Erie leaders discuss CRIZ at annual Knowledge Breakfast

Local leaders, developers and entrepreneurs gathered to get more information about Erie's city revitalization and improvement zone, better known as 'CRIZ.' The Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership hosted its fourth Knowledge Breakfast. Erie Mayor, Sen. Laughlin say CRIZ could bring reliable revenue to the City of Erie Speakers broke down the mechanics of what the CRIZ is and developers discussed how they see it as a tool that can transform the community. The vice president said that while they expect to get $15 million a year, the state still has to approve of these projects. Grow Erie hosts open house to show off years of work at Savocchio Park 'It has to check the boxes with the state so what it means and what i think everyone heard is, everyone is welcome to talk to the criz about getting a project funded however they need to understand the rules and regs and they probably need to get after it right now,' said Jake Rouch, vice president of economic development for the Erie Regional Chamber. A beloved Erie hot dog company is in the running for Coolest Thing Made in PA. The competition started out with 64 contestants and now stands at 16 as public voting resumes Wednesday at noon. Drivers encounter spring potholes after winter weather left behind dozens of hazards The president of Smith's Provision Company Sara Kallner said it was a surprise to find out the hot dog company was in the running to begin with upon initial discovery from the Pennsylvania chamber. Kallner says she didn't give the competition much thought until voting began last week. She said the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership as well as the Manufacturers Association pushed behind the company in the competition. Erie Habitat for Humanity, Erie Insurance partner up to build two new homes 'We are very grateful for the community support we're humbled by the nomination and we are so indebted to the Erie community we feel very very lucky and priveledged to manufacture in Erie where we have such a supportive community of not just Smith's but so many other wonderful local products that comes out of Erie,' she said.
