A Stanislaus man turned himself in after a shooting in Turlock, police say

A Delhi man was arrested on Thursday after he turned himself in to police for his alleged involvement in a shooting, according to the Turlock Police Department. Eric Martinez, 25, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, child endangerment, felon in possession of a weapon, felon in possession of ammunition and evading a police officer. His bail amount was set at $1.3 million. On May 6 around 9:30 p.m., TPD officers went to the 500 block of Angelus Street for reports of a 'suspicious person attempting to force entry into a residence while yelling profanities,' according to a TPD Facebook post. While the officers were on their way, dispatch had gotten updated information. The person had allegedly fired several shots and wounded a woman. When officers arrived to the home, they found a woman with a single gunshot wound in her abdomen. Her injuries were determined to be non-life threatening but she was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the post. Officers tried to stop a vehicle fleeing the area with a suspect inside who they believed was involved in the shooting, but lost sight of it during a pursuit. Witnesses identified the fleeing suspect as Martinez. Detectives and a TPD SWAT Team executed a search warrant at Martinez's residence in Delhi and collected evidence related to the case, according to the post. TPD's Facebook post stated that Martinez and the shooting victim knew each other. A TPD spokesperson told the Sacramento-based television station KCRA-3 that Martinez knew the home he was allegedly trying to enter and that a small child was in the home, which lead to the child endangerment charge. Two days later, Martinez turned himself in at the Turlock Public Safety Facility. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail. The investigation is ongoing and TPD asks anyone with additional information to contact Detective Urban at 209-668-6571.

Merced County man turns himself in for Turlock shooting

TURLOCK — A Merced County man turned himself in for a shooting that happened earlier this week in Turlock, police said Thursday. Delhi resident Eric Martinez, 25, is accused of trying to force his way into a home on Angelus Street on the morning of May 6, the Turlock Police Department said. Multiple people were inside the residence, including a woman who knew Martinez. As officers were heading to the home upon receiving the initial report of Martinez trying to enter the residence, Turlock police said multiple calls were made to dispatchers reporting that shots had been fired. Officers arrived to find the woman had been shot in the abdomen. She was taken to an area hospital and is expected to recover. A vehicle believed to be connected to the Angelus Street incident was spotted by officers around the same time. Turlock police said the officers attempted to pursue it but eventually lost sight of it. Investigators were able to identify the suspect as Martinez through various witness accounts. Turlock detectives and SWAT obtained a search warrant for Martinez's residence and located evidence they said connected him to the Angelus Street shooting. Martinez turned himself in to authorities at the Turlock Public Safety Center late Thursday morning and was later booked into the Stanislaus County Jail. He faces two counts of attempted murder, one count of child endangerment, one count of evading police and weapons charges, police said. The second attempted murder charge is due to there being more than one person in the home at the time of the shooting.
