Lottery player had a strategy before buying ticket — and it paid off in big way
A Michigan woman is celebrating a huge lottery win after she used a specific strategy to pick her winning ticket.
The 62-year-old won $500,000 on the Fantastic 5's instant game, according to a June 10 news release from the Michigan Lottery.
The woman bought the $5 ticket from a store in Lambertville but said she didn't pick the ticket at random.
'I look at the remaining prizes page on to see which games have top prizes that haven't been claimed and saw Fantastic 5's had all three top prizes left which is why I bought the ticket,' she told lottery officials.
The next morning, she scratched the ticket and saw she won the jackpot.
'When I saw I'd won $500,000, I think I turned green. It was awesome and my husband and I truly could not believe it,' she said, according to the lottery.
She told lottery officials she plans to pay bills and save the rest.
Lambertville is about a 40-mile drive south from Ann Arbor.
