EPD says man crashed into parked car 4x legal limit

HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – An Evansville man is facing charges after police say he drove into a parked car 'highly intoxicated'. According to EPD, an officer responded to a property damage crash in the 1300 block of E. Indiana Street at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Officers reportedly found a Hispanic male driver slumped over the wheel of a tan car and was met with a strong odor of alcohol. EPD says over a dozen beer cans was on the floorboards and seats. The driver was identified as 27-year-old Erik Alberto Pedro Ruiz. EPD states Ruiz refused to answer any questions, speak to officers or take any tests. Ruiz only spoke Spanish, so a translator was used, and through the translator, Ruiz claimed he was not driving as a friend of his was, but he did not know where he went. Two women that witnessed the incident claimed through similar counts that Ruiz was going west unable to maintain his lane and almost hit one of them. Ruiz reportedly drifted to the north side of the street before hitting the parked car. EPD says Ruiz had red/watery eyes, a fixed gaze and smelled heavily of alcohol. EPD also says Ruiz told the translate he had consumed eight beers. A PBT reading reportedly came in at .277, and at the hospital, Ruiz reportedly fell asleep 'within minutes' and didn't wake up. EPD says a blood draw showed a level of .325. Ruiz was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. ‘That's what I get for trying to watch regular porn:' Shafter man admits to having links to child porn on his phone

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — When told a link containing child pornography was found on his phone, Erik Ruiz became distraught. 'That's what I get for trying to watch regular porn,' said Ruiz, adding that he was going to kill himself, according to newly-released police reports. The Shafter man and convicted sex offender asked to see an officer's gun. The officer refused, and asked why he wanted it. Ruiz responded that 'his life is over anyways,' the reports say. Ruiz has pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing child porn and is due back in court next week. Shafter police on March 5 were notified by a Secret Service analyst that a link to a video containing child porn had been found on Ruiz's phone, the reports say. The analyst conducted a download of the phone after receiving it from a parole agent who'd taken it from Ruiz in another case. Authorities then executed a search warrant March 21 at Ruiz's home. Another phone was seized. DOJ investigating California universities over affirmative action Ruiz said the phone belonged to his father but he also used it. An officer asked if there was anything on the device that shouldn't be there. 'Well I clicked on links on there. There might be,' Ruiz said. 'F—!' He gave conflicting statements, at first saying he didn't click on the links and had no idea how much child porn they contained, according to the documents. Later he said he'd access the links and if a video contained children he'd skip it. Ruiz asked an officer how many years he could face in prison. He worried over whether he'd be judge more harshly because of his status as a register sex offender, the reports say. An Xbox and hard drive were seized from Ruiz's bedroom for analysis.
