Fox Host Says ‘Fake News' Trump to Blame for Media Distrust
Fox News host Bret Baier admits that President Donald Trump's decade-long 'Fake News' crusade is to blame for plummeting trust in the mainstream media. Baier, 54, said the president 'broke the system' and decimated whatever trust remained in the media before he took over the Republican Party in 2016. 'Maybe that was part of his MO, what he wanted to do,' Baier told Politico's Deep Dive podcast on Friday. The host said that those in the media are partly to blame, too. 'Middle America didn't trust what they were getting from a lot of media,' he said, which opened the door for Trump to capitalize on those emotions. The attacks have had a notable impact. A Gallup poll released just before the 2024 election found that only around 30 percent of Americans have a 'great deal' of trust in the media to report fairly and accurately. That figure was 72 percent in 1976, by comparison, and was at 40 percent in 2015, just before MAGA went mainstream. Baier is his network's chief political anchor and a longtime host on Special Report. He appears to be one of Trump's favorite pundits and is an unabashed supporter of the president himself. Still, Fox News is not always spared from the president's wrath. Most recently, Trump attacked the network over unfavorable poll figures regarding his approval rating and Americans' view of his tariffs. His adviser, Stephen Miller, outright called on Fox to fire its pollster. Trump said the same in a Truth Social tirade aboard Air Force One. 'FAKE POLLS FROM FAKE NEWS ORGANIZATIONS… should be investigated for ELECTION FRAUD,' he posted, upset that a Fox News poll assessed him a meagre 38 percent overall approval rating. While that's no 'MSDNC' or 'Fake News CNN,' as Trump has used to describe the left-leaning networks, it is the latest evidence that no news organization is safe from Trump's attacks in MAGA 2.0. The White House, despite Trump hiring a large number of former Fox News journalists to non-media roles in his administration, has said it is employing a messaging strategy to bypass the media entirely and reach the eyes and ears of Americans directly.

Trump Comes to Putin's Defense in Attack on Media ‘Degenerates'
President Donald Trump took aim at the 'Fake News' again Friday and called journalists 'sick degenerates' for suggesting that his special envoy Steve Witkoff waited eight to nine hours to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin. Several outlets reported that Witkoff left Moscow Friday without a ceasefire deal after Putin rejected Trump's proposal. Trump has said that he's working to get Russia and Ukraine to end the war and he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky outlined a proposal earlier this week. Although Trump claimed that the discussions were 'productive,' Putin voiced doubts on Thursday, leaving Ukrainians to worry that the Kremlin wasn't going to agree to permanent peace. Those reporting on the story looked at flight tracking data and Russian reports to discover that Putin met with Witkoff late Thursday even though the envoy arrived hours before. Photos prove that Witkoff's motorcade arrived around midday, but he did not end up fully delivering the proposal until that night. Trump, however, took to Truth Social to call the reporting dishonest; he said there was 'no wait whatsoever.' The president conceded that there were in fact meetings with 'other Representatives of Russia' that 'took some time,' but that they were very 'productive.' 'From there, things went quickly and efficiently, and all signs seem to be, hopefully, very good!' he wrote. 'In conclusion, there was no nine-hour wait, or any wait at all!' He added that journalists 'made up' the story 'to try and DEMEAN, because they are sick degenerates, that have to start reporting the News correctly.' The accusation follows Trump's controversial move to determine which journalists will make up the White House press pool and to ban legacy outlets like the Associated Press (AP) for refusing to comply with his orders. The AP was specifically barred after journalists continued to call the southern body of water the 'Gulf of Mexico' instead of 'Gulf of America,' as Trump demanded. New media outlets are invited instead in order to spread 'President Trump's message,' according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Trump has launched a significant assault on news outlets since he first took office in 2016. His criticisms have left many journalists and free press organizations concerned about how his policies may violate the Constitution. He additionally expanded his attacks Friday by insinuating that some press actions should be deemed 'illegal.' 'I believe that CNN and MS-DNC, who literally write 97.6% bad about me, are political arms of the Democrat [sic] party and in my opinion, they're really corrupt and they're illegal, what do they do is illegal,' Trump said during a speech at the Department of Justice. He added that CNN and MSNBC are corrupt and no different than a 'highly paid political operative.' The Trump administration also put government-employed journalists at Voice of America (VoA) on administrative leave after eliminating the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) on Thursday.

Trump says MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace, Rachel Maddow should resign for comments on 13-year-old cancer survivor
President Trump called for MSNBC hosts Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow to resign over their comments about the 13-year-old brain cancer survivor featured in his address to Congress this week. While taking questions in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump was asked whether Democrats are "out of touch" with the American people after various snap polls showed a majority of viewers approved of his speech. "I thought it was very embarrassing for the Democrats, what happened the other night," Trump said. "Even CNN 'Fake News' said that. They came out and said it. And worse than CNN is 'MS-DNC,' which is the worst. And the good news is very few people watch them anymore. They've lost such credibility." He then took aim at the liberal hosts over their comments about Trump surprising DJ Daniel, the young aspiring police officer, by making him an honorary Secret Service agent. "Frankly, what Nicolle Wallace said - I've never been a fan of hers, and she's not very talented, but I will tell you what she said the other day about the young man is disgraceful. She should be forced to resign," Trump said. "And Rachel Maddow should be forced to resign. Nobody watches her anyway. I don't know - it's not possible they pay her as much money as I hear. But certainly she's lost all credibility, both of them. But what they said the other day, they should be forced to resign about that young person, who is suffering greatly," he added. MSNBC did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment and Wallace did not respond during her Thursday show. Wallace was slammed for remarks during MSNBC's post-address coverage inexplicably linking the young boy to Jan. 6 and the suicide of Capitol Police officers. "But I think this was a lesson in finding one thing that you let yourself feel," Wallace said Tuesday night. "And I let myself feel joy about DJ, and I hope he's alive for another, you know, 95 years, and I hope he lives the life he wants to live. He wants to be a cop. He knows what he wants to do, and maybe when you have childhood cancer, that crystallizes for you." "I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer," she continued. "But I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump's supporters, and if he does, I hope he isn't one of the six who loses his life to suicide, and I hope he isn't one who has to testify against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then lived to see Donald Trump pardon those people." Maddow called Daniel's inclusion in Trump's speech "disgusting," accusing the president of making a "spectacle" of the young boy's illness as if he had anything to do with his recovery. "This was in the midst of him praising [the Department of Government Efficiency]," Maddow said. "The DOGE cuts, among other things, have cut off funding for ongoing research into pediatric cancer." The comments ignited sharp condemnation across social media, even making their way to the White House. "Last night, MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace disgustingly looped in a 13-year-old boy with brain cancer into an attack on the president over Jan. 6," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said during Wednesday's press briefing. "It's sad and frankly pathetic that Democrats and liberals in the legacy media continue to allow their hatred for the president to override their love for our country," Leavitt later added.
