DPSCD, other school districts closing Tuesday, possibly Wednesday due to frigid forecast
Numerous school districts are canceling all classes on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday because of the frigid arctic blast set to bring near zero and even sub-zero temperatures to metro Detroit.
Detroit Public Schools Community District is among those calling off school Tuesday, along with all after school activities, sports practices and home games. The district says it will make a decision Tuesday on whether it will cancel school and activities for Wednesday as well.
"More than 50% of our students walk to and from school or require school or city bussing, which would leave them exposed to dangerous temperatures in the early morning and afternoon," the district's website says.
Other districts that have announced school closures include, but aren't limited to:
West Bloomfield School District (both Tuesday and Wednesday)
Oak Park Schools (Tuesday and Wednesday)
Grosse Pointe Public Schools (Tuesday and Wednesday)
Birmingham Public Schools (Tuesday and Wednesday)
