Britons swear by gut-wrenching methods of tackling hangovers

A study has found that one in five Brits drink raw eggs and pickle juice in a bid to feel better while battling a hangover, with some even turning to essential oils and aromatherapy One in five festival-goers admit to necking pickle juice or raw eggs to battle horror hangovers when they return home. Rejecting traditional hangover cures of fry-ups and hair of the dog, a stomach-churning one-fifth (21%) of Brits chug raw eggs in a bid to feel human again. Another fifth (18%) opt to sup pickle juice, which is believed to have hangover-busting properties thanks to its sodium content. ‌ A more spiritual 27% of flagging Millennials and Gen Z-ers turn to essential oils and aromatherapy to give themselves a much-needed pick-me-up while 15% opt for crystal healing and energy healing. Of 2,000 Brits quizzed, more than half (59%) admitted they didn't always succeed in helping them recover. ‌ Just Eat has recruited medical doctor Dr Amos Ogunkoya to launch Festival Aid Kits - a science-backed solution to help Brits recover more effectively, delivered straight to the door. Data from the online food order and delivery platform shows Brits are increasingly turning to on-demand delivery for beauty and health essentials. with customers having bought more than two million items in the last year. Nearly half of all festival-goers (44%) admit they've never felt worse than the day after their return - with the average festival recovery time being two full days. The Festival Aid Kit is filled with doctor-approved essentials that should speed up their road to recovery in no time. Just in time for those returning from Glastonbury festival on June 30, the launch comes as Just Eat has partnered with Boots and Co-op to create Festival SOS aisles on the app. This brings together all the items festival-goers might need for pre-festival prep and post-festival recovery, available for delivery in as little as 30 minutes. Among the items included in the kits is Dr Amos' elite recovery aid - a good old tin of baked beans. Festival lovers are starting to realise the benefits too, as the survey found more than one in 10 Brits (14%) voted baked beans as an absolute staple when returning home. While the humble store-cupboard staple might not seem like it stores healing powers, the high-fibre, plant protein-rich nature of baked beans helps with slow energy release. This is great for combatting fatigue and supporting gut health - perfect for getting nutrition back on track after days of inconsistent eating, and drinking, patterns. ‌ Another unexpected addition is pickled beetroot. As well as being packed with vitamins and minerals, the fermentation process behind pickling produces probiotics to help boost people's immune system and gut health recovery. Other hero recovery hacks in the kit include Lemon & Ginger Tea, DioraHydrate Effervescent Tablets, Back & Muscle Pain Relief Gel and a Moisture Bomb Revitalising Tissue Mask to bring a moment of self-care calm after the festival chaos. Almost two-thirds (64%) of Brits admit the last thing they want to do the day they return home is to go shopping. The new Festival SOS aisles on Just Eat make it easy to get everything delivered straight to festival-goers' doors. Dr Amos Ogunkoya said: "After a festival our bodies need a lot of repair, conscious recover and TLC. "It's all about prioritising self-care after days of too much sun, late nights and non-stop socialising, but many of us struggle to find solutions that stick. I've curated the ultimate Festival Aid Kit from Just Eat to help make the recovery period a little bit easier, with my favourite simple-but-effective fixes all in one place." Dana Grabiner, Head of Grocery & Retail at Just Eat, said: "Just Eat knows the nation loves to make the most of festival season, but that the aftermath can also be a struggle. We're excited to team up with Co-op and Boots to make post-festival recovery as convenient as possible. Whether selfcare is in the form of a relaxing face mask or baked beans, our Festival SOS aisles have everything you need to feel refreshed."
