Karur: Angry passengers on Tuesday got into an argument with staff at Karur railway station after the Erode-Trichy passenger train was partially cancelled and halted halfway due to track maintenance work near Pettavaithalai.
Sources said the passengers, who alleged they were not notified in advance, confronted staff after the train did not proceed beyond Karur at 11am, an hour later than the estimated time of arrival (ETA). A railway official said a prior notification was issued.. "Around 8.30 pm on Monday, a notification was issued from Trichy, and another followed late at night from Salem," he said. Another train travelling in the opposite direction from Trichy to Palakkad was also partially cancelled, and instead started from Karur, he added.
However, passengers blamed the authorities for issuing the notifications too late and accused station staff of inaction. They argued that they could have made alternate arrangements had they been informed at least by the time they boarded the train at Erode around 8 am. The passengers subsequently agreed to take the next available train, the Palakkad-Trichy train, at noon.
