Liverpool book medical for target as Arne Slot ready to approve £75m transfers

Liverpool have officially announced the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, but their summer transfer window activity is far from complete. The German international has joined in a £116million deal, yet Liverpool's spending spree doesn't seem to be winding down despite securing the services of the 22-year-old attacking midfield sensation, who was coveted by clubs across Europe before settling on a move to the Premier League champions. Arne Slot is set to welcome new players Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili to his squad, alongside Wirtz, having previously only seen Federico Chiesa join ahead of his inaugural season. The initial weeks of the transfer window have also witnessed departures, with Caoimhin Kelleher moving to Brentford and Trent Alexander-Arnold transferring to Real Madrid, while Vitezslav Jaros has been loaned out to Ajax. Liverpool's focus now shifts to Milos Kerkez, following an agreement with Bournemouth for the defender's transfer. This might signal the end of Andy Robertson's tenure, as he contemplates a move to Atletico Madrid, while Darwin Nunez is anticipated to depart as Liverpool scout for a new striker, and Jarell Quansah could soon find himself at Leverkusen in a £35m deal. Here's all the last transfer news from Anfield. If there were any doubts about Slot's impact at Liverpool, it extends beyond mere pitch-side instructions. Wirtz has disclosed that the Dutch manager played a crucial role in convincing him that Anfield was the right choice for his career progression. "The conversations were always really good," Wirtz revealed. "I can remember the first time [we met] he already showed me some scenes and how he wants to play, how I could fit in the team. "He was just telling me I'm a player he really wants to have in his team and I can bring the team a step forward, and I could just imagine it would be good to be in the team and to make it better. "I have to make my performances every week but I'm here for this." It's a mouthwatering prospect for Liverpool fans. Bournemouth's Kerkez is on the brink of a Liverpool switch, with a medical scheduled for Tuesday after the Reds struck a £40m deal with the Cherries, reports the Mirror. The Hungarian full-back is poised to join forces with fellow countryman Dominik Szoboszlai, as the move edges closer to completion. After weeks of haggling, Liverpool have managed to secure another signing, with personal terms already sorted for the 21-year-old ace. This marks the second occasion sporting director Richard Hughes has played a key role in a transfer involving Kerkez, having previously facilitated his move from AZ to Bournemouth for a cool £15.5m. Brighton are reportedly preparing a hefty £40m offer for Liverpool's Harvey Elliott come summer. The former Fulham whizzkid has expressed doubts over his Anfield future, seeking more game time and currently donning the England jersey at the European under-21 Championships. Elliott is reportedly Brighton's top target this summer, and the presence of James Milner on the south coast could potentially sway his decision. It's been suggested that Elliott rejected a move to Nottingham Forest due to worries about the club's style of play, but the 22-year-old holds no such concerns regarding Brighton. Slot is rumoured to be open to letting Elliott go and is reportedly uncertain about the midfielder who made 45 appearances last season but had difficulty securing starting positions.

Liverpool medical booked as Arne Slot expected to sanction £40m transfer exit

Liverpool have made a quick start in the transfer window and signed Florian Wirtz in a record deal to continue their summer of spending with more expected in the coming weeks Liverpool have finally confirmed the arrival of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, but the summer transfer window is far from over for the Reds. The Germany international has arrived in a £116million deal but the Merseyside club's spending does not look to be over. Already Arne Slot is set to have new players in Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili at his disposal in addition to Wirtz, having only seen Federico Chiesa arrive ahead of his first season. The first weeks of the transfer window have also seen departures in the shape of Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford and Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, while Vitezslav Jaros joined Ajax on loan. ‌ Liverpool's attention is now set to turn to Milos Kerkez after a deal was agreed with Bournemouth for the defender. Could that spell the end of Andy Robertson's time at Anfield as he mulls a move to Atletico Madrid? ‌ The Scotland international is not the only star with an uncertain future. Darwin Nunez is expected to leave as the Reds eye a new striker and Jarell Quansah could soon end up at Leverkusen in a £35m deal. Mirror Football takes a look at the latest transfer news and rumours around Anfield. Wirtz's reveals Slot impact If anyone was in doubt over Arne Slot's impact at Liverpool, it is greater than simply instructions on the pitch. Florian Wirtz has revealed the Dutchman played a key role in persuading him that Anfield was the correct destination for his future. 'The conversations were always really good,' said Wirtz. 'I can remember the first time [we met] he already showed me some scenes and how he wants to play, how I could fit in the team. 'He was just telling me I'm a player he really wants to have in his team and I can bring the team a step forward, and I could just imagine it would be good to be in the team and to make it better. I have to make my performances every week but I'm here for this.' ‌ Milos Kerkez medical Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez is set to begin his Liverpool medical on Tuesday, after the Reds agreed a £40m deal with the Cherries. The full-back, 21, has long been linked with making the move to join his international team-mate Dominik Szoboszlai, and now it looks set to happen. Weeks of negotiating have seen Liverpool get another deal over the line and personal terms are already agreed for the Hungary international. It marks the second time Richard Hughes has brokered a deal for Kerkez after he helped seal the deal when Bournemouth signed him from AZ for around £15.5m. Elliott exit Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is set to be subject of a £40m bid from Brighton this summer, per reports. The ex-Fulham star has admitted his future is uncertain as he looks for more playing time, and is currently representing England in the European under-21 Championships. ‌ Elliott is said to be the Seagulls' key summer target, and James Milner's presence on the south coast could yet prove persuasive. It has been claimed Elliott turned down a move to Nottingham Forest due to concerns over the club's style of play but the 22-year-old has no such reservations about Brighton. Slot is reported to be unlikely to stand in Elliott's way over a move and is said to be undecided on the midfielder who made 45 appearances last term but struggled to earn starts. Jack Grealish gets Man City transfer demand after England star's brutal axe

Jack Grealish is set to be left out of Manchester City's squad for the Club World Cup and England boss Thomas Tuchel has sent the former Aston Villa star a strong message Jack Grealish has been urged to quit Manchester City to get his England career back on track. England boss Thomas Tuchel says that he has spoken to Grealish and just wants to see him get regular game time again. Grealish is facing an uncertain future at City after losing his place and he is unlikely to go to the Club World Cup. ‌ Tuchel said: 'I love Jack for his personality and of course his talent. He is a very unique player who can handle big pressure on the field. ‌ 'He is never shy of pressure. It's the opposite. He grows in big matches but he's a player who needs minutes and minutes and minutes and simply does not get them for a very long time. That's basically everything. Nothing has changed. 'I have maybe the same information as you that City are thinking of not taking him to the Club World Cup. So he needs to make himself available by playing. I think it's one of his key strengths. 'To go every three days and get better and better with every minute that he has in his legs. That's what is missing, nothing else. I have spoken to him after the first international camp and very shortly after the FA Cup final but not since then.' Liam Delap has left Tuchel 'disappointed' after putting club before country. Chelsea 's new £30m signing will play at the Club World Cup rather than represent England in the European under-21 Championships. Tuchel admits that is a blow from a player they like as a long term prospect. Clubs have priority over the under-21s tournament. ‌ Tuchel said: 'It would have been nice for him and for the FA for him to play a big tournament. But that's nowadays football. There are some rules and its club first. 'It would have been nice to do the 21s and would have been nice to see him lead the U21s as the main striker. But for him personally and the next big challenge – and we will be monitor him closely – will be to see if he can impose himself on the Chelsea squad, grab his place and make himself available for us.'

Man City star's Club World Cup absence speaks volumes as Man Utd eye deal

Manchester City could see a number of exits this summer as Pep Guardiola attempts to take his side back to the top and one midfielder will not head to the Club World Cup Manchester City star James McAtee has been named in England's squad for the European under-21 Championships as speculation over his future continues. The 22-year-old ace has opted to play in the international tournament over travelling to the United States to play in the Club World Cup. The midfielder, who started three Premier League games for City in 2024/25, is said to have been given the option of which competition to participate in. Earlier reports indicated McAtee was set to be snubbed from City's squad for the trip across the Atlantic however. ‌ The young star, who has previously spent two seasons on loan at Sheffield United, has just one year remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium bringing his future into focus. And the decision to see him play for and captain England this month appears telling. ‌ City have already agreed a deal with AC Milan for Tijjani Reijnders and want to secure a move for Lyon and France forward Rayan Cherki in time for the Club World Cup. Such moves would seem to push McAtee further down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola. And there would be no shortage of suitors should he officially be on the market. McAtee drew interest from the Bundesliga in January and those clubs could still lie in wait. Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt, Red Bull Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund have all expressed interest, per reports. Manchester United meanwhile head up a host of Premier League clubs who have asked to be kept informed of McAtee's situation. West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Wolves, Everton, Leeds United, Fulham and Spurs all hold an interest in the City academy star. AC Milan too admire the Three Lions youth international. McAtee is not alone in missing out on the Club World Cup, with Jack Grealish also not set to travel to the US. The former Aston Villa star is set to be made available in a cut-price deal. ‌ Unlike with Grealish, Guardiola has made it clear he would like to retain the services of McAtee however. He said in April: "For the age I would like him to stay. I understand, the players want more minutes I understand that. "I would like him to stay, he's an Academy player, he knows the patterns, he's a lovely person, a lovely guy. He trains really good, plays in different positions. I like him but with the squad, it's how we finish and we will see."
