Ferry Fire nearly doubles in size, evacuations remain in Sherman County
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Ferry Fire, burning along Highway 206 in Sherman County, nearly doubled in size overnight as evacuations remain in place.
The fire started Thursday about 1.5 miles south of Cottonwood Canyon State Park and was initially estimated to be 5,000 acres. However, Central Oregon Fire Info shared Friday morning that the blaze was now 9,107 acres and 5% contained.
Evacuations are in place for parts of Sherman County, for the area south of Starvation Lane between the east intersection of Starvation Lane and the John Day River.

There are also evacuations for Cottonwood Canyon State Park. Additionally, Highway 206 and the John Day River are closed in the area.
