Weekend things to do: Celebrate Arbor Day, books and Black culture
Plants, music and books star in Tampa Bay's lineup of events this weekend. 🌱 Commemorate Arbor Day with the 39th annual Green Thumb Festival in St. Petersburg. Activities include a plant sale, educational programs and workshops. 9am-4pm Saturday and Sunday at Walter Fuller Park. The event is free, but registration is required to participate in workshops. 🎶 Celebrate Black culture and groove to musicians including Eric Darius and Brick featuring Jimmy Brown at the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Music Fest. Gates open at noon Saturday and Sunday at Curtis Hixon Park. Find ticket options here. 📚 Tap into your inner reading nerd at the inaugural Tarpon Springs Book Festival featuring meet-and-greets with authors, panel discussions and, of course, a book sale. 10am-4pm Saturday on Court Street in downtown Tarpon. The event is free, with the option to register here. 🌀 Add your hurricane story to Florida Humanities' oral history project at Echoes of the Land: Hurricanes, History and Storytelling. The event will also include tours of two Tocobaga burial mounds, which legend says protect the region from hurricanes.
