Time to take a punt on final day - FPL tips & team of week

Right, what do you need from your Fantasy Premier League team on the final day? If you're in a close title race in your mini-league - especially if you are chasing a rival - then this is the dream scenario. There's no clear-cut captain and that means taking a punt on someone other than Mohamed Salah could be massively rewarded. There are normally plenty of goals on the final day so if you've got nothing much to play for, why not slap the armband on a big differential choice - such as Leandro Trossard or Evanilson in this week's team - and just have a bit of fun? This team of the week should give you some final-day ideas, but it could be a week to go with your gut, take a flyer on your captain and then sit back and hope for the best. Don't miss our FPL special week 38 Q&A with expert Pras, live on the BBC Sport website at 15:30 BST on Friday, 23 May. Jamie Vardy, on maybe his final FPL appearance, Jarrod Bowen and double Everton defence were the heroes. Boy, did the double Manchester City clean sheet wipeout in the 96th minute hurt! A total of 53 points, not awful and not great. Listen to the latest Fantasy 606 podcast on BBC Sounds. David Raya, Arsenal, keeper, £5.5m - Southampton (a) Worst attack in the league? Haven't scored in three games? Nothing to play for? Arsenal defence is an easy pick this week for clean sheet against bottom-placed Southampton. Jakub Kiwior, Arsenal, £4.9m - Southampton (a) See Raya above! Nikola Milenkovic, Nottingham Forest, £5.2m - Chelsea (h) If you're going for broke on the final day you want a defender with a goal in their locker. Ezri Konsa and Marc Cucurella owners got that luck in gameweek 37. Milenkovic has more goals than any other defender and Chelsea have only scored once in their past four games on the road. In a must-win match, I'd rather back Forest defence than Chelsea attack. Dan Burn, Newcastle, £4.5m - Everton (h) Another Milenkovic-style pick. Burn has two double-digit hauls in four games and Newcastle have kept three home clean sheets in a row. Milos Kerkez, Bournemouth, £5.2m - Leicester (h) Six assists this season for Kerkez - who has been linked with a move to Liverpool - and he is in the top 10 for final-third touches and crosses among defenders. Taking on a blunt Leicester attack with no Jamie Vardy... no-brainer selection. Bryan Mbeumo (captain), Brentford, £8.2m - Wolves (a) Mbeumo has six returns in his past five games and would have hauled more if not for a rare penalty miss last week. He takes on a Wolves side who have conceded seven goals in the previous three games. At this point, Mbeumo might be the most obvious FPL pick. He's been involved in 43% of his side's goals, so feels about as nailed on as you can be for at least some sort of return on Sunday. Jarrod Bowen (vice captain), West Ham, £7.9m - Ipswich (a) Bowen has 53 points in the past seven gameweeks - only Eberechi Eze has more with 57 - so you've got to roll with that kind of form and he's a solid shout for captain this week. Jacob Murphy, Newcastle, £5.2m - Everton (h) Since gameweek 14, Murphy has started every game for Newcastle and in that time only Mohamed Salah (77) has more points than his 76 at home. Murphy has five goals and six assists in that spell and, in a must-win game against Everton, you would hope he will be back on the right wing in a 4-4-2. That's where he has been most productive - and even more so if Alexander Isak is fit. Leandro Trossard, Arsenal, £6.7m - Southampton (a) Some sort of attacking Arsenal asset feels like a must against woeful Southampton. But predicting how the Gunners approach the game, with second place effectively wrapped up, is tough. Trossard has been Arsenal's top-scoring attacking asset this season and he has started the past seven games, with five returns. The Belgian also has four double-digit returns this season and you are looking for that kind of explosiveness for a one-week punt. Evanilson, Bournemouth, £5.8m - Leicester (h) The Brazilian has been unlucky this season - 66 shots in the box, 22 big chances, just 10 goals. His expected goals (xG) is 12.18. By contrast, Chris Wood has 12.61 xG and 20 goals! What I'm saying here is that Evanilson could have ended a decent season with even more points if he'd put away a few more of those big chances - such as when he hit the post at Manchester City on Tuesday. He has a juicy match-up against a poor defence on the final day and could easily get double digits. Erling Haaland, Manchester City, £14.9m - Fulham (a) Call me foolish for going back to Haaland, who has been very quiet since returning from injury, but Manchester City still need a point on Sunday to secure Champions League football. Fulham are decent at home, City probably need to score a couple to win and this is a pure gut-feel final-day pick - backing the old Haaland to return with a couple of goals. Kepa Arrizabalaga, Bournemouth, keeper, £4.6m - Leicester (h) Jorgen Strand Larsen, Wolves, striker, £5.2m - Brentford (h) Morgan Gibbs-White, Nottingham Forest, £6.5m - Chelsea (h) Conor Bradley, Liverpool, defender, £4.7m - Crystal Palace (h) Total team cost: £95m The team of the week is selected based on current FPL prices to fit within a £100m budget, as if you were playing a Free Hit. Need to save your season? Captain Haaland - FPL tips & team of week

Three games of the season to go and it's that time of year where some teams become unreliable. Cases in point being Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United, who all have a focus on Europe, and Liverpool with the Premier League title wrapped up. You want to use your precious remaining transfers on teams with something to play for - those chasing European spots. So this week's team of the week is heavy on Manchester City and Nottingham Forest - two clubs with a top-five spot, and Champions League football, in their sights. Don't miss our FPL special week 36 Q&A with expert Gianni Buttice, live on the BBC Sport website at 15:30 BST on Friday 9 May Kevin de Bruyne (11) and Jamie Vardy (9) led the way to an acceptable 56 points in week 36. Listen to the latest Fantasy 606 podcast on BBC Sounds. Matz Sels, Nottingham Forest, keeper, £5.2m - Leicester (h) This is one of the two standout fixtures of the week and hopefully you've got a Forest player or two in your side. No overthinking here - the top-scoring keeper in a defence that has kept 13 clean sheets. Yes, Leicester have improved in attack since their relegation was confirmed and Forest have also been wobbling recently, but they are the most likely team to keep a clean sheet. Neco Williams, Nottingham Forest, £4.6m - Leicester (h) I love a defensive double up and full-back Williams offers an attacking threat too. Has the most shots (37) and key passes (16) of any Forest defender this season - and he is the cheapest option on top of that. Josko Gvardiol, Manchester City, £6.4m - Southampton (a) City are the other side you'd expect to keep a clean sheet this week. In the spirit of 'not overthinking things', Gvardiol is one of the first names on the team sheet. His switch to centre-back recently has had no impact on his ability to earn bonus points and City have four clean sheets in their past six games. Ryan Sessegnon, Fulham, £4.2m - Everton (h) Sessegnon might be a minutes risk but given his price, this week's opponent and the fact he's a defender playing as an attacking midfielder, he's the kind of punt worth taking. Kevin de Bruyne, Manchester City, £9.5m - Southampton (a) De Bruyne has had two double digit hauls in the past four weeks. He's started the past five games, so worries about his fitness should not be an issue and the Belgian only has three league games left in his City career. If he's going out with a bang, this game against one of the worst teams in Premier League history is the perfect setting. Bryan Mbeumo (vice-captain), Brentford, £8.2m - Ipswich (a) If he is not in your side, I'd highly recommend targeting Mbeumo for the run-in. Brentford are chasing Europe and have three attractive fixtures against Ipswich, Fulham and Wolves. Mbeumo has 26 FPL returns this season and six double-digit hauls - so you are buying both the security of a likely return and the potential of a huge points score. And that is the kind of player you want to propel you up your mini leagues in an end-of-season charge. Alex Iwobi, Fulham, £5.6m - Everton (h) Iwobi has been on fire in the past five gameweeks with 30 FPL points (tied with Sessegnon for highest Fulham scorer). He's had more shots, goal involvements and big chances created than any other Fulham defender and faces an Everton side with one clean sheet in 10 matches. Yankuba Minteh, Brighton, £4.8m - Wolves (a) A bit of a flyer but Minteh is a fine FPL pick when he gets minutes on the pitch. The Gambian has started four of the past five games for Brighton and his 5.38 points per 90 minutes is the highest of any Seagulls midfielder this season. Brighton are another team chasing European qualification, so it makes sense to target their assets. Yoane Wissa, Brentford, £6.7m - Ipswich (a) Wissa is having an elite season that is going slightly under the radar. His 18 league goals have put him joint fifth in the scoring charts and he has four and one assist in his past four games. As mentioned with Mbeumo, Brentford have great fixtures too before the end of the campaign. Form plus fixtures = a strong FPL pick. Chris Wood, Nottingham Forest, £7.1m - Leicester (h) One goal in seven games might put you off Wood but, unlike Wissa, fixture wins over form here. Leicester have conceded 76 goals this season at an average of more than two per game. Wood has been involved in 42% of Forest's goals this season so if they score a couple he will likely return. Erling Haaland (captain), Manchester City, £14.8m - Southampton (a) If you are trying to make up points in FPL then why not take the ultimate gamble and captain Haaland? Will he start? That's not even guaranteed with the Norwegian returning from injury, but Pep Guardiola will want him match fit in time for the FA Cup final on 17 May. This is the last game before that. And if - IF - he does start then this is instantly a match with haul potential. Southampton's defence is the worst in the league, their season is over. In normal circumstances, Haaland would be the best captain pick this week. If you fancy a gamble, you have the approval to go for it. Alisson, Liverpool, keeper, £5.1m - Arsenal (h) Amad Diallo, Manchester United, midfielder, £5.1m - West Ham (h) Rayan Ait-Nouri, Wolves, defender £5.1m - Brighton (h) Calvin Bassey, Fulham, defender, £4.5m - Everton (h) Team total cost: £96.9m The team of the week is selected based on current FPL prices to fit within a £100m budget, as if you were playing a Free Hit. FPL special - recap of the best gameweek 35 tips with Holly Shand

Focus on the Fantasy 606 title race Alistair Bruce-Ball Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live Image source, Fantasy Premier League We're enjoying our closest title race ever on the Fantasy 606 podcast with Statman Dave just six points behind me at the top of the table. All of us are back to our 'normal' teams having played the Free Hit in gameweek 34 so it's about trying to make those couple of signings over the next four gameweeks that are going to make the difference. Dave has announced he's bringing Ollie Watkins into his team this week which makes a lot of sense given the injury to Marcus Rashford. I'm sticking with Alexander Isak in my front line so there's one point of difference between us and Dave is also a Kevin de Bruyne owner who turned a load of mini-leagues on their heads three seasons ago when he scored four goals against Wolves who he's up against tonight. The manager of our listeners' team, Tim, also went for Ollie Watkins this week and is giving him the armband for the home game against Fulham. The listeners' team is currently 56 points off top spot with the Bench Boost still to play although we now know there won't be any further double gameweeks this season to try and maximise that. If you want to come on the Fantasy 606 podcast to manage the listeners' team then please send us an email on fantasy606@

Sutton's predictions: Aston Villa v Newcastle

Newcastle are the Premier League's momentum monsters, especially since winning the Carabao Cup, but their excellent form goes back further than Aston Villa are also in great shape, on a run of four successive league wins, and although they lost the tie overall, they were sensational in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Paris comeback on the night, to win 3-2 after falling 2-0 down, took me by surprise but they really showed what they are made of. I think PSG will win this season's Champions League, but Villa pushed them all the is going to be a cracking game, and also a feisty one with what is at stake in the top-five race. Who or what decides it might come down to fine margins, and who makes the most of their chances, because both teams are going to get will score, whoever they play up top, although maybe they should take Marco Asensio off penalties. He missed two spot-kicks last weekend against Southampton after I told everyone to watch out for him on the Fantasy 606 pod, which sums up my FPL season and predicting ability in one fell could make an argument for both teams here, but I am going with Newcastle, because of how good they were when I watched them at St James' Park on Wednesday to beat Palace Barnes was electric, just unbelievably good down the left, and the same goes for Jacob Murphy on the other flank - his opening goal was absolutely amazing, because who shoots from there? With those two playing the way they are, Newcastle are going to keep on prediction: 1-2Read the full predictions and have your say here

How to navigate double gameweeks - FPL tips & team of week

Double gameweek season has arrived in Fantasy Premier League and it starts with a simple two-team one in gameweek means a lot of FPL players will have similar teams - or at least similar players who double - but there are still plenty of questions to I bench boost? Should I play the Triple Captain chip? And which Crystal Palace and Newcastle players are the best picks? Our team of the week should help you with a few of those dilemmas. Set your calendar reminders for Friday 11 April when expert FPL Heisenberg is a special guest on the BBC Sport website for a live FPL question and answer session at 14:30 BST. Bench Boost in gameweek 32? The next few weeks look like this:Gameweek 32 - double gameweek for Newcastle and Crystal PalaceGameweek 33 - double gameweek for Manchester City, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Crystal PalaceGameweek 34 - blank gameweek for Manchester City, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Crystal PalaceGameweek 35 - normal gameweekAnd we know the FA Cup final might bring more doubles in 36 and blanks in got a massive chance for big points, especially if you've kept a few of your chips back.A bench boost would work this week or next. It's obviously team dependant and I'd plan out your squad for both weeks and decide which one feels the most exciting. You're not going to get a full squad of players going twice in either week, so a lot will depend on your single gameweek Forest, Brighton and Chelsea players look good this gameweek 33, Liverpool visit Leicester and you could put in West Ham and Manchester United players against Southampton and Wolves you haven't yet used your wildcard, now could be the time to set you up for two double gameweeks. Should I play the FPL Triple Captain chip in week 32? Picking when you are going to play your Triple Captain chip might be a good way of setting your strategy for the rest of the season - and deciding when Bench Boost is played.I think there are three main choices.1. Newcastle's Alexander Isak this week - safe, high-upside, but lots of players will make the same decision so if you are chasing points look elsewhere.2. Arsenal's Bukayo Saka in week 33 - Ipswich away and Palace at home is juicy, Saka can easily put back-to-back hauls together. But will he start both games?3. Wait for week 36 - your hope is Manchester City get to the FA Cup final as one of their games in a potential double would be Southampton away. It's risky waiting this long but could well pay off. How did last week's FPL team do? Captain Isak did not pay off, with no goal contributions in a 3-0 Newcastle win. Saka and fellow Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli being benched also Jacob Murphy (16 points) and Liam Delap (8) saved the day for 47 to the latest Fantasy 606 podcast on BBC Sounds. Keeper and defence Matz Sels, Nottingham Forest, keeper, £5.1m - Everton (h)The top-scoring keeper, the second-most clean sheets in the league (13) and a home game against a hardly-prolific Everton don't need underlying statistics to back up this pick but here is one anyway - Everton's expected goals (xG) on the road (14.18) is lower than every other team, except Leicester and Southampton, who are both set for Williams, Nottingham Forest, £4.4m - Everton (h)Doubling up on a top FPL defence this week. You might look at the points total and think Nikola Milenkovic (£5.1m) is the best Forest asset, having scored four Williams is the underlying data pick. Since gameweek 25, Milenkovic has scored twice from four shots, two of which were on by contrast, leads the team with 10 shots, seven key passes, one big chance created and an xG of is a threat from corners, but Williams has more avenues to points from open Munoz, Crystal Palace, £5.2m - Man City and Newcastle (both a)If Munoz isn't in your team already then what have you been doing? He's more of a right winger than a defender, and only Manchester City's Josko Gvardiol has more shots in the box, goals and big chances as a double doesn't scream clean sheets, but Munoz doesn't need those!Kieran Trippier, Newcastle, £5.6m - Man Utd and Crystal Palace (both h)If you can afford him, Trippier is worth the punt as a Newcastle defender. Fellow full-back Tino Livramento hauled last week, but that was his first assist of the season. Trippier could be taking free-kicks and corners - he's been there and done it as an FPL legend so how about a trip down memory lane? Midfield Kaoru Mitoma, Brighton, £6.5m - Leicester (h)Backing a forward player against Leicester pays off almost every week and Mitoma is easily Brighton's most reliable most shots, shots in the box, on target, key passes, xG, goals - I could go Murphy had a haul from the flanks against the Foxes, now it is Mitoma's Salah, Liverpool, £13.8m - West Ham (h)It is now three scoreless games in the past four for Salah, but the question is 'what would you do with the money if you sold him?'.West Ham at home is a good fixture and Salah can play terribly and still get two returns in any game. So unless you are in a major budget crunch for double gameweek players just hang on to the Egyptian!Cole Palmer, Chelsea, £10.7m - Ipswich (h)I don't blame you if you've been scared off by Palmer's form and last week's benching, but this fixture is too enticing to ignore him on the bench against Brentford didn't exactly work out for manager Enzo Maresca so I'd expect him to play - and Ipswich have conceded more than two goals per a normal gameweek, Palmer would be a captaincy Murphy, Newcastle, £5.1m - Man Utd and Crystal Palace (both h)Anthony Gordon's recent injury makes the pick of a Newcastle midfielder for the double gameweek a simple guaranteed minutes, on form and the winger has 16 goal involvements (GI) this season, which works out at 0.79 GI per 90 minutes on the Eze (vice-captain), Crystal Palace, £6.8m - Man City and Newcastle (both a)Palace's double is not great but you have to take a punt and picking Eze over Ismaila Sarr (£5.7m) depends on how much you value underlying data - and what you take from has more FPL points this season and his 17 big chances is bettered by only five midfielders - two of them the pricey Salah and Eagles forward also has seven goals from an xG of 7.3, while Eze has two from an xG of 6.1 - so the more expensive Palace man is massively underperforming and perhaps 'due' a taken nearly double the shots on goal too, while Sarr's xG in the past two games is there's no correct choice here and budget might dictate who you choose. Strikers Alexander Isak (captain), Newcastle, £9.5m - Man Utd and Crystal Palace (both h)A simple choice for captain this week. Don't be put off by a relative dry patch of one goal in three has hit double figures seven times this season. That's the kind of potential you want and why the Swede is a major Triple Captain Mateta, Crystal Palace, £7.7m - Man City and Newcastle (both a)Another easy double gameweek choice. Scored a lovely goal last week, and was motoring before his recent head injury with eight goals in an eight-game if you watched Mateta in the win over Brighton, his finish oozed confidence and he looks ready to hit top gear. Subs bench Bart Verbruggen, Brighton, keeper, £4.5m - Leicester (h)Pervis Estupinan, Brighton, defender, £4.9m - Leicester (h)Jakub Kiwior, Arsenal, defender, £4.8m - Brentford (h)Iliman Ndiaye, Everton, striker, £5.2m - Nottingham Forest (a)Team total cost: £99.9mThe team of the week is selected based on current FPL prices to fit within a £100m budget, as if you were playing a Free Hit. Player to watch Mikel Merino, Arsenal, midfielder, £6.1mAre FPL players sleeping on the Spaniard? A midfielder playing out of position as a striker, two goals in his past three and 90 minutes in six straight double gameweek is going to be tricky to navigate as it looks like they are going through to the Champions League semi-finals. But Mikel Arteta can't rest every player and Merino has fresh legs after mostly featuring from the bench in the first half of the season. Team to target West Ham - Liverpool (a), Southampton (h), Brighton (a)That Southampton game jumps out in gameweek 33, especially for those considering a bench boost. Jarrod Bowen (£7.6m) is the standout pick, in Hammers could also have a double gameweek if Nottingham Forest knock Manchester City out of the FA Cup.
