Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji met on Monday with Jörgen Lindström, Sweden's chargé d'affaires in Baghdad, to explore steps toward restoring the embassy's operations. The meeting was also attended by Anders Wibary, head of the European Union Advisory Mission in Iraq. According to a statement from the Iraqi National Security Advisor's office, the discussions focused on enhancing Iraq-Sweden relations across various sectors to serve mutual interests. The talks also covered regional security developments, with particular attention to the ongoing situation in Syria. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to reopening the Swedish embassy in Baghdad, emphasizing the importance of strengthening friendship and partnership between the two countries.

Iraq, Sweden discuss efforts to reopen the Swedish embassy in Baghdad

Baghdad-INA National Security Adviser, Qasim Al-Araji, discussed today, Monday, with the Chargé d'Affairs of the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad, Jorgen Lindström, the reopening of the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad, in order to enhance the principles of friendship and partnership between the two countries. A statement issued by the media office of the National Security Adviser, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "National Security Adviser, Qasim Al-Araji, received in his office, the Chargé d'Affairs of the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad, Jorgen Lindström, in the presence of the Head of the European Union Advisory Mission in Iraq, Anders Wiberg." The statement added that "the meeting discussed ways to enhance and develop cooperation and friendship relations between Iraq and the Kingdom of Sweden, in all fields, in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries." "Security developments were also discussed at the regional level in general and the Syrian arena in particular."
