QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — A group of boaters are recovering after being narrowly saved from their sinking vessel ahead of Memorial Day weekend. Three boaters were sailing in the East River near the Whitestone Bridge last Tuesday when they suddenly hit an object and began sinking, according to the FDNY. More Local News Firefighters quickly responded to the mayday call and found the three people clinging to the sinking boat for life, one of which had a head injury, fire officials say. Emergency response teams had to make three separate trips, fighting against strong currents, to bring each person back to shore, according to a social media post from the FDNY. One person even had to be pulled from the water by FDNY divers.
