Flames Prospect Basha's Medicine Hat Suffer Defeat To London In Memorial Cup Final

Advertisement The 19-year-old forward put up passes and created scoring chances, but none could be finished into the back of the net. He tried to get something going during his shift in Medicine Hat's first and most promising-looking power play, but that too faltered. The Calgary native will end his Memorial Cup campaign with one assist. Two days ago, the Knights knocked out fellow Flames prospect Etienne Morin and the QMJHL champions Moncton Wildcats. It was reported from Logan Gordon that Flames assistant GM Brad Pascall plans on having Morin on the Flames' AHL affiliate team, the Wranglers next season. London Knights return to Memorial Cup final with 5-2 win over Moncton Wildcats
RIMOUSKI - The London Knights are going back to the Memorial Cup final. Blake Montgomery scored the winner 3:35 into the third period to lift the Knights past the Moncton Wildcats 5-2 in the tournament's semifinal Friday. London will take on the Medicine Hat Tigers in Sunday's battle for the top prize in Canadian junior hockey. Denver Barkey — with an assist — Landon Sim and Jesse Nurmi also scored, while Austin Elliott made 21 saves for the Knights, who lost 4-3 to the Saginaw Spirit in last year's final. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW Easton Cowan had an empty-net goal and added an assist, and Jacob Julien provided two helpers. The Knights fell short of clinching a spot in this year's championship game earlier in the tournament with a 3-1 loss to the Tigers in their round-robin finale. London has lost twice consecutively only once in its past 120 games — including playoffs and Memorial Cups — dating back to March 1, 2024. It's a fifth Memorial Cup final appearance for the Ontario Hockey League champions. Only the Peterborough Petes and Kitchener Rangers have more with six apiece. Caleb Desnoyers had a goal and an assist while Dyllan Gill also scored for Moncton. Mathis Rousseau stopped 32 shots. Flames Prospect Morin Dazzles in Memorial Cup Debut Despite Moncton Loss
Calgary prospect Etienne Morin put on a show despite his Moncton Wildcats being defeated 3-2 in OT by the OHL champions London Knights on Saturday evening. Morin opened the scoring for the QMJHL champions when he skated to the point and sniped a wrister into the back of the net 6:59 into the game, breaking his stick in the process and leveling the game 1-1. The Quebec native made his presence felt more than just on the stats box. He was important in the first penalty-kill making a poke check on London's Sam Dickinson. In the second Moncton power play, while he didn't score any points, he got his stick in the passing lane of London's Denver Barkley that would've certainly led to a goal during a 2v2 short-handed rush. In a twist, it was actually Morin's teammate Dyllan Gill who would later score on the power play and tie the game 2-2. He later broke his stick again while using it to block a shot of the Knights' Sam O'Reilly, severely weakening the shot and allowing his goalie Mathis Rousseau to make the save with 5:07 left in regulation. Ultimately, the Wildcats fell in overtime 3-2 as O'Reilly scored his second goal 4:23 into the fourth. Morin and Moncton will continue their quest for the Memorial Cup when they face fellow Flames prospect Andrew Basha and the WHL champions Medicine Hat Tigers on Monday at 7 pm ET/ 4 pm PT.
