Israeli strike kills displaced families in Jabalia school massacre

DaysofPal- At least 15 Palestinians, including women and children, were killed early Monday in an Israeli airstrike that hit a girls' school sheltering displaced families in Jabalia, northern Gaza, according to local sources. Previously, the school, known as Fatima Bint Asad, had been a haven for civilians escaping violence. The deadly attack came just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly praised the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) for its announcement to release American-Israeli captive Edan Alexander. In a statement Sunday, Trump described the planned release as a 'goodwill gesture' and expressed hope for an end to the war in Gaza. Palestinian media reported that the strike on the Jabalia school was one of several Israeli bombardments overnight targeting civilian areas across the Gaza Strip. In Gaza City's Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, a gathering of residents came under fire, killing one person and injuring others, including children. In the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, also in Gaza City, a father and his daughter were killed when their home was shelled. Tragedy also struck the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, where Israeli warplanes bombed a house near the Hammad Al-Hasanat Mosque. A woman was killed in a separate strike on a mosque west of the camp. Further south, in Rafah, Israeli forces launched intense aerial raids coupled with widespread home demolitions. Al-Aqsa TV reported that the strikes in Rafah were so violent that their echoes were heard throughout the besieged enclave. Medical sources confirmed that at least 33 Palestinians were killed and 94 injured across the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours alone. According to Gaza health authorities, the overall Palestinian death toll since the Israeli military campaign began in October 2023 has now reached 52,862, with at least 119,648 wounded, most of them women and children. Since Israel resumed its offensive on March 18 following a two-month ceasefire, 2,749 people have been killed and 7,607 injured. Health officials warned that many casualties remain trapped under rubble or scattered on roadways, unreachable by emergency services due to continued Israeli targeting of ambulances and civil defense crews.
