RBA ‘caught a lot of people off guard' with comments after rate cut

Independent analyst Evan Lucas has examined the 'bigger change' in the Reserve Bank of Australia's view on the economic downside following its decision to cut interest rates this week. US Treasury Secretary has ‘driven a change in tack' when it comes to tariffs

Independent analyst Evan Lucas claims US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has been the one over the last four to five weeks who has 'driven a change in tack' when it comes to tariffs. This comes as the White House is considering cutting steep tariffs on Chinese imports in a bid to de-escalate trade tensions with Beijing. According to the Wall Street Journal, tariffs could come down to between 50 and 65 per cent under a tiered approach – however, the US President has yet to make a final decision. 'There's still a long way to go – it's a good step,' Mr Lucas told Sky News Australia.
