Here's everything you need to know about one of the most anticipated new movies of 2025, F1 F1 is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated new blockbusters for 2025, hitting the big screen in just over a week. The high-octane drama teams Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski with Hollywood star Brad Pitt for a thrilling take on one of the world's most popular sports. ‌ Featuring an all-star cast, from Oscar-winners to TV legends and rising talents, F1 is gearing up to be the first unmissable cinema release this summer. ‌ With the film almost at the starting block, let's lay down the essentials of everything you need to know before it comes out. Who stars in F1? Silver screen icon Brad Pitt is leading the film as retired Formula One driver Sonny Hayes. Following a devastating crash in the 1990s, Sonny is forced to bow out and compete elsewhere, eventually living a nomadic lifestyle when we meet him in 2025. However, he's obliged to come out of his self-imposed exile when his close friend Ruben Cervantes (played by Javier Bardem) picks him to mentor Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP) rookie, Joshua 'Noah' Pearce (Damson Idris). In addition to this trio, BAFTA-winning Irish star Kerry Condon portrays APXGP technical director Kate McKenna. ‌ Some recognisable Brits from hit TV series also have major roles, including Outlander and The Crown's Tobias Menzies as Peter Banning, a member of APXGP's board of directors. Also in supporting roles are Killing Eve's Kim Bodnia as Kaspar Molinski, Heartstopper's Joseph Balderrama as Rico Fazio, comedy star Samson Kayo as Cashman and Ted Lasso's Sarah Niles as Bernadette Pearce, Joshua's mother. ‌ Sex Education and Bridgerton star Simone Ashley also has an undisclosed role. Casualty star Abdul Salis, Callie Cooke of Henpocalypse!, Skins' Will Merrick and Layne Harper also appear, as well as Mission: Impossible's Shea Whigham as Chip Hart. Cameos from real F1 drivers An impressive array of real drivers will make cameos in the film, including racing legends Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. ‌ The film features appearances from all 10 F1 teams and their drivers portraying themselves. The full list includes: Sergio Pérez (Mexico, Red Bull), Charles Leclerc (Monaco, Ferrari), Carlos Sainz Jr. (Spain, Ferrari), George Russell (UK, Mercedes), Esteban Ocon (France, Alpine), Pierre Gasly (France, Alpine), Lando Norris (UK, McLaren), Oscar Piastri (Australia, McLaren), Valtteri Bottas (Finland, Alfa Romeo), Zhou Guanyu (China, Alfa Romeo), Fernando Alonso, (Spain, Aston Martin), Lance Stroll (Canada, Aston Martin), Kevin Magnussen (Denmark, Haas), Nico Hülkenberg (Germany, Haas), Daniel Ricciardo (Australia, AlphaTauri), Yuki Tsunoda (Japan, AlphaTauri), Nyck de Vries (Netherlands, AlphaTauri), Liam Lawson (New Zealand, (AlphaTauri), Alexander Albon (Thailand, Williams) and Logan Sargeant (USA, Williams). ‌ When will F1 be released? However, in contrast to a lot of Hollywood releases, the film will actually be released slightly earlier for international audiences. Film fans in the UK will be able to see F1 on the big screen, including IMAX, from Wednesday, 25th June. A co-production between Warner Bros and Apple Original Films, the movie is also expected to be released on Apple TV+ at some point this year, although a streaming premiere has yet to be announced.
