Official: Three Barcelona players named in Spain U-21 squad for Euros; double duty for one star
Official: Three Barcelona players named in Spain U-21 squad for Euros; double duty for one star With the post-season international break almost upon us, national teams are announcing squads for their upcoming matches and Barcelona players are expected to feature heavily. As revealed earlier today, as many as six Barça stars have been named in the Spain senior squad for their UEFA Nations League fixtures next month. Advertisement Now, Spain's Under-21 manager Santi Denia has released the squad list for the U-21 European Championships in the summer, with three Barcelona youngsters included. Indeed, defender Gerard Martin, and midfielders Pablo Torre and Fermin Lopez have all been named in the squad by Santi Denia. It means that Fermin, who is also included in the senior La Roja squad, will be pulling double duty during the summer, much like he did last year when he was part of the Euro-winning squad and then participated in the Olympics. Unlike Fermin, though, other youngsters like Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal have not been called up for the U-21 Euros.

Barcelona midfield ace reveals inspiration behind his goal celebration – ‘It is for my…'
Fermin Lopez continues to captivate fans not just with his performances on the pitch but also with his down-to-earth personality and deep love for FC Barcelona. In a recent interactive session hosted by 'Residency', the young midfielder opened up about his dreams, inspirations, and personal rituals, revealing a player fully immersed in the club's identity and driven by collective success. Advertisement 'I'm just a normal boy fighting for his dreams,' said Fermin. Having risen through the La Masia system, he represents the spirit of homegrown talent now stepping up to the first team with confidence and pride. There is no mistaking where Fermin's heart lies. When asked about his favourite stadium, he didn't hesitate: 'Camp Nou, our home, of course.' For him, being part of Barça is not just a career, it is a lifelong passion. His ambitions align perfectly with the club's greatest aspirations. 'One of my dreams is winning the Champions League with Barça,' he stated, before adding, 'and also the World Cup with Spain.' Players he looks up to Fermin Lopez has a trademark celebration. (Photo by) To reach those heights, Fermin looks up to two of the most legendary figures in football history: 'Leo Messi and Andres Iniesta have always been my idols.' Advertisement Like them, Fermin values team success above all. 'I don't think about individual awards. I only think about titles. If those [awards] come, they will come.' When asked about the upcoming Ballon d'Or, he kept it simple and loyal: 'Whoever wins it, I just hope it's someone from Barça.' Explaining the celebration Fermin also shared a bit of personal flair. His trademark goal celebration, hand to the temple in a military-style salute, has a special meaning. 'It's for my friend Jan Raich,' he explained, referencing the Catalan musical artist and influencer. He even performed it in the last Clasico after scoring what should have been a legitimate goal in the 5-3 thriller against Real Madrid, only to see it disallowed by the referees. And when it comes to celebrating goals, there is one teammate who stands out in his eyes: 'Lamine's celebrations are brutal. I love them,' he concluded. Source: SPORT

Three talking points from Barcelona 2-3 Villarreal
Barcelona's penultimate game of the season kicked off at Montjuic on Sunday evening and provided 90 entertaining minutes of football to fans across the globe. Villarreal took the early lead at Barcelona's home through Ayoze Perez just three minutes into the game, but Lamine Yamal then stepped up and scored a world-class goal to make it 1-1. Advertisement Fermin Lopez then helped the hosts take the lead with a great strike from outside the box just before the stroke of half-time. Villarreal, however, did not hold back after the break. Goals from Santi Comesana and Tajon Buchanan after the break gave Villarreal the lead once more and they held on to it as Barcelona failed to mount a comeback. Barça Universal brings you three talking points from Barcelona 2-3 Villarreal. An immaterial result Barcelona's first La Liga defeat in 2025 arrived on Sunday evening but fans and players could not care less. After all, it will be a game forgotten under the cloud of euphoria currently around the city. Advertisement The Catalans sealed the league title midweek with a win over Espanyol after a heated derby and thereby mathematically clinched the title. Last night's match was thus their first game as proclaimed champions. Still in the hangover of their celebrations, they were unable to grab all three points. For Villarreal, meanwhile, last night's game was of paramount importance as they fought for a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season. The intensity, thus, was visible in their display from start to finish as they chased the one point they needed to secure a place in the competition and they eventually left the venue with all three. Advertisement Only one game remains for Barcelona before the players embark on some much-needed rest, and the team has every right to take a step back and play second fiddle once more after all the joy they have given this term. Fermin's incredible impact Fermin continues to impress. (Photo by) Hansi Flick has unsurprisingly preferred Dani Olmo over Fermin Lopez on the big nights for Barcelona, for it is not even a debate that the new signing is a technically superior player who thrives against low blocks. Fermin Lopez, thus, has had a largely fringe role for Barcelona in recent games and has only come on as a substitute. Yet, his impact in those limited minutes outshines that of Olmo. Advertisement Lopez was unlucky to have a goal disallowed against Real Madrid, scored a last-minute goal for Barcelona against Espanyol and was one of the team's best players last night against Villarreal. The La Masia graduate was a constant nuisance in the Yellow Submarines' area as he constantly threatened on goal, forced some sensational saves and eventually got his goal with a stunning strike from outside the box. The recent trend has shown that Fermin is capable of stepping up and providing under pressure. He may not be as gifted as Olmo, but his passion and desire to give his all make him a standout player. Farewell Montjuic If everything goes as per Joan Laporta's plan, Barcelona should return to a partially-opened Spotify Camp Nou early next season. Advertisement Word has it that the stadium will be ready by September and the Catalans will likely play away games until that point. In that sense, their journey at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys has come to an end. For two years, the venue at Montjuic has served as a foster home for the club and hosted all of the team's home games. The logistics for fans may have been difficult, but there is not much else one can complain about the stadium. As the Montjuic era comes to an end, Barcelona can only look back fondly on the memories they have created at the venue. Last season may not have been all that memorable, but it will always be the stadium in which Hansi Flick revitalised the team and made them one of the best in the world. Needless to say, it is only fitting that the team bid the stadium farewell last night lifting the trophy in front of the fans and celebrating late into the night. That was, after all, that highlight of the night that made the result immaterial.

Liverpool told Barcelona WILL sell homegrown 'treasure'
The 22-year-old midfielder is multi-faceted, capable of playing anywhere across the middle of the pitch. This season he's got four goals and four assists from only 10 league starts - and had an effort disallowed in controversial circumstances against Real Madrid on Sunday. The lack of game-time afforded to the La Masia prospect has proven to be a source of frustration, with Fermin ready to consider his future at the club. It was reported previously that the Spain international REJECTED a move to Atletico Madrid in the hope of arriving at Anfield instead this summer. He could prove to be a useful addition for Arne Slot, being able to cover for Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister - as well as Mohamed Salah if required. View this post on Instagram A post shared by LALIGA (@laliga) And now comes news from Catalonia that the club are ready to listen to offers for Fermin this summer. With interest materialising from Saudi Arabia, Barca Blaugranes states that the soon-to-be Spanish champions will accept €60m to let go of their midfield schemer. 'The club has no intention of letting him go for less than €60 million, aware that Fermín has become one of the most marketable players on the squad,' a report states. Fermin,, has got a contract at Barca until 2029, appearing in 43 matches overall this season.

Barcelona fight back to beat Real Madrid in frantic Clasico
Barcelona have one hand on the La Liga trophy after beating Real Madrid 4-3 in a goal-laden El Clásico. Barca went into the clash four points clear of their rivals and have now extended that to seven with only three games left despite a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappe. Real made a lightning start, Mbappe picking himself up to score from the penalty spot in the fifth minute after a foul by Wojciech Szczesny and then doubling the visitors' advantage nine minutes later. But in the 19th minute, Eric Garcia pulled one back and Lamine Yamal levelled with a curling effort with 32 minutes gone. Barca were now firmly on the front foot and they went in at half-time 4-2 ahead, Raphinha seizing on a defensive mistake two minutes later and then netting the fourth just before the break. Mbappe completed his treble with 20 minutes left but Real could not find an equaliser, while birthday boy Fermin Lopez had a late fifth for Barca disallowed for handball. More to follow... It was a very important game obviously. We wanted to bounce back in front of our own fans after what happened in the Champions League. It's a very special moment [to hear fans celebrating]. I can't wait to play at Camp Nou but it's great to play here. That was the final moment of the half and the Barcelona players and fans are celebrating wildly. Seven points clear of Madrid with three games to play. Game set match Barcelona. Fermin seals the points for Barcelona and maybe the title. Fermin wins the ball back on the left, cuts inside and rifles a shot past Courtois. But.... VAR are intervening here. The ball hit Fermin's hand as he won the ball back and the referee looks at the monitor and deems it to be handball. Barcelona fans on their feet and waving their scarves. Their team is about to go seven points clear. Mbappe thinks he has scored again but the offside flag denies him at the far post. Six minutes added on. What a chance. Mbappe plays a lovely pass to the sub Munoz. He gets one-on-one with Szczesny but blazes high and wide. He had to score there. Madrid sub: OFF ViniciusON Victor Munoz Madrid sub: OFF VazquezON Endrick After a long wait, the referee is advised to look at the VAR monitor for the Tchouameni handball. And he stands by his decision not to give the penalty. Good decision for me. Barcelona after appealing for a penalty after Ferran's shot hits Tchouameni's hand at close distance. Again, nothing given. Fermin is then booked for a foul. Barcelona sub: OFF Olmo & GarciaON Fermin & Fort Vinicius Jnr is appealing for a penalty after contact with Martinez but nothing given. Bizarrely, Szczesny is yet to save a shot today but he's picked the ball out of his net three times. Game on?! Mbappe has his hat trick. Madrid expose Barcelona's high line again. Modric plays in Vinicius, who runs clear and unselfishly squares for Mbappe to tap in. And that's a hat-trick for Kylian Mbappé! 🎩🪄Real Madrid aren't out of this one yet ⚪𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 @sbk | 18+ | 𝑃𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝐺𝑎𝑚𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑦 — Premier Sports (@PremSportsTV) May 11, 2025 Vinicius Jnr has had a very quiet game. Garcia has defended him very well out on the left. Madrid starting to get a foothold in the match. Plenty runs being made in behind Barcelona's defence but Barcelona have been so good at denying Real time and space. Barcelona sub: OFF Martin & CubarsiON Balde & Christensen Mbappe breaks the Barcelona offside line again. He gets into the box and shoots just wide. He wants corner but nothing given. Yellow card for Martinez. A strange one as the defender catches Bellingham's hand with his foot. Barcelona think they have their fifth goal of the match. Ferran plays the ball in behind for Raphinha and he races through before squaring for Yamal to tap in. But the flag goes up and replays confirm it. Yellow card for Asencio after a heavy tackle on Torres near the halfway line. Madrid will be hoping the introduction of Modric will allow them greater control of the ball. In and out of possession, Madrid were so poor in the first half. One change for Madrid. Ceballos off, Modric on. 16 - @FCBarcelona have scored 16 goals in their four games vs Real Madrid this season in all competitions, a record for a team vs "Whites" in a single ever season (13 for Espanyol in 1929/30 and 13 for Barça in 2011/12). Party. #ElClasico ❤💙#BarcelonaRealMadrid — OptaJose (@OptaJose) May 11, 2025 Bellingham finds Mbappe with a nice pass and the Frenchman runs clear to score what he thinks is a hat-trick. But the flag goes up. Replays show it was the right decision. And that is the final moment of a breathtaking half of football. Wowzers. Barcelona are showboating their way to the break. The crowd are 'oleing' every pass. Humiliation for Madrid. We are into six minutes of stoppage time. Valverde is in need of treatment after falling awkwardly. He is holding his right knee but looks OK to continue. An unbelievable half of football. Vazquez is careless and slack on the ball and that allows Raphinha to dispossess him. Ferran backs up his team-mate and takes the ball, then squares it back to Raphinha, who has the easy task of shooting past Courtois for his second of the match. It's 4-2 and it's not even half time! 😱😱Raphinha gets his second and extends Barcelona's lead in ElClásico 🔵🔴𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 @sbk | 18+ | 𝑃𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝐺𝑎𝑚𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑦 — Premier Sports (@PremSportsTV) May 11, 2025 Madrid are given a penalty after Mbappe goes down following a challenge with De Jong. The Barcelona players are furious. But wait a minute. The referee says it is offside. Bellingham's head is deemed to be offside by VAR. So no penalty. Oh my word. What a cross by Yamal. He bends the ball around Ceballos with the outside of his left foot. The ball bends to the far post and Raphinha heads over. He should have done better. Madrid need the half-time whistle. They need to regroup and start again because they've been comprehensively outplayed. Tchouameni is booked for bringing down Ferran. Barcelona bench leap to their feet and demand a red card. Tchouameni was the last man but the foul was committed wide on the left. The Madrid defender is a lucky boy. Comeback complete. Mbappe loses the ball after a mix up with Ceballos. Barcelona break clear through Pedri, who slips in the unmarked Raphinha. The Brazilian takes one touch then drills a shot into the bottom corner past Courtois. This young man is so special. Madrid lose the ball again which allows Barcelona to start another attack. They try to go down the middle then shift the ball wide to Yamal, who curls a brilliant shot past Courtois first time. All the passing and probing is being done by Barcelona. Madrid are doing OK to withstand it for now but they need to do a lot more when they get the ball. First yellow card of the match goes to Valverde for a foul on Yamal. Dazzling feet by the Spaniard teased the midfielder into a sliding challenge. Eight corners to zero in favour of the home side. A clear sign of the dominance they have enjoyed. Real have had two moments in the Barcelona half and scored both of them. It's all Barcelona at the moment. Madrid struggling to cope with their intensity and speed. Barcelona want a penalty but nothing is given for the incident with Raphinha and Vazquez. Barcelona take a quick corner. Olmo's delivery is flick on by Ferran and Garcia is left free to head in at the near post. Game on. Never a dull game between these two. We've got another ElClásico it's not even 20 minutes in yet! 🙌Eric Garcia gets one back for Barcelona 🔵🔴𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 @sbk | 18+ | 𝑃𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝐺𝑎𝑚𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑦 — Premier Sports (@PremSportsTV) May 11, 2025 Stunning effort from 35 yards out by Martin on the rise. Madrid counter with Vinicius Jnr and he plays a cute pass with the outside of his right foot to Mbappe, who runs clear and coolly slots past Szczesny. VAR check the alleged foul but clear it. Goal stands! Decent response from Barcelona. They are keen to press the Madrid players and commit numbers forward. Madrid are going long with a lot of their balls at the moment. Mbappe picks himself up and scores. That is his 25th league goal of the season. Szczesny went the right way and got his hand on it but there was enough pace in the shot to get past him. Just the start Real Madrid needed in ElClásico! ⚪Kylian Mbappé scores from the spot for his 25th LALIGA goal of the season, tying Robert Lewandowski in the top scorer race 🔥𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 @sbk | 18+ | 𝑃𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝐺𝑎𝑚𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑦 — Premier Sports (@PremSportsTV) May 11, 2025 Szczesny brings down Mbappe after the Madrid striker burst through. Before turning 18, Messi had only played nine matches for Barcelona. In those nine games, he scored one goal and registered zero assists. Ronaldo, meanwhile, scored five goals and registered four assists in 19 matches for Sporting Lisbon before his 18th birthday. Even if we ignore age and compare their first two seasons as regular first-team players, Yamal still remains far ahead of these two modern greats. In Messi's first two campaigns with the Barcelona first team, he scored nine goals in 34 matches. For Ronaldo at Sporting and Manchester United, it was 11 goals in 71 games. There is, of course, an enormous difference between bettering Messi at 17 and then bettering him at his mid-twenties peak. There can be no telling how Yamal might develop, or indeed how his body will cope with the physical demands of the game. But his trajectory is pointing in the right direction. (@realmadrid) May 11, 2025 🚨 BARÇA XI 🚨#ElClásico — FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) May 11, 2025 Hello and welcome to coverage from La Liga of the last clásico of the season – the meeting between bitter rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid. The home side come into the match on the back of a heartbreaking midweek Champions League semi-final defeat by Inter Milan. The Catalans were beaten 7-6 on aggregate in extra time to miss out on a trip to Munich next month. With four games left in the league season, Barcelona lead second-placed Real by four points and manager Hansi Flick says a win over their rivals would be the best way to recover from Tuesday's exit from Europe. 'After the defeat in Milan, everyone knows it was not easy [for us], but we are doing things right,' Flick said. 'We have spoken about that [defeat] and also what we want to do in the next two weeks. We have four more matches to go. 'El clásico is very important for us to show again how we can play. It is about our confidence and what we want to do on the pitch, and the players are doing really well. 'Everyone knows that in el clásico, you have to be on your highest level and that is what the team has to do. We want to be active, to see the team with intensity on the pitch and dominant as normal Barcelona has won all three clásicos this season across all competitions, including a recent victory in the Copa del Rey final. It is almost certain to be Carlo Ancelotti's last as Real manager with Xabi Alonso expected to replace him in the summer. 'What happens around us has not affected us at all,' he said before adding: 'With this club the honeymoon does not end. Real Madrid and AC Milan before it are clubs that stay in my heart because of the time I've been here and because of the relationships. The honeymoon with Madrid is going to be until the last day of my life. 'I have read that he (Alonso) is leaving Bayer Leverkusen. He has done an incredible job and has the doors open because he has proven to be one of the best in the world.'
