Kiev timed ‘barbaric attack' on civilians to coincide with ceasefire talks

The Russian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned what it described as a 'barbaric' and 'cowardly' attack by Kiev on multiple regions, including Moscow, in the early hours of Tuesday, just ahead of US-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia. The assault, which involved hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), some reportedly loaded with shrapnel to maximize casualties, resulted in three civilian deaths and multiple injuries in Moscow Region. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a total of 337 Ukrainian drones were neutralized overnight, including 91 near the capital and 126 over Kursk Region. 'The neo-Nazi Kiev junta has once again proven its terrorist nature,' the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday evening, suggesting the attack was deliberately timed to coincide with diplomatic discussions in Saudi Arabia and a visit by the OSCE Secretary General to Moscow. 'Without a doubt, this drone attack was planned in advance and timed to coincide with today's US-Ukraine contacts on conflict resolution held in Saudi Arabia. It was also a message to new OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu,' Moscow said, accusing the 'Kiev clique, which is suffering daily defeats on the battlefield,' of attempting to show its ability to negotiate 'from a position of strength.' Following the talks in Saudi Arabia, Kiev agreed to a US-proposed 'immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire' with Russia, while Washington lifted restrictions on military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine. Russia has yet to issue an official response to the developments in Jeddah. 'The Zelensky regime, which has lost its grip on reality, has clearly shown a glaring lack of political will for achieving peace and a negotiated settlement of the conflict. It remains obsessed with the idea of defeating Russia, widely using cynical methods of terror and seeking to draw its backers into its aggressive actions,' the ministry stated before the Jeddah talks concluded. US President Donald Trump indicated on Tuesday that he would likely hold phone talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin soon, expressing hope that Moscow would agree to the proposed 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine. Moscow has previously indicated that any temporary ceasefire deal is unacceptable, arguing that it would only allow Kiev to regroup and rearm, insisting on a permanent, legally binding solution that addresses the core causes of the conflict. Putin stated in January that Russia is seeking a long-term peace based on respect and the legitimate interests of all people living in the region.

OSCE Secretary General visits Moscow, shown aftermath of Ukrainian drone strikes, Russia says

Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu, who visited Moscow on March 11, was shown the aftermath of reported Ukrainian drone attacks. Russia's Defense Ministry claimed its air defenses intercepted 337 drones across multiple regions, including 74 shot down near Moscow, marking what seems to be Ukraine's largest drone attack during the full-scale war. Russia itself continues daily attacks on Ukraine with missiles, drones, and guided bombs. Ukraine's Air Force reported intercepting 79 of the 126 Russian drones launched overnight on March 11, along with one Iskander-M ballistic missile. Russian officials claimed that three people were killed in Moscow Oblast, including a security guard in Domodedovo and two men who later died in the hospital. Eighteen others, including three children, were injured, according to Russia's Health Ministry. The Kyiv Independent could not verify the claims. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the OSCE chief witnessed the damage firsthand, writing on Telegram, "It is impossible to deny the obvious, especially what we have seen with our own eyes." Meanwhile, Andrey Kartapolov, head of Russia's State Duma Defense Committee, called for retaliatory strikes on Ukraine using the Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile. The strikes occurred just as Ukrainian and U.S. delegations were set to meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss possible peace terms with Russia. Ukrainian officials reportedly plan to propose a partial truce covering aerial and naval operations, hoping to restore U.S. military aid and intelligence sharing. The OSCE was formed in the 1970s at the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe, which provided a platform for dialogue between the Eastern Bloc and Western Bloc during the Cold War. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov attended the OSCE Ministerial Meeting in Malta in person, the Foreign Ministry announced on Dec. 5. A delegation from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has arrived at a site in Moscow Region that earlier on Tuesday was attacked by Ukrainian kamikaze drones. The delegation inspected damage to a civilian residential building in the western district of the city of Vidnoye, south of Moscow. A total of 337 Ukrainian UAVs were shot down over Russian territory overnight, the Defense Ministry reported earlier in the day. The majority were intercepted in the Kursk and Moscow regions, with 129 and 91 drones downed, respectively. In Moscow Region, three civilians lost their lives, and more than a dozen were injured, according to Governor Andrey Vorobyev. 'The OSCE Secretary General [Feridun Sinirlioglu] was taken to the site where the drones fell and exploded so that he could witness the actual reality firsthand, rather than relying on reports, including those prepared by those who sponsor the Kiev regime, that depict a distorted version of events,' Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday. She accused Ukraine of deliberately orchestrating the assault to coincide with the visit of the OSCE Secretary General to Moscow. 'This is not the first time that a trip to Moscow by a high-ranking foreign delegation is being accompanied by a Ukrainian drone attack,' Zakharova said, adding that viewing the results of the attack would illustrate for Sinirlioglu 'the true nature of the Kiev regime.'Moscow has previously accused the OSCE of multiple failures throughout the Ukraine conflict, including a lack of objectivity. Last year, Russia criticized the OSCE for failing to denounce killings of Russian civilians by Ukrainian forces during raids they conducted in border regions.
