Shane van Gisbergen earns pole position for NASCAR All-Star Open
Qualifying on All-Star Race weekend is unique within NASCAR. Drivers will complete a full lap at speed before diving onto pit road for a four-tire pit stop in the middle of the second lap. At the end of that lap, the entire time it took from start to finish of the run is each driver's qualifying time — and yes, there are penalties for things such as loose wheels and speeding in the pit lane. The first drivers on track were the 18 selected for the All-Star Open, which is the race to make the main event. The top-two finishers will advance into the All-Star Race with a third joining them as the Fan Vote recipient. Advertisement Well, one of the drivers currently ranked in the top five for the Fan Vote -- Shane van Gisbergen -- went out and put his No. 88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet on pole position. SVG appeared to gain most of his time while braking into the pit lane, but having a fast pit crew helped as well. "Yeah, I think we finally got all the things right," said van Gisbergen, who had never even seen this track before today. "Qualifying has been a weakness. My lap was pretty good, coming in was good, pit stop guys were insane so really good for them. Thanks to WeatherTech, thanks to the Trackhouse pit crew, and we're up front for tomorrow. "I've never started at the front for an oval so I don't know what to do there. I have to learn the rules and see how we go." In the Cup Series, the New Zealander's best start on an oval is 17th, which came at Talladega Superspeedway last year. He will be joined on the front row by Spire Motorsports' Carson Hocevar, who is also one of the top five drivers in the Fan Vote right now. Advertisement Noah Gragson qualified third, Michael McDowell fourth, and Ryan Preece fifth. Zane Smith, Justin Haley, John Hunter Nemechek, Ty Gibbs, and Ty Dillon filled out the remainder of the top ten. Read Also: B.J. Phish fans want the Rock Hall to return the band's hot dog
Not everyone is celebrating the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's recently announced class of 2025. Catch up quick: Earlier this week, the museum revealed this year's inductees, who will be celebrated at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Nov. 8. The list includes Outkast, the White Stripes, Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, Bad Company, Chubby Checker and Joe Cocker. The other side: Among the acts nominated that didn't make the cut was the prolific jam band Phish, who won the year's Fan Vote. Phish is the second act — along with Dave Matthews Band in 2020 — to win the annual poll and not earn induction that year. What they're saying:"Phish is the only Fan Vote winner not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. An all-time snub," one fan wrote on X. "Few bands [have been] as successful and culturally relevant for so long. It's always been political; you know it, I know it, the critics know it." Between the lines: A Phish news Reddit page demands the Rock Hall return the band's 15-foot-long flying hot dog stage prop located on the museum's bottom floor. The band debuted the hot dog in 1994 and it's been hanging from the museum's ceiling since 2000 and is one of the first things visitors see upon entry.

Phish come out on top as Oasis only score 99,500 in final Fan Vote for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Phish have come out on top in the final Fan Vote for entry into the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The veteran rock band secured a whopping 330,000 ballots. Bad Company landed second place, receiving 281,000 of the votes. In third place is Billy Idol (260,500 votes), followed by Cyndi Lauper (237,000) and Joe Cocker (234,000). Despite the huge demand for their first tour in 16 years, Britpop legends Oasis only managed 99,500 ballots. Even pop diva Mariah Carey was ahead of them, with 138,000 ballots. Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher previously made it clear he doesn't care if the band are inducted after they earned their second nod. Following the unveiling of the longlist in February, the outspoken rock'n'roll star lashed out at the museum and institution, but confessed he'd probably still attend if the 'Morning Glory' rockers were to be chosen for induction and would act like it was the "best thing ever". He reacted on X: "RNR hall of fame is for W******.' Liam also wrote: 'F*** the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS LG (sic)" When one fan asked what he's going to do if he wins, the singer replied: 'Obv go and say it's the best thing EVER (sic)" It's not the first time Liam has mocked the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, having previously declared he doesn't want to be a part of "anything that mentally disturbed". Speaking after Oasis were nominated in 2024, he The Sunday Times: 'As much as I love Mariah Carey and all that, I want to say: do me a favour and f*** off. 'It's like putting me in the rap hall of fame, and I don't want to be part of anything that mentally disturbed. Besides, I've done more for rock n' roll than half of them clowns on that board, so it's all a load of b*******.' Artists become eligible for nomination 25 years after the release of their first commercial recording. The Class of 2025 will be unveiled on Sunday's (27.04.25) episode of 'American Idol'. Final Fan Vote results: Phish – 330,000 Bad Company – 281,000 Billy Idol – 260,500 Cyndi Lauper – 237,000 Joe Cocker – 234,000 Soundgarden – 233,000 Chubby Checker – 203,000 The Black Crowes – 165,200 Mariah Carey – 138,000 Joy Division + New Order – 120,500 The White Stripes – 110,500 Outkast – 108,000 Oasis – 99,500 Mana – 34,500

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2025: Predicting who will be inducted
We're about two weeks away from finding out the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's class of 2025. Why it matters: This year's ballot of 14 nominees features some of the most prominent artists of the 21st century as well as overlooked legends hoping for one more chance in the spotlight. How it works: A pool of more than 1,200 journalists, music historians and current inductees vote for who should be inducted. The Rock Hall typically chooses to honor the top six to eight vote-getters. Considering previous voting trends, I did my best to predict which eight artists will be honored during a ceremony this fall in Los Angeles. Who I think gets in: Bad Company Billy Idol Cyndi Lauper Joe Cocker Mariah Carey Outkast Soundgarden Joy Division/New Order State of play: The first six acts in that list feel like solid bets given the industry support they've received and how the ballot lines up. Carey and Lauper are the only women nominated and Outkast is the only hip-hop act, which bodes well for their chances. Who I think's left out: Chubby Checker Maná Oasis Phish The White Stripes The Black Crowes The other side: You can rule out The Black Crowes, Maná and Phish. Their nominations came as a surprise. Phish will win the Fan Vote, but the annual poll doesn't guarantee induction, as Dave Matthews Band supporters learned in 2020. Friction point: The final two spots are closer to a coin flip. Oasis and The White Stripes could sneak in, but neither act seems to care much about induction. Voters could go for Chubby Checker. "The Twist" singer has waited longer than any other nominee, but he's also not the biggest name. I ultimately went with Soundgarden, which rock purists will get behind on a ballot that features fewer hard rock acts each year. The ballot also stacks up well for Joy Division/New Order, with an influence and impact above the rest of the pack.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame odds: 14 nominees' chances of induction
We're roughly six weeks away from finding who will comprise the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's class of 2025. Why it matters: Nominees continue to make their case for induction, a distinction that can earn much-needed exposure for acts far past their primes. Driving the news: Last week, Mariah Carey called upon fans to participate in the Rock Hall's annual Fan Vote. Elsewhere, Paul McCartney gave a ringing endorsement for the late Joe Cocker. 💭 Troy's thought bubble: I did my best to assess the chances for each of the 14 nominees, based on past ballots, what I'm hearing from voters and overall buzz for this year's class, from most to least likely: Joe Cocker Many ballots may have already been turned in, but voters still deciding will take note of McCartney's support for Cocker. It's huge praise for a candidate who was probably already on the verge of getting in. Odds: 85% Cyndi Lauper With only two female-led acts on the ballot, voters will want to support Lauper on her second try, similar to previous inductee Pat Benatar. Odds: 75% Outkast A hip-hop artist has earned induction each of the past five years and Outkast is the genre's lone nominee in 2025. Odds: 70% Mariah Carey The nominating committee gave Carey an ideal ballot. There's no Cher or Mary J. Blige to split votes this time. Odds: 66% Billy Idol Idol has been vocal about his nomination, and his performance honoring Ozzy Osbourne at last year's ceremony put him front of mind with voters. Odds: 60% Bad Company Bad Company could be this year's Foreigner — the only classic rock band for diehards to rally around. Odds: 55% Soundgarden The lot of 1990s bands feels less crowded this year, making Soundgarden a coin flip to make it on its third try. Odds: 50% Chubby Checker Checker isn't the biggest name on the ballot, but the fact he's waited longer than anyone in history to earn a nomination will earn him votes. Odds: 45% Joy Division/New Order As a two-time nominee, Joy Division/New Order's candidacy feels more in line with a band like Depeche Mode, which needed three nominations to get in, than The Cure, which needed two. Odds: 33% The White Stripes The White Stripes will eventually get in, but there isn't much urgency for the only act on this list that earned its breakthrough in the 21st century. Odds: 30% Oasis Buzz from the band's recent reunion helps, but the Gallagher brothers don't seem to care much about the Rock Hall. Odds: 25% Phish History says don't bet against the winner of the Fan Vote, which Phish is currently leading. However, this feels a lot like when the Dave Matthews Band won the poll in 2020 but failed to earn induction. Odds: 20% The Black Crowes If the 1990s rock vote comes down to The Black Crowes or Soundgarden, the latter has the edge. Odds: 10% Maná Maná's nomination was a head-scratcher. So, it's no surprise to see the Mexican band pulling up the rear in the Fan Vote. Odds: 3%
