Rapper Young Scooter Dead at 39 on His Birthday

Atlanta rapper Young Scooter, who was signed to Future and Waka Flocka Flame's record labels, died March 28 on his 39th birthday. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the rapper's identity and death to multiple outlets, who reported the hip-hop star died at Atlanta's Grady Marcus Trauma Center. The cause of death of Young Scooter—real name Kenneth Edward Bailey—remains undetermined, pending an autopsy. Atlanta Police Department Lt. Andrew Smith, a homicide commander, said at a press conference that day that the 39-year-old, who was not identified by name, died after suffering a leg injury while fleeing police who had responded to a call about a dispute involving a weapon. "It was advised in the call remarks that shots were fired and a female was dragged back into the location," he said. "Once officers arrived, they knocked on the door. A male opened the door and immediately shut the door on the officers." Young Scooter—a father of five, per the Shade Room—had hours before his death reposted on his Instagram Stories scores of birthday messages from loved ones, colleagues and fans. Following his passing, his son Kenneth Bailey Jr., shared a tribute on social media. "Damn my best friend gone," he wrote on his Instagram Stories. "Happy Birthday too. One later returned inside, while the other jumped two fences as he was fleeing. "When officers located him on the other side of the fence, he appeared to have suffered an injury to his leg. Officers rendered aid, and he was transported to Gray Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased," he said, adding, "The injury that was sustained was not via the officers on the scene. It was while the male was fleeing." Smith said it appeared the man sustained "some type of fracture or injuries to the leg," which was bleeding. He also said no shots were fired during the incident, which remains under investigation, and that officers were not able to locate a woman as described in the 911 call. Elon Musk Sells X, Formerly Twitter, for $33 Billion to His AI Startup

Elon Musk—who bought Twitter in 2022 and changed the social media platform's name to X the following year—revealed that his artificial intelligence startup xAI has acquired the brand in a lucrative, all-stock deal. 'The combination values xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion ($45B less $12B debt),' Musk wrote in a March 28 post to X. 'Since its founding two years ago, xAI has rapidly become one of the leading AI labs in the world, building models and data centers at unprecedented speed and scale.' He continued, 'X is the digital town square where more than 600M active users go to find the real-time source of ground truth and, in the last two years, has been transformed into one of the most efficient companies in the world, positioning it to deliver scalable future growth.' More than one year after Grok—an AI-powered chatbot created by xAI that's similar to ChatGPT—was launched on X, Elon said it was officially time to 'take the step to combine the data, models, compute, distribution and talent.' 'The combined company will deliver smarter, more meaningful experiences to billions of people while staying true to our core mission of seeking truth and advancing knowledge. This will allow us to build a platform that doesn't just reflect the world but actively accelerates human progress.' The Tesla CEO ended his message thanking the teams from both companies for their hard work and dedication, noting, 'This is just the beginning.' After Musk's announcement, CEO of X Linda Yaccarino echoed his outlook, reposting his update with her own words, writing, "The future could not be brighter." As for how X users felt about the business deal? There were chirps all around. 'I'm so curious as to why X folded into xAI and not the other way around,' one user wrote. 'It seems like X has the broader base as a platform and that xAI would literally just be a medium/small feature on X." Another simply commented, 'Wow. Didn't see this coming.'
