Heartbroken parents pay tribute after girl, 11, knocked down by van Elemei has been described as 'our baby girl, our life and soul' Elemie Wainwright, who died in a fatal collision last week Heartbroken parents have begged for help to get answers after their 11-year-old daughter was killed when she was hit by a van. Elemie Wainwright was struck by a white Ford Transit van whilst walking along High Street, in Sheffield, on June 12. The school girl was taken to hospital by ambulance but sadly despite doctor's best efforts she died a short time later. Elemie's family say they want answers to how and why their beloved little girl was killed. They said: 'Our beautiful baby girl, a couple of days ago our hearts shattered into a million pieces. Our baby girl, our life and soul, with the biggest smile, the biggest heart, you were the kindest, most sweetest, most beautiful baby girl.' 'We have no words right now, but we beg that if anyone knows any information, no matter how insignificant you think it is please come forward. Any information, no matter how small, may be the missing piece to the answers we need. 'As parents, we need answers for our baby girl. Please, look at her photo, look at her smile, it's the least our baby deserves.' Article continues below In the wake of her death, Elemie's dance school, Excel Dance Academy, also issued a moving tribute. A spokesperson for the school said: 'We are completely heartbroken by the passing of our beloved student, Elemie. 'As a team and dance academy, we are still processing this awful tragedy. She was such a special girl and has brought nothing but light and kindness to all at Excel. "Elemie was full of love, had the most caring nature and lit up every room she walked into - she was truly one of a kind." Article continues below Officers from South Yorkshire continue to support Elemie's family and work to investigate the circumstances that led to Elemie's death. A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and traffic offences. He has been released on police bail at this time. Officers continue to appeal to witnesses, with anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward to the police.
