Mushroom hunter finds ‘several' human bones on neighbor's land, Ohio cops say
A man discovered human remains while foraging for mushrooms on his neighbor's property, Ohio authorities say.
The Clermont County Sheriff's Office said the man had received permission from his neighbor to search for mushrooms on her Washington Township land when he uncovered the remains on April 19.
It was the property owner, the sheriff's office said, who reported the discovery. She said her neighbor found 'several bones,' believing them to be human.
The land where the remains were found features a 'rural, back road' and 'heavily wooded areas,' WCPO reported.
The next day, 20 members of the EquuSearch Midwest Team coordinated with deputies in a 'comprehensive search of the area.' No other discoveries were announced.
'It's not every day that you come across another person that's laying out in the woods, and it's traumatizing, you know, even if you're a trained professional,' David Rader, director of the Equusearch team, told WKRC.
The bones will be taken to the Hamilton County Coroner's Office for identification, the sheriff's office said.
An investigation is ongoing, authorities said in a news release.
'Everyone worked thoroughly and put their hearts into it as we always do,' EquuSearch Midwest said in a Facebook post. 'Prayers for the family and friends of the missing person.'
Washington Township is about a 45-mile drive northeast from Cincinnati.
