5 arrested following armed robbery at KZN chain store
A co-ordinated, rapid response from SAPS and private security teams led to the arrest of five suspects following an armed robbery at the Exact store on Victoria Street in Dundee's CBD on Saturday.
Northern Natal News reports that the drama unfolded when seven armed suspects, travelling in a white Suzuki Ertiga, stormed the shop and fled the scene with cellular devices, clothing and cash.
Various private security companies and SAPS units responded to the call.
'Two suspects, both aged 30, were traced and arrested in the Uitval area of Ekuvukeni. Authorities also recovered stolen cellphones and clothing,' says Umzinyathi SAPS spokesperson Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana.
Further intelligence revealed that the getaway vehicle was heading towards Pietermaritzburg.
Responding quickly, members of the SAPS Pietermaritzburg K9 unit, flying squad, Balid, Magma and Fidelity Security intercepted the vehicle and three suspects were arrested.
Investigations are ongoing as police work to locate and arrest the two suspects who got away.
