Ex-Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich threatened with legal action over £2.3bn proceeds from sale of club
Abramovich was forced to sell in 2022 due to his links with Putin SALE ROW Ex-Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich threatened with legal action over £2.3bn proceeds from sale of club Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FORMER Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is being threatened with legal action over the £2.3billion proceeds from his sale of the club. The cash was supposed to go on humanitarian projects in Ukraine. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up But British government officials and Abramovich have failed to reach an agreement. The money has been sitting in a bank account since the 58-year-old was forced to sell in 2022 due to his links with tyrant Vladimir Putin. The Government has lost patience after three years of talks with the Russian oligarch failed to resolve the situation. In a joint statement, Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: 'The Government is determined to see the proceeds from the sale of Chelsea Football Club reach humanitarian causes in Ukraine, following Russia's illegal full-scale invasion. 'We are deeply frustrated that it has not been possible to reach agreement on this with Mr Abramovich so far. 'While the door for negotiations will remain open, we are fully prepared to pursue this through the courts if required, to ensure people suffering in Ukraine can benefit from these proceeds as soon as possible.' Pressure was growing on the Government for some time to take a harder line on Abramovich. Charities like Save The Children and senior political figures like Lord Foulkes, a former chairman of Scottish club Hearts, urged first the previous Conservative administration and then the current Labour Government to find a way to end the deadlock. 1 Roman Abramovich is being threatened with legal action over the £2.3billion proceeds from his sale of Chelsea Credit: AP UK government could approve the sale of Chelsea but Abramovich can't personally profit, says MP Chris Philp Unlock even more award-winning articles as The Sun launches brand new membership programme - Sun Club.

Chelsea sent £25m transfer demand immediately after Conference League triumph
Chelsea have a lot of decisions to make when it comes the the make-up of their squad particularly over Jadon Sancho's future with his loan from Manchester United set to expire next month Chelsea have been told to push through a deal for Jadon Sancho after their Conference League success. The Blues lifted the title on Wednesday evening as they overcame Spanish side Real Betis 4-1. Sancho, 25, came off the bench to score in Chelsea 's victory. It was his second European goal this term, the on-loan Manchester United man also providing five assists in Conference League action. Chelsea now face a decision over his future. As it stands, they are set to pay £25m to sign him permanently from United, albeit they can pay a £5m penalty fee to back out of that deal. Ex-Chelsea star Joe Cole has given his verdict and claimed that Sancho should be kept at Stamford Bridge. Speaking on TNT Sports, he said: 'I think Jadon is a really great player and I think he's done well. He's been rotated in and out a bit but I want to see Jadon playing. You want a player like that in your squad. It will come down to a financial decision I imagine but I really like him.' In all, Sancho has scored five goals and provided ten assists across the campaign for Chelsea. Asked if the winger had contributed enough to earn a permanent move, Cole replied: 'Yes I do. 'This is a kid who went to Dortmund and was a superstar as a kid. It wasn't working at Man United but he's done well, he's got his career back on track at Chelsea. I think there's more to come from him as well.' Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has already given a clue into Sancho's long-term future. The Italian suggested that there is still a decision set to be made when it comes to him, and a whole host of other players. He said: 'I don't know. I said that when in the last weeks you asked me about different players, I always said the same. And the reason why is because it's the truth. 'It's not the moment we have tomorrow, final. Then in 24 hours, 48 hours, we're going to start to talk about the future. But at this moment, there is not any thought or any decision made on Jadon or any different players.' Sancho appears unlikely to have a future at Man United should Ruben Amorim remain at the club. He still has just over a year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford.
