LSUHS hosting annual Geaux Bald fundraiser for Feist-Weiller Cancer Center patients
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – LSU Health Shreveport's student organization Geaux Bald will hold its annual 'Shave Day' on Thursday.
According to a press release, proceeds from the fundraiser will be directed towards the renovation of McDade House, a hospitality house for Feist-Weiller Cancer Center patients. The McDade House originally opened in 1985 as only the second hospitality house in the nation. Reopening this 'home away from home' will ease patient housing stress, as almost 50% of patients at FWCC travel twenty miles or more to receive care that can span multiple days.
The release stated that shaving will be provided by the staff of the Chemistry Salon. Numerous students have volunteered to become bald or cut a large portion of their hair as they compete to raise the most money.
The fundraiser will feature a raffle, music, and lunch to served before the grand finale shaving of fan favorite staff members. These include:
Dr. Richard Mansour – Interim Director of the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center
Greg Sonnenfeld – Associate Vice President of the Cancer Service Line at Ochsner LSU Health
Evans Knight – LSUH Sciences Foundation Director of Development
The fundraiser will be held on Thursday, March 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the LSU Health Shreveport Center for Medical Education.
