Kota Kinabalu: Five men and two women were charged with criminal conspiracy where they were alleged to be engaged in cheating by offering loans through phone call, which actually did not exist. They were Mohd Kamal Jalali, 32, Abdul Zaini Salun, 32, Edgar Quisol, 38, Hasmir Han Abdul Ghazir, 19, Iskandar Harun, 32, Eriana Faizal, 27, and Yuni Ordanza Eduardo, 18. All of them pleaded not guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, to the charge against them on Wednesday. The seven are accused of involving in the criminal conspiracy in which they agreed among themselves to commit an act that was against the law by offering non-existent loans via phone call. They allegedly committed the offence at 11.40am on May 2, this year at a unit of condominium in Kingfisher Inanam, Jalan Kionsom Inanam, here. They were charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 120B(1) for criminal conspiracy, and faced an imprisonment for up to 10 years and a fine, if found guilty. The court set June 18 this year for pre-trial case management and Sept 29 and 30, and Oct 1-3 this year for trial. They were released on bail of RM15,000 in two local sureties except for Eriana and Yuni who did not have any documents. Hasmir was ordered to pay RM5,000 deposit for the bail while the rest paid RM8,000 deposit. The court also imposed additional conditions, namely report to the nearest police station twice a month. Eriana and Yuni were ordered remanded further pending the disposal of their case. The court was informed that the prosecution would be calling about 13 witnesses during the hearing. Counsel Nigel Neong Kaning represented Abdul Zaini while the rest were defended by counsel Luke Ressa Balang. Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugenie A.
