British couple die as £300k Ferrari plunges from Spanish mountain
The motor came flying off of a mountain road and landed in a river below. A British couple have died in a road crash - after their Ferrari plunged from a mountain in Spain. The £300,000 supercar veered off of a mountain road and fell into the Yuso river, near Boca de Huergano, northern Spain. The driver and passenger were found dead by rescuers who were sent out to the wreckage. The victims have only been identified by their ages, 78 and 58, at this time, The Mirror reports. It's understood they were part of a rally in the mainland European country, and that the licence plates on the vehicle were also from the United Kingdom. The motor enthusiasts had arrived in the city of Leon the day before the tragedy. Shocking images captured the aftermath of the crash which showed the damaged car partly submerged in the Yuso River. Emergency services were called to reports that the car had fallen into the river, with two people stuck inside, reports local media. Fire crews raced to the scene to find the the vehicle had been flipped on its roof. Rescue teams spent more than six hours trying to recover the couple, who were trapped in the car. Before the couple could be retrieved, firefighters had to cut their way through thick foliage to get to them. The incident prompted a large response including support from the Traffic Police and the Civil Guard. Local commentator Jose Antonio Gutierrez Sampedro said: "A Ferrari 488 with 700 horsepower needs to be handled carefully. "It seems the couple were 78 and 58 years old. Maybe the driver suffered a medical emergency. Such a sad way to lose your life." The Ferrari 488 GT Modificata is a special-edition that can travel up to 60mph in just under three seconds.

According to Metro, authorities took hours to reach the wreckage of the couple's black Ferrari 488, a 300,000-pound supercar partially submerged in the Yuso River. Notably, the couple was travelling in a rally with approximately 20 other Ferrari owners, all with UK license plates. They had arrived in Leon the day before the tragic crash. The couple was navigating the scenic yet demanding N-621 mountain road when their black Ferrari veered off around 2 pm. The car flipped and landed upside down in the Yuso River. The highway is known for its stunning scenery, but drivers are warned they need to navigate 'sweeping bends' and 'twisty roads'. Disturbing images showed the damaged vehicle partly underwater in the river, with a sunhat still resting on one of the seats. The car had overturned, landing on its roof in the river, and was flipped back by firefighters during the operation. Emergency workers told how they had to hack their way through thick riverside plants before they reached the car.
