Call to ensure farmers' welfare

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that farmers were the custodians of food security and cultural heritage across India and that the Telangana government, having come to power with the support of farmers, was committed to them. Inaugurating the Farmers' and Labourers' Conclave organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC) in Kozhikode on Monday (April 28, 2025), he called upon Congress workers to ensure that 'no farmer is left behind and no labourer walks alone.' Mr. Vikramarka pointed out that the Congress government in Telangana kept its promise to farmers after coming to power. 'We have spent ₹21,000 crore on waiving farmers' loans. They were provided ₹12,000 per acre as a hand-holding measure. Electricity is free 24/7, and the government pays ₹12,000 crore every year to the electricity board for providing power to pump sets. All this was done to reduce the input cost,' he added. He also recalled the role played by successive Congress governments at the Centre in supporting farmers, such as kick-starting the Green Revolution and setting up the minimum support price for various crops. All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Deepa Dasmunshi, in her address, said that farmers in the country had been repeatedly relied upon to support the nation during times of disaster, and they had always delivered. She questioned what the Kerala government has done for the farmers in the State despite having a hammer and sickle on their party flag. DCC president K. Praveen Kumar presided over the conclave, which was held as part of the month-long 'Thrivarnotsavam' celebrating the inauguration of the new DCC office building.
