Pope Francis remembered as leader of inter-religious dialogue
Panaji: Pope Francis was a pope of peace and for peace in the world. He also propagated interreligious dialogue, said Archbishop of Goa and Daman Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao on Thursday at a special Mass offered by the Archdiocese at Se Cathedral, to pray for the soul of Pope Francis. Bishop emeritus of Port Blair, bishop Alex Dias, priests, and religious of the archdiocese gathered at Se Cathedral, the mother church of the archdiocese, to pray for the eternal repose of Pope Francis. Ferrao said Pope Francis gave special attention to the old, disabled, and children and said the Church should not be a museum of saints but a hospital for sinners. Filipe Neri Ferrao among four of six Indian cardinals to vote for new Pope
Panaji: Out of six Indian cardinals , four who are under the age of 80 years will be eligible to vote for a new Pope at the Papal Conclave to be held in Rome after Pope Francis ' funeral. Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao , who is also the president of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) and the Federation of Asian Bishops Conference (FABC), will vote for a new Pope along with three other Indian cardinals. 'Pope Francis had a special love for India and longed to visit our land,' Ferrao stated after his demise, calling on all churches and the faithful to observe nine days of mourning and to offer special prayers and Masses for the repose of his soul. Koovakad, a diplomat for the Vatican, belongs to the Syro-Malabar Church, from the archdiocese of Changanacherry, and was in charge of coordinating Pope Francis' foreign trips since 2021. He was in Goa last year as part of a Vatican delegation for the Exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier. Cardinal Anthony Poola, 63, the first Dalit cardinal in history and archbishop of Hyderabad, is also eligible to vote for a new pope. Cardinal Oswald Gracias, who is 80 years old, will not be eligible to vote. Similarly, Major archbishop emeritus of the Syro-Malabar Church, Cardinal George Alencherry, who turned 80 on April 19, won't be eligible to vote.

Ferrao calls for tolling of bells, requiem Masses
Panaji: The Archbishop of Goa, Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao , who is also head of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), has called upon all dioceses, parishes, religious communities, and families to observe nine days of mourning and to offer special prayers and requiem Masses for the repose of Pope Francis' soul. 'As a visible sign of our grief, church bells should be tolled to signify our sorrow and announce the passing away of our supreme pontiff,' said Ferrao. 'Wherever possible and considering local circumstances, I urge all dioceses to gather priests, religious, and lay faithful at the Cathedral, on a suitable day, to offer a requiem Mass uniting in prayer for the eternal repose of our beloved Holy Father. This will be an expression of our profound solidarity with the universal Church,' he stated. 'Pope Francis held a special love for India and longed to visit our land. He consistently reminded us of our duty to care for the poor and to build a synodal Church,' said Ferrao.
