General Motors makes surprising announcement about the price of its electric vehicles: 'We feel good'

Inside EVs reported that General Motors is not planning to raise prices due to the current administration's tariff policies. "We now expect pricing to be relatively consistent for the remainder of the year." GM CFO Paul Jacobson stated, according to the report. This announcement is surprising. Several of GM's EVs are assembled in Mexico, so the company is bracing for a huge cost impact in the billions of dollars. However, according to the Inside EVs report, GM is currently planning to hold steady on consumer pricing through the rest of the year. The article cites that the Equinox EV is currently the most affordable EV in the U.S. and that GM credits its Mexico build location for keeping costs so low. The low price, coupled with the vehicle's 300-plus mile range, has made Chevrolet the fastest-growing EV brand in the country. GM said it is expecting a $4 billion to $5 billion impact based on the current tariff policy, affecting imports from Korea, Mexico, and Canada. It plans to offset some of the costs with "self-help initiatives" and increased U.S. production of battery components, according to the report. Switching from a gas-powered vehicle to an EV has environmental and financial benefits. EVs do not produce air pollution that contributes to the warming of the planet, so it is a more eco-friendly transportation choice. EV owners can say goodbye to rising, fluctuating gas prices, saving money over time. Some EV skeptics cite the negative environmental effects that are a result of the pollution created during the battery manufacturing and charging process. While there is an environmental impact, the process is getting cleaner over time and has minimal negative effects in comparison to the 16.5 billion tons of fuel required for powering traditional gas vehicles. Roughly 30 million tons of minerals are dug up annually for the more affordable energy transition to EVs, and these minerals can often be reused, further reducing the environmental impact. Jacobson is confident that GM's wide EV lineup – from the $35,000 Equinox EV to the $130,000 Cadillac Escalade IQ – will help the company maintain pricing. "We feel good about where pricing is versus where we started the year, so we've assumed things remain constant from here," Jacobson said, according to Inside EVs. Chevy Launches a Killer 2025 Equinox EV Lease Offer

If you have been thinking about getting into the EV world, but don't want to make a long commitment by financing one, this aggressive lease deal is a great opportunity to get into the world of electrified motoring. The Equinox EV is available for $289 per month for 24 months with $3,399 due at signing. This deal is an ultra-low-mileage offer with an allotment of 20,000 miles per year. The lease price is based on an Equinox EV 2WD LT with an MSRP of $34,995. It should be noted that there is a charge of 25 cents per mile if the vehicle is returned with more than 20,000 miles. However, you can choose to purchase the vehicle at lease end for an agreed-upon price before signing the lease. This is a national lease deal, so it should be the same regardless of your location. To be sure, check your local pricing here. If you live on the West Coast, you can get a sweeter deal for $299 per month (for 24 months) with just $2,739 due at signing. For the Dallas area, you can get the same spec Equinox EV for $289 a month with $2,399 due at signing. In the upper Midwest area, it costs $319 per month with $3,299 due at signing. Finally, in Manhattan, look for the same model, but at a lower monthly payment of $289 per month with $2,399 due at signing. Since the Chevrolet Bolt is on hiatus, the Equinox EV has taken its place as the brand's entry-level electric offering. Although it shares the same name as its gas-powered counterpart, the two vehicles are different. The base Equinox EV features a single electric motor that drives the front wheels and makes 220 horsepower. Higher trim levels feature a dual-motor setup that delivers 300 horsepower, but the additional drive and power come at an added cost. The base trim level also offers the most driving range, with up to 319 miles on a single charge, per the EPA estimates. By spreading the $3,399 down payment for the national lease offer (approximately $141), the estimated payment for a $0 down lease comes out to around $430 per month. Note that this $0 down figure is an estimation. Official $0 down offers from Chevrolet may differ based on their specific calculation, credit approval, and potential money factor adjustments. Always obtain an official quote directly from Chevrolet. Lease offers can vary based on location and the vehicle configuration, and are subject to credit approval. The advertised payments exclude the local taxes, title and registration fees, and any other potential fees. 5 Manufacturer Incentives That Could Save Car Buyers Thousands as Trump Tariffs Loom

If you've been thinking about buying a new car, now might be the time to stop window shopping and start test driving. With former President Donald Trump imposing a 25% tariff on cars and car parts that were imported into the United States, automakers are scrambling to move inventory before things get more expensive. That means potential savings for buyers right now through limited-time manufacturer incentives. Discover More: Try This: Here are five deals and discounts car manufacturers may be offering now that could help you beat the potential tariff price hikes. Car prices have already been sky-high for the last couple of years, but some manufacturers are finally cutting prices to keep things moving. For example, as President Trump's new 25% tariff on all foreign auto imports takes effect, Ford is offering an employee-pricing plan, known as the A Plan, to shoppers on most of its 2024 and 2025 models through Jun. 2. Several automakers are rolling out interest-free financing offers for well-qualified buyers, which can lead to thousands in savings over the life of a loan. For example, General Motors is offering zero-percent APR for 72 months on popular models like the Equinox EV, Blazer EV or Silverado EV. That's six years of payments with zero interest, which could save you a good chunk of change if you're planning to finance your next car. Trending Now: If you're driving an older car, now might be the perfect time to cash in. Many manufacturers and dealers are offering extra incentives for trade-ins, sometimes adding up to $2,000 or more on top of your vehicle's market value. And even if your car isn't in perfect shape, some dealerships will still offer guaranteed minimums for trade-ins. Loyalty incentives, which reward customers for sticking with the same brand, and conquest incentives, which encourage customers to switch from a competitor, are being used more aggressively to secure sales. These programs can save you anywhere from $500 to $2,000 on your purchase or lease. For example, Honda is offering loyalty bonuses of up to $1,000 on many of its CR-V and Accord models, and BMW is offering drivers of EVs and plug-in hybrids from competitive brands like Tesla and Mercedes a $1,000 conquest bonus if they switch to an i5, i7 or iX EV. Some manufacturers are extending lease deals with lower monthly payments, reduced due-at-signing costs, and more flexible terms. And many brands like Toyota and Subaru are promoting 24- to 36-month leases with monthly payments under $300, even on SUVs. For example, Toyota is offering a lease on the Corolla Hybrid for $279 per month for 36 months with $3,999 due at signing, and the Subaru Outback is available at $299 per month for 36 months with $3,049 due upfront. These deals are worth considering if you're not ready to commit to a long-term purchase while the auto market remains shaky. Plus, leasing now could help you avoid potential sticker shock if tariffs push prices higher down the road.
