Top French players could feature against All Blacks as agreement with Top 14 reached
France could yet field some of their stars against the All Blacks after agreement was reached with the Top 14 to make several top players available. Fabien Galthie 's Six Nations champions had been due to travel on the summer tour of New Zealand with a virtual second-string squad, as has become custom for the side over the last few years. France face the All Blacks in a three Tests from 5 July in a series that begins just one week after the Top 14 final concludes the domestic season. With the league possessing real heft in negotiations, it appeared that the play-offs and concern over player workload would leave Galthie to take mostly fringe figures on tour, yet the France boss has been given a boost. While a 42-man squad will be mostly comprised of players who were little used or did not feature in the Six Nations, a maximum of five players from the two finalist clubs will be permitted to be included provided they have not had too much playing time across the campaign. Jean-Marc Lhermet, vice-president of the French rugby federation (FFR), said: "This agreement perfectly illustrates the shared desire of the FFR and the LNR to combine sporting performance and player protection. 'By maintaining the balance between the demands of the calendars and the necessary management of players' playing time, we are giving the French team the means to prepare for this tour to New Zealand with ambition and serenity. This innovative system demonstrates our ability to work together, in the interest of French rugby and its players." Toulouse currently top the Top 14 table with Investec Champions Cup winners Bordeaux-Begles in second. It is unlikely that wings Louis Bielle-Biarrey or Damian Penaud will be permitted to travel after featuring heavily this season, while Toulouse fly half Romain Ntamack is reportedly expected to undergo surgery on a knee injury. Antoine Dupont remains sidelined after tearing his ACL during the Six Nations win over Ireland. France took an inexperienced squad to Argentina and Uruguay last July, splitting their two-match series 1-1 with the Pumas. A France XV will also face an equivalent England selection at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham this summer, with a 28-player squad comprised of those not involved in the Top 14 semi-finals to feature in the fixture on Saturday 21 June.

PROVISION Study Which Met Its Primary Endpoint Now Demonstrates Similar Clinical Outcomes for FFRangio and FFR
PROVISION Study, Prospective Randomized Trial Evaluating Clinical Outcomes of FFRangio Versus FFR Guidance, Demonstrates Similar MACE Rates at One Year PARIS, May 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Today at the annual EuroPCR conference taking place in Paris, France, Dr. Toru Tanigaki of Gifu Heart Center in Gifu, Japan presented the one-year results of the physician-initiated PROVISION1 Study. At TCT 2024, investigators shared that the PROVISION Study met its non-inferiority primary endpoint and revealed economic and resource utilization advantages for the FFRangio technology over traditional invasive FFR. The PROVISION Study is the first Japanese prospective randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing the outcomes of an angio-based technology compared to invasive wire-based physiology and enrolled 401 patients across 13 centers in Japan. Patients with intermediate coronary lesions (30-90% diameter stenosis) were randomized 1:1 to either the wire-based FFR arm, in which the treatment decision was determined based on FFR values obtained using an invasive pressure wire, or the FFRangio arm, in which the treatment decision was based on FFRangio values. Based on the functional evaluations, either revascularization (PCI) and optimal medical management (OMT) or OMT alone were selected, and patients were followed clinically for at least one year. During a Hotline / Late-Breaking Trials session at EuroPCR 2025, Dr. Tanigaki presented the rates of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) at one year for patients treated according to FFRangio guidance versus FFR guidance. MACE was defined as a composite of death from any cause, nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI) or unplanned revascularization. MACE at one year was 9.9% for the FFRangio arm versus 12.6% for the FFR arm [HR 0.80 (0.42 to 1.51), p = 0.489]. MACE excluding periprocedural MI was 3.5% for the FFRangio arm versus 6.0% for the FFR arm [HR 0.58 (0.13 to 1.42), p = 0.167]. The rates of all-cause death, myocardial infarction and target vessel revascularization at one year were all similar in the FFRangio arm and FFR arm. The clash between Antoine Dupont's champions and one of their main rivals for the title takes place on February 5, most likely at the Stade de France pending the conclusion of negotiations with the French Rugby Federation (FFR). The schedule for the 2026 Six Nations is the first to feature only one fallow week rather than the customary two. In another significant break with tradition, the Six Nations starts on a Thursday evening rather than the customary Friday or Saturday slots to avoid a clash with the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics on February 6. England finished runners-up this year and their bid to go one better will begin against Wales at Allianz Stadium on February 7. They face a Valentine's Day appointment with Scotland at Murrayfield, collide with Ireland at home on February 21 and finish with away trips to Italy and France, with 'Le Crunch' closing out Super Saturday on March 14. All Six Nations matches will be shown free to air after a new rights deal lasting until 2029 was struck with ITV and BBC in March.
