'You have to front up every time there's a challenge at Man Utd'
Former Manchester United defender John O'Shea believes Andre Onana will still get the chance to show "what a quality keeper he can be" in the remaining weeks of the season. Onana was at fault for both goals conceded in his side's 2-2 draw with Lyon in the Europa League on performance came a day after the former Ajax man was labelled "one of the worst goalkeepers in the club's history" by Lyon midfielder Nemanja Matic, who spent five seasons at Old Trafford between 2017-2022. "The chance will be there for Andre to show what a quality keeper he can be," O'Shea told BBC NI. "Players are going to have little mistakes now and again, but let's see what happens in the next game."You have to front up every time there's a challenge at Manchester United, you have to show your qualities then."United travel to Newcastle United on Sunday (16:30 BST), with their only hope of qualifying for next season's Champions League being to win the Europa host Lyon at Old Trafford in the second leg of their quarter-final on Thursday (20:00 BST)."I'm sure the Manchester United fanbase probably have a bit of frustration at the minute, but they could potentially be in a European final in a couple of weeks' time with a bit of luck," added O'Shea, who is currently assistant coach with Republic of Ireland."Manchester United, without a doubt, will be challenging for trophies again in the future, but it's going to take a bit of time, it's going to take a bit of patience."

Everything Spurs do is seen as negative
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou says he is battling a "negative agenda" against the club where even good days are seen from a "glass half-empty" are a lowly 14th after 31 games in the Premier League as they toil in an injury-hit season, and under-pressure Postecoglou says he detects an outside view that he is "gone anyway" even if they win the Europa face Eintracht Frankfurt in their European quarter-final on competition offers Spurs their final hope of silverware this campaign as Postecoglou, 59, looks to maintain his record of "always winning" trophies in his second season at a beat Southampton 3-1 on Sunday, but the post-match narrative was around on-loan Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel taking a stoppage-time penalty rather than letting Brennan Johnson attempt to complete a hat-trick."I just think we're in that position now where even the good stuff we do is going to be turned into a glass half-empty rhetoric," said Postecoglou."The one slight against this club is that it hasn't been a winner. The winners' mentality in the last minute is to score. We scored and somehow, in this alternate universe, everything Tottenham does is negative." Postecoglou joined Tottenham in June 2023 after winning two successive league titles with Celtic in Scotland, achieving a domestic treble in the 2022-23 led Tottenham to fifth place in the Premier League last season, as their wait continued for a first major trophy since winning the League Cup in Australian Postecoglou is aware that even ending that drought with a European triumph may not be enough to convince some observers he is the right person to manage the club beyond this season."I just think you can't win the argument of convincing people. Even if we win [the Europa League], I am gone anyway. That's just the general sentiment of the people," he said."If you try to use that as a motivation, you are not going to win anyway. It's got to be something more in it for us."For us, what's most important is that we have been through a tough time but we are still in a position to make an impact."

'They deserve a trophy'
Former Newcastle midfielder Keith Gillespie hopes players can turn the "hurt" of two years ago into "history" when they take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Magpies' last domestic trophy was the FA Cup in 1955, while the club's last major silverware came in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969, a competition that then had the guise of the Uefa Cup and is now the Europa have come close since, losing five domestic finals since the FA Cup win, including in the same competition two years ago to Manchester who was part of the Newcastle team who finished second in the Premier League in 1995-96, told BBC Radio Newcastle: "We had the final a couple of years ago where we probably just didn't turn up on that day and that might stand us in good stead for this game."A lot of these players who actually played two years ago will have been hurt on that day and it's not nice to lose a cup final and you remember those things. So, hopefully we'll turn up on the day and you know get that elusive trophy."It's always been mentioned [missing out on trophies] because it's such a long time. A club of that stature shouldn't really be going that long without winning a trophy."I know there's been other finals. There's been FA Cup finals in the 90s as well. That is something that does play on your mind. It'll be great for these players to be part of history, bringing a trophy back to St. James' for the first time in a long time."I remember when we actually came second, back in 95-96, you would have thought we actually won the league just from the celebrations that day. If we win the final [on Sunday], I'm sure they'll be celebrating for days, probably weeks."They deserve a trophy. In the past 20-30 years there's been ups and downs, relegations, cup finals, but the fans always stick by you. They're the best fans in the country by far. It will be a great occasion."Listen to the full interview on BBC Sounds
