VPD traffic stop leads to arrest and gun seizure
VALDOSTA, Ga. (WSAV) – A traffic stop by the Valdosta Police Department (VPD) has led to a narcotics arrest and the seizure of guns.
On May 14, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., members of the VPD Crime Suppression Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 500 block of East Rogers Street. While speaking with the driver, Eric Emerson Rice, 23, officers observed evidence indicative of the presence of narcotics. As Rice was exiting the vehicle, officers observed a Draco AK-47 style pistol at his feet.
Officers secured Rice and the firearm. Inside the vehicle, officers located another pistol that was within Rice's reach, along with over 480 grams of marijuana. Tools and currency that are indicative of narcotics sales were also located in the vehicle.
Rice was transported to the Lowndes County Jail. He has been charged with:
• Felony Possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute
• Felony Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
• Felony Possession of drug-related items
