ambition, inspiration, and work ethic, especially once the initial excitement and muse of creating something new wears off. Finishing things is hard, but I think it's everything.' The previously shared double single '7.31/Sara's Got Big Plans' finds the band coming to terms with change and wishing the best to a past love with their signature warmth, gang vocals and rhythm guitar. Earlier this year came the lush, guitar-driven track 'Canary' and its splashy animated music video sinks into the nerves of a budding new romance. RIFF Magazine praised its free-flowing, airy spirit, writing, '['Canary'] has a carefree yet grounded energy. Surf-pop-inspired riffs give it a familiar but fresh feel, perfect for fans of alt-folk with a summery edge.' The highly anticipated forthcoming fifth studio album, Tailing The Ghost, was written fully on the road with four members setting up their instrument stations in a circle, facing each other and working through the arrangements in real time between home-cooked meals, poker games, and movie viewings. Breathtaking views in Joshua Tree, Lake Travis, TX, Colorado and Tennessee inspired its magnetic sound–the arrangements vary from sparse and spacious like the California desert, glistening like various lakes to lush and sweeping like the Rocky Mountains–taking on the energy of the environments in which they were created. Lucci explains, 'More spontaneity, gut and sense of self assurance was embodied in my approach to writing and recording this record than any other.' The album captures who they each were in the moment, fleeting and on the move, which pushed them to record tightly and quickly. Lucci adds, 'It inspired confidence–the cocktail of quickly writing something and recording it rid the band of self-doubt.' The warmth of their true camaraderie is heard in the gang vocals throughout, and each melody lingers long after each track ends. The highly energetic, unmatched live show will grace stages across the U.S. and Canada beginning with Boston Calling in May and will move through Chicago, Vancouver, Seattle, Austin, Los Angeles, Nashville, and conclude in their home city of Philadelphia in November. With new dates across California, Texas and North Carolina added, tickets are on sale now here. Born out of the house show scene in Philadelphia, Mo Lowda & the Humble shared their first album, Curse The Weather in 2013, and have been non-stop ever since–vigorously playing over 90 shows a year. Remaining fully independent, the group have garnered millions of streams across platforms and boasts over 47K listeners on Spotify alone. The quartet has captivated audiences nationally and internationally and have solidified veteran festival status regularly playing Firefly, Peach Fest, Mountain Jam and more. Now, the band is ready to ascend to the next level with an assertive album that showcases their singular chemistry, masterful instrumentation and unparalleled blend of precision and spontaneity. With its tight harmonies and rolling rhythm, Mo Lowda & the Humble's 'The Painter,' out now, offers a buoyant reminder to trust one's own creativity. Tailing The Ghost, their glowing, driving fifth studio album is due out June 20 and available for pre-save now. Don't miss the lively quartet live this summer and fall across North America with tickets on sale now via Keep up with all things Mo Lowda & the Humble on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube and stay tuned for much more to come from the bonafide rockers. 6. Flooding – your silence is my favorite song Source:Flooding - Topic Kansas City's Flooding, the trio fronted by Rose Brown, is excited to announce their new EP, object 1, out this summer. To herald the announcement, 'your silence is my favorite song' arrives today, exploring the fragility of a self-involved male manipulator, with buzzing guitars and haunting vocal delivery from Brown. 'Your bleeding heart, my lucky charm,' is casually sung over building but sparse instrumentation as the song heads towards a breaking point. 'Flooding can be extremely personal most of the time, but I like to explore the perspective of narcissistic villain archetypes sometimes, too,' says Rose Brown. 'It's fun to pretend to be a piece of shit male rock idol for 4 minutes.' Flooding formed in 2021, quickly releasing their eponymous debut album, featuring fan-favorite songs 'Insure Me, Procure Me' and 'Delayed Gratification.' Ranging from whispers and airy guitar riffs to intense lyricism and distorted blasts of noise, the record cemented Flooding's place as a band to have on your radar. Their 2023 record Silouette Machine followed, earning praise from Rolling Stone, Treble Zine, New Noise Magazine and more for its heavy but soothing and otherworldly sound, bringing in pummeling drums and guitars just when the listener gets comfortable. With object 1, Flooding infuses pop-forward songwriting into their sound, trading spoken word for melodies and thinking like pop stars when cultivating the energy of their live show. Flooding's tour across North America with Los Angeles band Cryogeyser ended this past weekend in San Francisco. Tonight, the band will headline El Cid in Los Angeles, CA with Starling before heading to Arizona and Texas for headlining tour dates. For more information on upcoming shows, follow Flooding on Instagram at @floodingks 7. Pixel Grip – Reason To Stay Source:Pixel Grip Underground electronic trio Pixel Grip announces their eagerly awaited independent third album, Percepticide: The Death of Reality, set for release on June 12th. Alongside the announcement, Pixel Grip shares a gripping new single and visualizer, 'Reason to Stay'. Serving as the fourth release and focus track from the album, it's a raw, abrasive offering, pulsing with distortion and resilience, anchored by a pounding bassline where vocalist Rita Lukea leans fully into the chaos–confronting betrayal head-on. Speaking on 'Reason to Stay', Rita Lukea shares, 'The focus track of the album embodies aggression. With a pounding, abrasive bassline and a chorus that's shouted at you: 'What's the point of giving less than 100%? You pushed me to the limit what the fuck you expect?' Rita introduces the idea that resilience can be ugly and wrathful, and when faced with the option to leave, she chooses to stay – 'Just to hear you scream'. Coinciding with the news, Pixel Grip has announced they will embark on their North American headline tour this Fall, which will kick off in St. Louis on September 23rd. The 26-date Percepticide tour will see Pixel Grip trek across the US and Canada before it wraps with a hometown show at Metro in Chicago on November 14th (full dates below). Artist pre-sale begins on Wednesday, venue pre-sale begins on Thursday, and general ticket sales begin this Friday, May 9th at 12PM local time. For more information and ticket purchasing visit 'Reason to Stay' follows the previously released pulse-pounding singles, 'Split', 'Stamina' and 'Bet You Do'. Continuing to push boundaries, Pixel Grip—comprised of Rita Lukea (vocals), Jonathon Freund (synth), and Tyler Ommen (drums) is a genre-defying force. Blending darkwave, electronic, and avant-pop influences, the trio consistently expands their sound while maintaining their signature raw energy and star power. Written over a three-year hiatus between Los Angeles and Chicago, Percepticide: The Death of Reality is the sound of fragmentation, catharsis, empowerment, and rebirth. It's a raw exploration of personal and collective struggles. Born from a period where each member confronted their own demons of betrayal, addiction, neglect, and emotional fracture—the album captures a band navigating the collapse and reconstruction of perception, identity, connection, and reality(ies), resulting in a sonic palette that reflects destruction and rebirth. Pixel Grip shares, 'The album title itself is a portmanteau of 'percipere' (to perceive) and '-cide' (to kill), signifying 'the killing of perception.' Percepticide: The Death of Reality is more than just an album—it's a visceral experience, a statement, and a call to redefine how we see the world.' Rita adds, ''Percepticide' is a cognitive distortion and a symptom of trauma – beliefs you hold to be true are shattered – as you question everyone and everything around you. My dream is that expressing my rage can help someone else feel empowered and at the very least, less alone. You're never stuck, and you're never alone.' Known for their seductive, avant-garde aesthetic and electrifying live performances, Pixel Grip has cultivated a cult following through relentless touring and an unapologetic exploration of themes rooted in desire, power, and liberation, amassing over 7M streams to date. In 2024, they toured as direct support for HEALTH and DEHD, followed by a sold-out North American headline run, including a standout performance at Chicago's RIOT Fest. Their underground anthems 'ALPHAPUSSY' and 'Demon Chaser' have caught the eye of high fashion houses and have been featured on fashion runways for VERSACE and Alexandre Vauthier. Now, with their third album and headline tour on the horizon, Percepticide: The Death of Reality marks a bold new chapter in Pixel Grip's evolution—furthering their sonic and artistic vision into thrilling, uncharted territory. 8. Harrison Lipton – Between Us There Runs a Tether Source:Harrison Lipton Today, New York's soft-rock lone cowboy Harrison Lipton has released his sophomore album Between Us There Runs a Tether via Amuse. An album that almost never was, its origins trace back to a breakup in 2021 that then saw Lipton pack up all his belongings and leave LA to move back to New York heartbroken. Inspired by those few weeks of driving aimlessly cross-country, he returned to the upright piano in the living room of his family home in Connecticut, and in one take holding back tears, wrote the song 'All For Granted.' 'This album is a snapshot of my late 20s,' Lipton shares. 'Feeling down and out, feeling pressured to find the right person to be with, trying to figure out where to go from here, looking in the rearview mirror and seeing the trailing end of a rope connecting the dots between highs, lows, mistakes, heartbreak, joy. And then at the same time, looking forward and seeing that same rope stretching into the future with all the endless possibilities and realizing that I'm just at one point on that line, because Between Us There Runs a Tether.' Recently, Lipton has built up his songwriting and producing credits for other artists including MICHELLE, Yot Club and Morning Silk. His growing experience as a collaborator informed and shaped the artistic process as he revisited his own music: He said, 'I, in turn, wanted my own project to obsess over and tweak ad infinitum, an outlet to express myself. My circumstances of broken relationships and self-defeat meshed with my growing interest in the paradigm of the down-and-out songwriter, the lone cowboy who lost everything, and propelled me toward leaning into my own take on the soft-rock sound of the late '70s. I had finally allowed myself the space to create a record that felt very, very me. This is the truest manifestation of my love for music, and I hope it serves as helping people recognize that this is what a Harrison Lipton song sounds like.' The initial concept of the album saw the gut-wrenching 'All For Granted' as the closing track, but as Lipton sat with his work, he realized that after surviving the emotional gauntlet of the previous few years, the LP needed a more accepting verdict. 'As soon as I wrote 'The End Of The Line,' I knew it was the proper album closer,' Lipton explains. 'Taking the lyrical themes of the previous songs and giving new meaning to them, it's a story about moving forward and turning the page. Only twice on the album do I sing the line 'between us there runs a tether': first, on 'Tether,' when it's a wishful thought at maintaining connection, and then on 'The End Of The Line,' when it's followed by 'but I chose the open road / and I'm alone again.' Also harkening back to 'On My Own,' the thought of being alone now is freeing, and at the end of the record I'm released from the aspect of the tether that was tying me down.' As he artfully meanders through every stage of grief and recovery throughout, the album is tied together by a down-the-road perspective knowing he's better off than he was when he first began. Truly building a community around his work, from the guest features from Yot Club and MICHELLE's Layla Ku, to using studio space from Ian Bakerman and Aidan Ludlam of booyah! kids, Lipton can't help but to feel grateful. 'The point is that it takes a village, and the fact that a community of NYC musicians came together and believed in this album is a tremendous gift, and one that I will cherish long after it's out.' To celebrate the release of Between Us There Runs a Tether, Lipton will host an album release show at Brooklyn's Public Records this Friday, May 9. The night will be opened by Fetch Tiger and Sofia D'Angelo. All show info and tickets here. 13. Riovaz – Everybody's Gone Source:Riovaz Today, Riovaz unveils his latest single, 'Everybody's Gone,' a euphoric anthem with a powerful, introspective message. With his signature vibrant vocals layered over transcendent production, Rio delivers a track that speaks to personal empowerment. He reflects, 'I know who I am — I don't need anyone's permission. Everybody's gone, just like I wanted.' Listen HERE. This release follows Riovaz's explosive, sold-out shows at Chicago's Lincoln Hall and Los Angeles' Echoplex. He's now gearing up to wrap up his tour with upcoming performances in Brooklyn and Austin. Tickets are available HERE. 'Everybody's Gone' arrives on the heels of a whirlwind year for the newly independent 21-year-old artist, following the release of his self-titled debut album, Riovaz. The 11-track project explores relationships, vulnerability, and growth. From the infectious club beats of 'brush it off!!!' to the contemplative 'm I wrong?' and 'warm face,' the album captures a wide emotional spectrum. This debut marks an exciting new chapter for Riovaz, combining catchy melodies with deep emotional insight. Listen HERE. In 2024 he released The Heart Racers, a collaborative EP alongside Kanii and Nimstarr, which highlighted his genre-blending artistry and set the tone for his evolving sound. Shortly after, Riovaz captivated listeners with the standout singles 'I Wonder' and 'Lavender Town,' each of which beautifully reflects his signature atmospheric drum and bass style infused with experimental elements from various genres. This summer, he rounded out his season with performances at Governors Ball in New York and Lollapalooza in Chicago before putting the final touches on the album. The past few years have been an exhilarating journey for the New Jersey native. In 2023, he released his debut EP Disturb The Norm, which garnered praise as 'instantly catchy' (Our Generation), 'cathartic dance perfection' (Ones To Watch), and led Billboard to call Rio an 'irrepressible 18-year-old dance king,' and highlight him as a '21 Under 21' artist to watch. Office Magazine also recognized him as 'boundless in his craft and sound.' The EP paved the way for an exciting adventure as Rio crisscrossed the map, setting stages ablaze with unforgettable performances on his RIORAVE Tour. He brought his show overseas for three additional dates before returning to the states to perform at Pharrell Williams' Something In The Water. That fall, he continued the momentum with the second leg of his sold-out tour. Following the buzz around RIORAVE, he launched a collection of tracks like 'Crying at the Orgy,' a glitchy and moody exploration; 'The Rake (Can't Complain),' an angsty anthem with intimate lyrics and rapid-fire percussion changes that gained traction on TikTok; and 'Waiting Alone.' With a rapidly growing fan base and an impressive array of performances, this journey is far from over—brace yourself for more from Riovaz. 14. Frankie and the Witch Fingers – Dead Silence Source:LEVITATION Today, influential Los Angeles psychedelic punk rockers Frankie and the Witch Fingers have shared 'Dead Silence,' the latest single from their new album Trash Classic (June 6, 2025 // The Reverberation Appreciation Society / Greenway Records). An official video accompanies the track – watch HERE. The band has also prepared an announcement that's sure to thrill fans in London, New York City and Los Angeles – the week leading up to the release of Trash Classic will see them perform at intimate venues in each city. On May 30, the band will perform at London's Shacklewell Arms, before returning to America for shows at New York City's Berlin on June 5 and Permanent Records Roadhouse in Los Angeles on June 7. The new track comes just before their impressive slate of headline world tour dates begins at The Netherlands' Sonic Whip Festival, after which the band will criss-cross mainland Europe before doing the same back in the States later in the summer. See below for the full list of tour dates, including these new album release shows. 'This one's got a nice little origin story,' the band says about the 'Dead Silence.' 'We played a festival in Boise with Spacemoth, Maryam Qudus' brainchild, and met her for the first time there. Cut to a year later, and she's deep in the guts of this record – producing, engineering, twisting knobs, and arranging sounds with us. On the flight home from that Boise show, Josh threw on the Spacemoth album for the first time and got his brain microwaved. He also recorded the plane taking off, just on a whim. That roar ended up in the bridge of DEAD SILENCE. It's a nice crusty texture, but it also weirdly bookmarks the start of it all. Maryam's all over this record. She sings, plays, distorts, haunts – leaving smudges on everything in the best way. She rules, and we were happy to accidentally mark the occasion sonically with a little jet-engine weirdness.' Trash Classic follows another sort of classic, the band's widely-acclaimed 2023 masterwork Data Doom. FLOOD Magazine had an almost prescient take, noting that Data Doom 'feels much more in line with vintage dystopian sci-fi connotations, swapping weed-smoke riffs for frigid new wave pulses.' SPIN Magazine was early on the scene to declare the band has 'become a heavy hitter in the underground rock, punk, and psychedelic circles,' and Exclaim! praised the band's tendency to 'walk the line between chameleonic and commanding, wielding endless inventiveness as a weapon to outsmart artificial intelligence.' In addition to enjoying global press accolades in 2023, the band also played their biggest shows yet (including headline festival appearances), recorded a very special KEXP live session, and reached #3 on Billboard's Alternative New Albums and #4 on Top New Artist Albums charts. Hooks so infectious they rot on impact. Trash Classic marks a feral mutation for Frankie and the Witch Fingers—a record that snarls with proto-punk venom, angular melodies, and electronic textures that cough and sputter like dying neon lights under a poisoned sky. This record pushes the Witch Fingers' sound to a razor's edge. Wiry and twitching, it bends into synth-punk and fractured new wave, with fragments of industrial grime caked under its nails. Guitars detonate and slice like cinder blocks through glass, while gnashing basslines slither through the sludge, alive and seething. Buzzy synths take the forefront, driving relentless rhythms that crack and pop, drenched in a chemically saturated sheen—part bug-eyed speed-freak pogo, part dance-floor delirium. The vocals cut through like static-laced transmissions—balancing both smirk and sneer—layering playful unease over themes of escapism, decay, and overindulgence. The songs were born in the grime of Vernon, Los Angeles—a wasteland littered with gutted RVs and rusting machinery, where the air tastes like asphalt and dog food. But the real alchemy happened in Oakland, at Tiny Telephone Studio, where producer Maryam Qudus (La Luz, Spacemoth) helped transmute the tracks into their final forms. Unhinged tones, unconventional recording experiments, and wild sonic detours transformed the songs into something alive and unpredictable. Every day of recording began with cartoons blaring at full volume—a Looney Tunes ritual that turned the madness of the recording process into something child-like. Late at night, sugar-fueled candy binges kept the energy spiking, pushing the sessions into a fever dream of jittery, spastic playfulness. The result is a raw, twisted monument to rot and excess—toxic glamour and nihilistic salvation. Trash Classic isn't just a record; it's an auditory dumpster bible—a gutter gospel for those ready to dive into its filth. 15. IOTheSinger – I Got A Ticket Source:iothesinger - Topic After being 'Beautifully Broken' earlier this year, IOTheSinger pays the price on her latest release 'I Got A Ticket.' Joined by the in-house ensemble of Chris Fisher (keys), Austin Stahle (guitar), Jon Laine (drums), Jean-Francis Varre controlled the (bass) and Frank Marchand (mixing/recording engineer) alongside Jose Bejaraño Arca, the Country-Pop declaration spotlights the poorly designed healthcare system in the states. The record serves as the Second Single from her forthcoming project IO and is coupled with the announcement of an International Tour which kicks off on May 16th in Córdoba. – 'I have been in situations where I had to decide between paying a bill and seeing the doctor. I have been in situations where I have avoided going to the doctor all together. How am I supposed to pay a ticket or my car note when I cannot afford a doctor's visit or health insurance? I felt trapped, like the system was against me in these situations, I was going under and mad at the CEO's, the 'man' who live off of my hard earned dollars working paycheck to paycheck. The Iyrics, I got a ticket but I've got rent to pay, are a real sentiment a lot of Americans are feeling especially now. I wrote this song for the people like me who need to yell and scream at the people in power who do not see us or our needs,' the artist formerly known as AYO reveals in a press statement to Medium Creative Agency. 16. Landstrip Chip, G Herbo, Babyface Ray, OG Parker – Trophies Source:Landstrip Chip Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum artist Landstrip Chip returns with 'Trophies,' uniting three standout voices in hip-hop: G Herbo, Babyface Ray, and Chip himself. Riding over a sleek, minimalist beat crafted by powerhouse producers OG Parker, Jetson, and S Dot, the track serves as a gritty yet triumphant celebration of success. With razor-sharp verses and a victorious tone, 'Trophies' captures the relentless hustle and earned glory of its collaborators. Chip previously released the singles 'Both Ways,' 'No More Rainy Weather' ft. Biirthplace and 'Switching Positions' ft. Vory. Atlanta's Landstrip Chip was a teenage member of the group Rebel Gang alongside Yak Gotti and Rico Cash, and he garnered invaluable experience, signing his first major label deal, recording in the studio, and performing live. Instead of attending 'proper' audio engineering school, he holed up in fellow producer Sonny Digital's home studio and personally engineered sessions for various Atlanta luminaries, including Migos, ILoveMakonnen, Bankroll Fresh, Tracy T, and OJ Da Juiceman. During this time, he ignited a prolific run as a producer. Working with Ella Mai, he crafted the platinum-certified '10,000Hours,' platinum-certified 'Watchmacallit' [feat. Chris Brown], and gold-certified 'DFMU.' Among dozens of tracks, his catalog expanded with'Like I Used To' for Tinashe, '4Min Convo (Favorite Song)' for A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, 'Flewed Out' [feat. TA Thomas – Southern Soul Source:TA Thomas - Topic Today, rising R&B singer-songwriter TA Thomas uncovers his new EP, The Southern Soul EP, out now via High Standardz/Def Jam Recordings. The five-track body of work captivates with a downright undeniable hybrid of soul, R&B, blues, and gospel. On the opener 'Risky,' divinely bright keys give way to a tiptoeing bassline accented by echoes of guitar. His lovestruck delivery enchants as he declares, 'Your face speaks a language that I embrace when I'm with you,' going on to urge, 'Loving is easy, so give it a try.' A slow drip of funk guitar and piano wash over a sparse beat on the alternately sultry and cheeky 'Angry.' He flexes his range during the sky-high hook, 'I love it when you get angry.' Elsewhere, 'Devotion' hinges on a skittering beat as he wonders, 'How deep is your love?' His falsetto takes the spotlight as cinematic strings resound. Then, there's the soulfully sweet 'Girl Of Mine.' The vocals swoon over a deftly plucked bass, and he sets the scene, 'Let me tell you about this girl.' The momentum picks up with the tempo and he promises, 'I'll never find a girl as good as mine.' He paved the way for The Southern Soul EP with 'Preach.' The latter has already amassed 324K Spotify streams. Earning immediate critical acclaim, Rated R&B professed, 'The divine track, co-written by Lucky Daye, finds TA enraptured by his love interest's allure while confessing his willingness to surrender to temptation.' Billboard touted it among 'R&B/Hip-Hop Fresh Picks of the Week,' going on to state, 'TA Thomas has been committed to making real R&B — rapid-fire riffs, bare chest and all — for some time now, and he's doubling down with 'Preach'.' Listen HERE. TA Thomas continues to showcase his artistry and storytelling prowess with each new release. Last year, he initially delivered 'Angry.' Earning acclaim, ESSENCE hailed it on 'Best New Music This Week,' and Rated R&B praised it as 'alluring.' Billboard named it one of the 'R&B/Hip-Hop Fresh Picks of the Week,' going on to highlight how, ''Angry' showcases the beauty of experiencing the full emotional spectrum with the person you love the most.' Now, he's poised to make a lasting impact on the R&B landscape. 18. Honey Bxby ft. Toosii – 3AM Source:Honey Bxby Honey Bxby isn't letting up. The New Jersey-born R&B breakout returns with her latest slow-burning anthem, '3AM' featuring platinum hitmaker Toosii. Out now via Rebirth Ent./ART@WAR/Warner Records, the seductive duet sets the tone for her highly anticipated EP Raw Honey, dropping May 30. '3AM' oozes late-night longing — all smoky vocals, simmering tension, and undeniable chemistry. It's the kind of record made for replaying when the lights are low and feelings run high. The new single follows the buzz of 'Think I Might' and showcases another layer of Honey Bxby's artistry — softer, more vulnerable, but just as commanding. Raw Honey promises more of that duality: sweet and unfiltered, tender and bossed up. With major co-signs from legends like Mary J. Blige and Busta Rhymes, a fire collab with Fivio Foreign, and tour runs alongside Sexyy Red, Flyana Boss, and SAINt JHN, Honey Bxby is staking her claim as one of R&B's most compelling new voices. You can apply that to life in so many different ways. It's a universal concept.' KD added, 'We're all faith-based individuals. I believe you reap what you sow. The song captures this sentiment. How whenever you've come out of relationships that let you down, it's hard not to expect the same thing out of a new relationship and it almost feels stupid to let yourself trust someone again. We wrote this song about getting to a place where you can't find the loophole in someone even if you try and slowly feel ready to love again.' It offers a powerful visual complement to the themes of longing and self-confrontation found throughout the EP. Bittersweet is a deeply personal, five-track exploration of the emotional dualities that shape us—joy and grief, nostalgia and release, tenderness and rage. At its heart, the EP is about the loss of a formative friendship and the emotional aftermath that follows. Through confessional lyrics and soul-soaked melodies, Rihannon processes what it means to grow apart from someone you once considered family, while learning how to honor that history without being held back by it. Released in April, 'Lie I Can't Deny' offered a haunting glimpse into heartbreak and self-preservation, anchored by Rhiannon's lyrical depth and soul-soaked delivery. The accompanying live performance video—filmed in one take at Troublemaker Studios in Austin and featuring her father Robert Rodriguez's band, Chingon—further highlighted her commitment to honest, stripped-down storytelling. Her debut single 'Pink Lemonade' introduced a brighter energy: a nostalgic tribute to friendship, innocence, and fleeting moments of joy. 'I named it Bittersweet because every song holds a little of both,' says Rhiannon. 'Even in the best memories, there's a trace of sadness. Even in heartbreak, there's growth. This EP is me learning how to live with that.' Raised in a creative household filled with film, music, and visual art, Rhiannon Rodriguez brings a multidisciplinary approach to everything she touches. Her work merges bedroom pop, indie soul, and jazz-influenced vocals with immersive visual storytelling—crafting a world that's entirely her own. Bittersweet is available now on all streaming platforms. 28. Sam Varga – Long Way Back Source:Sam Varga - Topic Nashville-based artist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Varga returns with his poignant new single, 'Long Way Back,' a raw, reflective track that dives into the emotional wreckage of staying too long in the wrong place. 'Long Way Back' blends Sam's emo-rooted honesty with stripped-down, Americana textures—including a touch of mandolin—that deepen the song's introspective weight. It's a story of heartbreak told in hindsight, where clarity only arrives once you're already lost. 'I was with someone special for a long time, but deep down, I always knew it wasn't right,' he shares. 'One day, you wake up miserable, wondering how you got there. I think we've all been in something we knew wasn't for us. The longer you stay, the harder it is to leave, and the longer it takes to find your way back. It's like missing your exit on the highway and watching it disappear in the rearview, getting further and further away. Eventually, you have to tear yourself away to save yourself.' Sam Varga is a Nashville-based artist blending his emo roots with Southern grit and singer-songwriter soul. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, he came up in the city's DIY emo scene, cutting his teeth on loud guitars, basement shows, and late-night chaos. At home, his parents filled the house with '80s rock, Southern staples, and classic lyricists, giving him a rich musical foundation that laid the groundwork for his genre-blurring sound. That blend of raw punk energy and emotional storytelling forms the backbone of his sound, landing somewhere between alt-country and rock, woven with acoustic textures and dynamic instrumentation. Addictive, sharp, and self-aware, Sam's music is emotionally unfiltered, self-deprecating, and unflinchingly human. Whether he's unpacking existential dread or offering hard-won hope, his songs are made for long drives, post-party spirals, and those fleeting moments when you just need everything to make sense for a few minutes. His 2024 debut album Shadow Work carved out space on the emo-tinged edges of the country world, where steel guitars, emotional gut-punches, and punk spirit converge. Now, with 'Long Way Back,' Sam Varga pushes that sound further—deepening the alt-country edge without losing the vulnerability and urgency that sets his music apart. 29. Connie Diiamond – JAT Source:Connie Diiamond Just in time for summer, rising Bronx spitter Connie Diiamond turns up the heat with a new single entitled 'JAT' out now via Def Jam Recordings. LISTEN HERE. The track's hard-hitting beat pulsates with Jersey club energy punctuated by straight-from-the-street grit. She bodies the production with an uncompromising flow, ripping through fast-paced bars with cocky panache. It culminates in a chant where she quotably teases, 'Think it's fat from the front, wait till you see from the back!' This one's bound to pop off as a fan favorite anthem. Plus, she included an 'Instrumental' and 'Slowed Version' of the song. This release follows her recent single 'Letter To My Fans.' At the end of 2024, she served up Underdog Szn: BRB, which boasted an A-list cohort of guests such as Remy Ma, Cash Cobain, Joe Budden, Don Q, and more. Moreover, 'Shoot' graced the soundtrack for NBA 2K24, and BET selected her as its BET Amplified for March. She also performed at the 2024 BET Awards Red Carpet Live Preshow. Among many accomplishments, Connie has notched major co-signs from the likes of NBA superstar LeBron James, who marveled at her viral Ludacris-sampled freestyle in 2023. The rapper then made waves with the release of her debut LP, Underdog SZN, featuring Dame D.O.L.L.A., Don Q, and more. Get ready for a whole lot more from Connie Diiamond in 2025. 30. June Freedom – Oh My Lady Source:June Freedom Global Afro-fusion artist June Freedom returns with 'Oh My Lady,' a lush bilingual anthem that fuses English and Cape Verdean Kriolu to explore the magnetic power of intimacy and emotional presence. Out now via EMPIRE/Flight Club Music Group, the track adds another layer to June's evolving sound, blending heartfelt storytelling with rich soul-soaked textures. Produced by Nigerian hitmaker Abolaji Collins Kuye (Rema, Mayorkun, Nana Fofie), 'Oh My Lady' is anchored by shimmering guitar lines and a breezy organic groove. It is a sonic journey through Afro-Fusion, Pop, and R&B, warm and atmospheric with an emotionally resonant core. Abolaji's melodic instincts complement June's smooth vocal delivery, creating a track that feels both intimate and expansive. June shares, ''Oh My Lady' is about the thrill of intimacy. Two souls locked in, fully understanding each other on every level: mind, body, and soul.I wanted to capture that rare kind of love that holds you down but still lets you fly. It's like waking up to peace and falling asleep in passion.' More than just a love song, 'Oh My Lady' is a reflection on emotional presence, honoring the quiet beauty of deep connection through moments like slow mornings, shared silences, and unspoken glances. The table becomes a lasting symbol of chosen closeness, a place for grounding no matter where life may lead. With its cross-cultural flavor, rich instrumentation, and lyrical vulnerability, the song is an invitation to pause, connect, and feel. 'Oh My Lady' follows the previously released singles 'Bonita,' 'DOROMA,' and 'Options,' continuing a bold sonic streak that highlights June's creative range. ABIR – The Tip Off Source:ABIR Moroccan-born, US-raised singer ABIR makes a powerful return with her latest 3-track EP The Tip Off, out now via EMPIRE. The project features the previously released fan favorites 'Butterflies' and 'Made 4 U,' and introduces the stunning new focus track 'Something Real.' Produced by Grammy-winning, multi-platinum producer NES (Bryson Tiller, Drake, Snoh Aalegra, 6LACK, GoldLink), 'Something Real' is a stunning Arab-influenced R&B record that finds ABIR at her most honest. On the track, she confronts her fear of intimacy and the desire to let love in. ABIR shares, 'The Tip Off EP is about the beginning of love. The butterflies, trusting in divine alignment, and the challenge of not folding when real love asks more of you. 'Something Real' was a turning point for me. It came from realizing that if I wanted something deep, I had to unlearn the fearful ways I used to protect myself. These songs are about softening, surrendering, and fully diving in, even when uncomfortable. Vulnerability was the only way I could grow.' With over 500M streams to date, ABIR stands as one of the most exciting voices redefining modern pop and R&B through the lens of her Arab identity. Born in Fez, Morocco, and raised in Virginia, the Los Angeles-based singer first broke through with her gold-certified hit 'Finest Hour' and her debut EP Mint. On her follow-up project Heat, she leaned more boldly into her roots, blending the rhythms and textures of Arab music with sleek, genre-bending production. Both lyrically and visually, ABIR's work challenges stereotypes and expands the narrative of what it means to be an Arab woman in music today. After nearly four years, she returns with The Tip-Off, a powerful new statement from an artist whose voice is as fearless as it is unforgettable. Stay tuned as ABIR's next chapter begins. This boundary-breaking voice in global music has much more to offer. 33. Kali Uchis – Sincerely, Source:KALI UCHIS Today, GRAMMY®-winning global recording artist Kali Uchis releases her highly anticipated fifth studio album, Sincerely, — stream HERE via Capitol Records. Her most intimate and vulnerable body of work to date, the 14-track record is a testament to the curative power of deep love, and a powerful representation of the way Uchis romanticizes life and her inner world. Written and executive produced by Uchis, Sincerely, finds the genre-traversing star feeling more herself than ever. The Colombian-American singer-songwriter's signature dreamy vocals float across timeless ballads, breezy soul, and breakbeat-backed grooves — all bound together by a hard-won sense of peace and protection that coincided with Uchis welcoming her first child into the world last year. In both substance and style, standout track 'All I Can Say' distills the album's mood into three perfect minutes. Over vintage doo-wop that seems to float above life's daily chaos, Uchis' voice hits a heavenly register as she sings, 'All I can say, is that you belong with me / And a dreamer should dream, how else would dreams turn reality? / And my peace of mind? No, it will not be destroyed / By lost souls on the decline, who only strive to divide.' Uchis announced her latest era in March with lead Sincerely, single 'Sunshine & Rain,' an ethereal song about, in her own words, 'embracing a life of enjoyment despite the world or your circumstances.' This was followed up in April with the soothing 'ILYSMIH,' which not only brilliantly captures the complex emotions that come with new motherhood, but also includes the sound of her son's laughter — underscoring just how deeply personal Uchis' music has become. Sincerely, contains nuance, too, as Uchis revisits pain from the past ('It's Just Us'), considers her imperfections ('Silk Lingerie'), and issues unsubtle warnings to any who would disrupt the life she's worked so hard to build ('Territorial'). 34. Jack Van Cleaf – JVC Source:Jack Van Cleaf Today, Jack Van Cleaf released his critically acclaimed sophomore album JVC via Dualtone Records. Planting its flag halfway between the worlds of indie rock and Gen Z folk, the album asks big questions about identity, home, and adulthood. The album is the culmination of a journey that began during his teenage years. 'This album is all about the vertigo of growing up, It's about re-defining and re-understanding yourself.' Listen to JVC HERE Accompanying the album, Van Cleaf released a video, directed by Joey Brodnax, for the powerful album cut, 'Hikikomori.' A Japanese term describing individuals who isolate themselves from society, often staying in their homes for extended periods, often months or even years. An issue Jack has grappled with personally, he stated, of the song, ''Hikikomori' is a Japanese term for a specific kind of severe social isolation, the details of which resonated with me in my depressive slump post-college-graduation. After writing the song, re-discovering it in my voice memos, and working it out with the band, 'Hikikomori' revealed itself to be an accurate, succinct representation of the album as a whole. The desperation of the lyrics alongside the outlaw-inspired production evoked the inner desolation that I was seeking to illustrate with JVC, like the West Texas desert where we recorded it.' 'I've long been inspired by Joey Brodnax's work,' Jack continues. 'Sam Lindsey (the creative director for my videos) and I wanted to bring him on to help us create a world within a world: a hallucinatory dimension that envelops a character who never steps outside to see the light of day. We had a blast going on that journey with him.' Watch music video HERE Jack performed to a sold out crowd at Nashville's Blue Room last night and his forthcoming tour dates will see him perform in cities including: Chicago, Austin, and more. With support by special guests Ethansroom and Emma Ogier. Tickets are on sale now. For more info, visit Jack will also host a GRAMMY museum Spotlight in LA moderated by Mikael Wood of the LA Times on Thursday, May 29, 2025. For more information and tickets visit HERE Jack Van Cleaf – described by Consequence as 'a Nashville-based artist [who] has retained the grit and authenticity that have made him a buzzy name in Music City and beyond' – was still an independent artist when 'Rattlesnake' became a viral hit in 2023, earning praise from songwriters like Noah Kahan (who hand-picked Jack as the opening act on his sold-out Stick Season Tour) and Zach Bryan (who began covering the song online). For Jack, it felt like a pivotal moment in a career that had been building since his teenage years. Years after penning his first song as a high school freshman in San Diego, Jack headed east to Nashville, where he studied songwriting at Belmont University and released his debut album, Fruit from the Trees, after graduation. Jack experienced unprecedented early industry debut album buzz, drawing the attention of the likes of Noah Kahan, opening for him on Jack's first ever major US tour, as well as touring with artists from Briston Maroney to Madi Diaz. When his single 'Rattlesnake' landed him a spot on Spotify's 2024 Best New Artist List with tastemaker playlist 'juniper,' it drew over 13 million streams, and one fan in particular, Zach Bryan, became a major champion of Jack, covering the track on his social media. This unexpected success induced an intense period of self-doubt in Jack, 'I was shell-shocked,' he remembers. 'I'd spent my whole life being told what to do every single day, and I always dreamed about growing up to be my own boss. Then graduation came, and I got what I wanted… but I realized I had no idea how to function on a day-to-day basis.' He regrouped and retreated to his songwriting, and found solace in creating music in far-flung locations like Joshua Tree and the Texas/Mexico border, where he and producer Alberto Sewald (Katy Kirby, Sierra Hull) created this remarkable body of work. Those geographic choices were deliberate, their landscapes evoking the spiritual barrenness of Jack's lyrics. 'I felt like I was staring into an emotional desert when I wrote these songs, experiencing this feeling of desolation around me and looking for little signs of life,' he explains. Alongside all-star collaborations with established stars like Zach Bryan and Gatlin — who features on seize-the-day anthem 'Teenage Vampire' — the album also features his closest friends, Austin Burns, Ethan Fortenberry, Hunt Pennington, Adam Carpenter, Nathan Cimino, and Aaron Krak – plus Annika Bennett and Heaven Schmitt (aka Grumpy) who contribute background vocals – whom he met during his time at Belmont University and remain part of his closest creative circle. Previously, Jack's confessional and cathartic folk songs have garnered comparison to sparse verses of Nathaniel Rateliff and Gregory Alan Isakov and the directness of Kris Kristofferson and Leonard Cohen. On JVC, Jack takes another approach, focusing on blurring the dividing lines between acoustic singer-songwriter and electrified indie music. The result is an expansive sound, sparse one minute and grungy the next, dreamt up by an artist who's never been afraid to write songs that shine a light on his own challenges. A sharply-written record that measures the long, winding road from past to present, deftly capturing the vertigo of early adulthood, drawing on his own struggles with his post-college success and disorientation that followed. Songs like 'Green', a climate-conscious song whose indie rock pop hooks heighten the song's activist bite, and moody acoustic rocker 'Shouldn't Have Gone to L.A.' find Jack in transit, caught between locations without a clear anchor. His songs draw on deeply personal experiences including a constant evolving approach to religion and the emotional gravity of young adulthood to its full. Jack recently released a new version of single 'Rattlesnake,' a reimagination of his own viral hit featuring a new duet with friend and fan Zach Bryan. It also featured every musician who had appeared on the song's first recording, a group composed of Jack's best friends from college. Setting up shop at Electric Lady Studios, they recorded the heart of the new production live, leaning into instinct and inspiration as Zach and Jack traded off lines in the spur of the moment while co-producer Eddie Spear captured their camaraderie. Listen to single HERE. Watch music video directed by Ivey Redding HERE On the track, Jack stated, 'Zach started sharing the song on social media, then eventually sent me a DM that said, 'If you ever want to record a version of this with me, I'm in!'' Jack remembers, adding 'Zach really inspired me in the studio. I was moved by his dedication to the moment and capturing something alive, rather than painstakingly pursuing perfection with endless takes.' Zach Bryan stated on Instagram, 'To become the best of friends with people through music in the city. Think that may be the point of all this. Jack & me re-recorded one of the best written songs of all time (jack is a genius) and hope u guys listen to it.' With JVC, Jack Van Cleaf turns personal experience into something universal: a soundtrack to the years we all spend in existential free-fall, and while he finds gravity in the chaos, he has also made an album set to establish him as one of the biggest breakout singer-songwriters of his generation. 35. Keke Palmer – My Confession Source:KeyTV Network 'MY CONFESSION,' is the second single from KEKE PALMER's forthcoming album, 'JUST KEKE.' The album will be released on Friday, June 20th, 2025. 'My Confession, I mean…yea. I don't like to say much, but music for me is a way to express myself and the things I need to get out, but don't always want to say, but will sing.' Originally written and produced by Bryan-Michael Cox, Jermaine Dupri and Usher Raymond. The new interpretation of the classic is written by Tayla Parx, Kameron Glasper and Keke Palmer and produced by Jeia, Albin Tengblad and Tayla Parx. 'Just Keke' is the mark of a new era for me. An evolution of everything I had to be and become to survive and grow as a person and artist. It's all about fragmentation and the path to integration. I created it with my best friend of 22 years, Tayla Parx—someone who knows me inside and out. This project is a raw, emotional journey of me facing myself, my love, my vulnerability, my relationships, and my truth. My hope is that it takes you to a place of remembrance,' shares Keke. 36. Little Feat – Strike Up The Band Source:Little Feat Today, Little Feat – criminally underrated pioneering rock band – released their 17th studio album, Strike Up The Band, out now, via Hot Tomato. LISTEN HERE Accompany release was a video for very much non-bluegrass song 'Bluegrass Pines,' which features Molly Tuttle on guitar and Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams on backing vocals and was co-written with Grateful Dead's lyricist, Robert Hunter and Relix Magazine stated 'establishes a big band sound, with the quick trill of instruments and a mood of Romani folk that begs for a skirt-twirling embrace far from the title's suggested bluegrass lean.' This song, which was from a batch band co-founder and keyboardist, Bill Payne co-wrote with Hunter, like the best Little Feat songs, combines complicated music ideas and takes people on a sonic journey with many twists and turns. 'When Robert Hunter and I began writing, he usually sent me the lyrics first,' recalls Payne. 'After several times of doing it this way, he suggested I send him the music first. I had a short instrumental entitled 'Banjo Wanderings.' I was amazed at how this small clip inspired the expansive and wonderful lyrics he called 'Bluegrass Pines.' The music I gave him essentially covered only the chorus. Everything else was the result of his imagination and my mining of the melody and chords from the scenery he painted. He asked at one point through e-mail—the only way we ever communicated—if I knew who Lash LaRue was, and I told him yes, he used a whip to go after the desperados rather than use a gun.' Payne continues, 'I love this song and its influence on those who performed it. I love the intelligence and spirit that Molly Tuttle, with grace and beauty, created, through her legato acoustic guitar lines with Scott's soaring slide, a dance of kinetic magic. Larry Campbell and Teresa William's vocals, powerful, and at times angelic, provided the perfect tapestry for me to sing against. I thank Robert Hunter for his gift.' Little Feat tour the US with shows including Montclair, NJ this evening and culminating in a three-day festival in Woodstock, New York for August 30 through September 1 with plans to record performances for a new live album. Tickets go on sale via At this point in its illustrious, nearly 60-year career, rock legends Little Feat could be excused if they wanted to take its proverbial foot off the gas. However, that wouldn't be in Little Feat's DNA. From the very first note of Strike Up The Band, you will hear Little Feat–who have been rocking and rolling since 1969– mean business. Little Feat built a cult following in the late 60s and 70s for their pioneering gumbo of New Orleans rhythm-and-blues, country, hard-rock, funk, and jazz. Celebrated as a key influence by icons from Bonnie Raitt to The Rolling Stones (and more recently current stars like 1975's Matt Healy), yet, commercial success remained at arms length. Songs like 'Dixie Chicken,' 'Spanish Moon,' 'Fat Man in the Bathtub,' and 'Rock and Roll Doctor' are legends in the rock and roll songbook. They have released a total of 16 studio albums and 10 live albums to date. Through the ups and downs, love and loss, the lineup shifts, and endless touring they have remained together and the closest of friends. Their wilderness years, when the band was on periods of hiatus, individual members collaborated with a laundry list of legends including Bob Dylan, Boz Scaggs, J. J. Cale, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Buffett, Doobie Brothers, Emmylou Harris, Bryan Adams, Pink Floyd, Bob Seger, Toto, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Carly Simon, James Taylor, Stevie Nicks, Robert Palmer, Bob Weir, Mick Fleetwood, Phil Lesh – you name a musician from the classic rock era, they have likely played with them! Their elastic lineup has included the late great Lowell George, founding drummer, Richie Hayward, and guitarist Paul Barrere, and to this day features founding member Bill Payne on keys, alongside the classic lineup of Fred Tackett on guitars/vocals, Kenny Gradney on bass, and Sam Clayton on percussion/vocals. They recently enlisted younger members Scott Sharrard on lead/vocal and Tony Leone on drums/vox which reinvigorated their creative spirits and live show. The seeds for Strike Up the Band may have been initially planted in 2019, but the current iteration of the band coalesced it in 2021. Following a year of zapping files back and forth due to the pandemic, that November was when the band first started jamming with guitarist/vocalist Scott Sharrard, who joined in 2019, and drummer Tony Leone, who joined in 2020. 'Once again, we're introducing something that we're going to call Little Feat to people who would be accepting and some who would not,' Payne says. 'The ramp to believing in ourselves was in the songs we wrote. And the minute we had this new band, we wanted to be realistic and that was to make a record.' To solidify the writing, Payne left his home in the West and headed to New York. In just four days, he wrote three songs with Sharrard and Leone. That window spawned one of the album's finest tracks, '4 Days of Heaven, 3 Days of Work.' 'Bill brought this title to Tony and I, and I knew immediately that we were going to cook something up that would be special,' Sharrard says. 'The lyrics and music embrace what I call 'Gonzo Funk,' Little Feat's unique brand where you combine a slinky groove with some far-out lyrical imagery.' Together with producer Vance Powell (Phish, Chris Stapleton, Jack White), and collaborators including Blackberry Smoke's Charlie Starr and Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, they created their new album in Nashville, and Strike Up The Band is destined to be considered their later year magnum opus. Songs like funk-fueled 'Too High To Cut My Hair,' which tastemaker PASTE MAGAZINE described as sounding, 'as good as ever, cutting a funk track with the fire of a wicked blues tempo,' as well as 'Shipwrecks,' are as dexterous, considered, and creative as any song Little Feat has created to date. Their lyrics are inventive, transportive, abstract, and emotive in their pursuit of celebrating the good times and holding you close in the bad. Guitars scream and slide, pianos rock and boogie, and drums shuffle you down the road in a way that only Little Feat can. This is the album Little Feat fans have been waiting for and is an undeniable statement from a band who in many ways are just getting started in their 56th year. With buzz off the back of their GRAMMY nomination for their recent album Sam's Place, their own festival, a newly announced national tour, and much more in the works, Little Feat are not weathered statues in the hall of rock fame. They remain the collective and creative force they have always been. The beauty of Little Feat perhaps lies in the band's ability to continuously evolve yet keep the spirit of what we all know and love about them, constant and alive. At this stage in a band's career, few, if any would be willing to evolve at the level Little Feat does. That in itself, is quite the feat. 37. Isaiah Stone – Soul Exchange Source:Isaiah Stone - Topic Rising multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter Isaiah Stone returns with 'Soul Exchange' – a gripping new single that merges funk-laced grooves, and raw emotion. Released via Infinity & Records, the track finds Stone channeling the push and pull between heart and mind. ''Soul Exchange' is a song I wrote about being consumed, and the internal conflict of mind and heart,' Stone shares. 'Written in my room late at night, the song came to me within seconds, almost writing itself. I hope listeners can find whatever personal truth resonates.' 'Soul Exchange' follows a string of standout introductory singles: 'No One Cares,' 'Leavin!' and 'Get Down'. The songs introduced listeners to Stone's world: emotionally resonant, genre-fluid, and steeped in intention. Raised in a cult where secular music was forbidden, Stone found early creative refuge in church where he learned drums at two and eventually taught himself guitar, piano, and production. After escaping that world at age 12, music became his compass. He sought solace in albums by Prince, Sly and the Family Stone, and later, Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar. Now 23 and based in Atlanta, Stone's sound fuses rock, funk, and soul with self-reflective lyricism highlighted by his signature raspy, magnetic vocal style. With a DIY spirit and a growing catalog, Isaiah Stone is crafting a sound that honors rock's Black roots while pushing forward a message of radical authenticity. As his star continues to rise, 'Soul Exchange' offers yet another glimpse into the depth of his artistry and sets the stage for an incredible show to come. 38. 'This song is about a rambling man who meets his match and falls in love' states Callum about the track that was co-written by Dustin Lynch and produced by Dann and David Huff. 'He can't help but blush about how much he's changed. Sure, he misses the good old days, but nothing competes with what he's found. It's a classic acoustic sounding love song with plenty of rugged imagery.' Also, Callum is scheduled to perform at Nashville's famed Whiskey Jam, Thursday, May 15th at 9pm, a part of the ONErpm Takeover show. In addition to his music career, Callum is also an actor appearing in 13 different movies and TV series including Monarch on Fox, Wheel of Time on Amazon and Virgin River and One Piece, both on Netflix. 39. Shakira decided last minute to add 'Hips Don't Lie' to her album

Shakira's 'Hips Don't Lie' almost never made it onto her album. The 48-year-old singer had completed work on her 2005 record 'Oral Fixation, Vol. 2' but she then got into the studio with Wylcef Jean and knew instantly they had a hit on their hands, so she called her record company boss and begged him to pull the LP so the extra track could be added. Speaking on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she said: "I remember my album was already distributed, and then this idea came up, and Wyclef and I met and we started working on this track.'I started working with Wyclef, and I knew I had a hit, so I called Donny Lenner, who was in charge at the time of [Epic Records], and I said, 'Donny, you have to pick up the albums from the stores,' and he's like, 'No way, these albums are already out there. "I'm like, 'You've got to believe me. You've got to trust me. You do that, we have a hit.' And he said, 'OK, so I'll listen to you. I'll listen to you on this one,' and he did it and we kind of had to repackage the albums, and it changed my story." The collaboration with Wyclef came right after Shakira had spookily had a dream about him. She said: "You know, the funniest thing is that I had a dream, the most random dream about Wyclef. It wasn't a sexual dream! It was just a dream. And then I woke up and my manager called me and said, 'Wyclef wants to work with you.' " Meanwhile, Shakira is proud to have sold out 11 shows in Mexico City and have the number one tour in the world for the second month in a row and she thinks its a special experience for fans. She said: 'It's incredible. I've been working on this tour for a year, preparing every single detail, from the visuals to the music. I've put together my biggest set list. I'm singing some of my classic songs, from 'Hips Don't Lie' to 'Whenever, Whatever' to the most recent ones. 'And it's a pretty huge production. It's a huge effort to tour with this production around Latin America. It's probably the biggest production that's ever traveled Latin America. It weighs like 93 tons. The screen is huge and it's 145 people traveling… "So when you show up and you see so many people dancing and singing and crying and getting emotional. It's a party, but people really, really connect with this music. It's been like the soundtrack of their lives, for many of my fans.'

Andre 3000 Carries Piano on His Back at 2025 Met Gala & Drops New Piano Album at the Same Time

Leave it to André 3000 to get the Met Gala red carpet buzzing and do some album promo at the same time. On Monday night (May 5), the Outkast legend showed up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute fundraiser with a baby grand piano strapped to his back, and at the same time, he surprise-dropped his latest instrumental album, called 7 piano sketches. More from Billboard Met Gala 2025: Best Photos From the Red Carpet 'The Blues Brothers' Return in First-Ever Graphic Novel See Madonna, Chappell Roan, Charli xcx & Lorde Squeeze In for Epic Met Gala Selfie The album was released at 8 p.m. ET via Epic Records, shortly after André arrived on the carpet wearing his piano look by Burberry, in collaboration with benji bixby and styled by Law Roach. (This marked the debut for benji bixby, which is the latest incarnation of André's late-'00s line Benjamin Bixby.) André's Met Gala look mimics the cover art of the new album. In a press release, André said the original title for the project was ''The Best Worst Rap Album In History' and here is an excerpt from the original liner notes: 'It's jokingly the worst rap album in history because there are no lyrics on it at all. It's the best because it's the free-est emotionally and best I've felt personally. It's the best because it's like a palette cleanser for me.'' 7 piano sketches is the follow-up to another instrumental project from André, the 2023 flute album New Blue Sun, which was nominated for album of the year at the 2025 Grammys, along with two other nods for the work. In November, André will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside bandmate Big Boi as part of Outkast. Listen to the new album and see André's full piano-inspired look below.
