Explorers pitching combines for 16 strikeouts, allowing one hit in 2-1 Opening Day win at Kane County
GENEVA, Ill. (KCAU) – The Sioux City Explorers pitching combined for 16 strikeouts while only allowing one hit in Sioux City's 2-1 win at Kane County in its season opener.
2024 American Association All-Star Kyle Marman made the start for the X's, striking out 11 batters over seven innings of no-hit baseball. Felix Cepeda struck out four batters in 1.2 innings of relief while Jeremy Goins earned the save, striking out Kane County's Josh Allen with two runners on base.
Torin Montgomery's solo home run in the top of the fifth inning broke a scoreless tie while Abdiel Layer's sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning brought home Austin Davis for the game-deciding run.
Sioux City continues its series with the Cougars on the road. Friday's first pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
