Polisario Front criticizes exclusion from Africa Day celebration in Canary Islands
The Polisario Front was not invited to the Africa Day celebration in the Canary Islands, organized this week by the Federation of African Associations of the archipelago. According to an Iberian media outlet, the Polisario Front's delegation in the Canary Islands «expressed regret in a statement released on Sunday, June 15, over the exclusion of Western Sahara from the festival».
The Front's representatives also condemned «attempts to mislead citizens about the sovereignty of Western Sahara, which contradict international law and the rulings of the Court of Justice of the European Union».
Meanwhile, Kingsley Odiesi, president of the Federation of African Associations of the Canary Islands, told the Iberian press that «the festival was created as a gesture of gratitude for the support and hospitality that the Canary Islands extend to Africans». He explained the Polisario's absence by noting that its representative had withdrawn from the Federation of African Associations of the archipelago.
