Single mom, influencer defends gender selection of new baby: ‘For me'

An Aussie mother who has been the center of controversy over her decision to choose her baby's gender has defended her actions on radio. Caitlin Bailey, from Melbourne, is a single mom with two sons and a daughter. Advertisement However, she always wanted two children of each biological sex so she spent $45,000 to fly to America for IVF treatment that allowed her to fulfil this dream. Gender selection is banned in Australia due to the ethics involved, meaning Bailey had to use the services of Californian doctor Daniel Potter via Gender Selection Australia. But, her actions divided public opinion — and now the 31-year-old influencer is defending her decision to do so. She told The Fox's Fifi, Fev & Nick that she knew she'd face a lot of judgement for going through with it but at the end of the day it was 'my body, my family.' Advertisement 'People don't know me. The media will take what they want to take. I'd be silly to think they're not going to do that. I can assure you that I'm a good person and I love my kids. I would do anything for my children, at the end of the day they are the most important thing in the world to me. I'm not doing this to make other people upset or cause controversy,' she said. Caitlin Bailey, a single mom with two sons from Melbourne, Australia, has drawn controversy for choosing her baby's gender while on the radio show The Fox's Fifi, Fev & Nick. instagram/ 'I purely made this choice for me. There are so many different arguments and opinions. It does hurt my feelings when I see negative comments. I don't want that, and I don't mean to hurt these people.' Bailey said she documented her journey on her social media account, where she boasts 60,000 followers, because there was no one on her feed like her. Advertisement 'I'm not telling people, 'You should all do sex-selection, and you should do this too.' I'm just saying it's an option,' she said. 'We've got the technology and medical advancement to make this an option.' Radio star Fifi Box defended Bailey's decision, saying when she was going through IVF with her second pregnancy she thought it would be much easier to have another daughter. The Aussie media personality said she thought it was a 'shame' that Bailey felt the need to defend herself. Advertisement Bailey wanted two children, each of the same biological sex, and spent $45,000 to go to America to receive IVF treatment. instagram/ One of the big points brought up in the last few days is how much money Bailey spent, which she said came from her savings. The influencer argued that she could have spent that much money on IVF anyway, and that she was saving money because if she tried to conceive naturally she would have kept going until she had another daughter. 'I think it's more responsible to do it this way than try to have another three or four kids, and if I kept having boys I would still feel like I wouldn't have felt that content feeling,' she said. Sex selection is banned in Australia, however it was temporarily available in New South Wales between 1999 and 2004. Now, the only caveat is certain medical exemptions based on gender — for instance if a couple carries genes for conditions such as muscular dystrophy, which predominantly impacts males.

Guy Sebastian in hospital awaiting surgery after rupturing Achilles injury in local footy game with Brendan Fevola

Australian pop star Guy Sebastian is in hospital and due to undergo surgery after suffering a rupturing Achilles in a local footy game alongside AFL great Brendan Fevola. The music and sporting veterans turned out for Masala Dandenong Thirds on Saturday and helped the struggling team to a win one week after they were demolished by 229 points. Sebastian, in full kit, performed some of his biggest hits at half-time and scrapped plans to leave early, getting back on the field only to finish with what he described as 'a little injury'. Fevola said it was a far worse situation than Sebastian let on. 'I spoke to him this morning, he's not well,' Fevola told Channel 7's Sunday Footy Feast. 'He had a mate's 40th back in Sydney so when we decided to do this to help out a footy club ... they're horrible. That was the whole point. 'There were a couple of other teams to play (on Saturday) but Guy Sebastian just released his new single, Maybe, so I said 'mate, do you think you can come out and sing at half-time and he said 'mate, I'd love to'. 'But he had to be gone by about 1.30, he's catching a flight to a 40th. So we go perfect, we'll do the 9 o'clock slot because that's when the thirds division five play. 'Guy actually played the first quarter, sung at half-time, sung virtually a whole concert and then he was so into it, he was actually having a crack. 'He goes 'I'll play the second half'. Fourth quarter, I saw him fall down and I couldn't stop laughing because he just fell. I was like 'mate, singers shouldn't play footy, footy players shouldn't sing, keep to your genre'. 'And he looked around and he goes 'I think something popped'. I said that's not good, because I've done both Achilles. 'He's ruptured his Achilles. He's getting surgery on Monday and is in hospital. So he missed his mate's 40th but hey we got good headlines, which is great.' Sebastian shared his regret in a light-hearted post on Instagram. 'Thought I'd strap on the boots after a LONG hiatus and performed for the locals,' he wrote. 'Great day out for Masala Dandenong getting their first win with Brendan Fevola kicking a bag! 'Unfortunately I've done a proper number on myself. #realitycheck #sticktosinging #footyglorydaysareover.' Fevola was the star of the show at Lois Twohig Reserve, kicking six goals in the Tigers' 7.13 (55) to 8.5 (53) win over South Melbourne. The win ended their 20-game losing streak. Fevola and Sebastian played in the match as part of a promotion run by Fevola's breakfast radio program. They were initially scrutinised for their involvement given VAFA rules state that no players are allowed to be paid. But Fevola hit out at the investigation, saying he never gets paid for any of his apperances. 'Everyone thinks I'm getting paid to be doing this but they don't realise we're doing it for radio,' Fevola said on The Fox's Fifi, Fev & Nick. 'All the other presidents around the VAFA have blown up. What's wrong with these people? Pull your head out of your butt. 'We are doing this for a team that is bottom, bottom, bottom of the ladder in Division 5. 'There's no cash here.'

Brendan Fevola and Guy Sebastian inspire struggling local team Masala Dandenong to stunning win

Beloved AFL champion Brendan Fevola and pop star Guy Sebastian have inspired a struggling local team to stunning victory on Saturday. Fevola and Sebastian lined up for the Masala Dandenong Football Club Thirds, a week after they were demolished by 229 points by St Bedes/Mentone. Despite turning 44 earlier this year, Fevola basically singled-handedly dragged the Tigers to victory over the South Melbourne at the Lois Twohig Reserve. The Carlton great had four in the first quarter to get the crowd up and about early before finishing with six of his side's seven goals as they held on for a 7.13 (55) to 8.5 (53) victory. The win ended the club's 20-game losing streak. Sebastian also showed some crafty skills through the midfield before getting behind the mic at half-time to belt out a few of his biggest hits, much to the delight of the more than 2500 in attendance. Fevola was delighted to come away with the win. 'I love playing footy and that's something they'll never forget and I'll never forget,' he said. Sebastian unfortunately finished the match with an injury, but was still in great spirits. 'It's great for Masala Dandenong to get a win and have a great crowd come out to support both teams,' Sebastian told News Corp. 'In a sign that 'maybe' it's time to hang up the boots, I sustained a little injury in the fourth quarter, but I'll be fine and again I am stoked that the boys were able to get up and score a win today.' The pair played in the match as part of a promotion run by Fevola's breakfast radio program. VAFA: Brendan Fevola's anger over Masala Dandenong appearance

Don't miss out on the headlines from Local Footy. Followed categories will be added to My News. Former AFL star Brendan Fevola has hit out at local footy club presidents for scrutinising his appearance for a battling club this weekend, where Aussie musician Guy Sebastian will also play. Fevola and Sebastian became the subject of a Victorian Amateur Football Association investigation this week after it was revealed they would pull on the boots for Masala Dandenong in the Thirds Division 5 competition. Fevola claimed rival presidents queried whether he was being paid for the one-game where Aussie musician Guy Sebastian will perform at halftime. Under VAFA rules, no players are allowed to be paid. Fevola is scheduled to play in the club's second side which has lost by an average of 117 points across four games this season. The Tigers finished bottom of the ladder last season with no wins, 16 losses and a percentage of 18.5. 'There's no cash here.' A VAFA spokesperson confirmed Fevola's appearance had been approved by the competition. The game will take place on Saturday at Lois Twohig Reserve in Dandenong North from 9am. Fevola's main club this season is Essendon District Football League outfit East Sunbury. In round 1, he helped the Thunder end a 1344-day losing streak.

Joe Exotic urges Anthony Albanese to pressure Donald Trump to release him from prison

Joe Exotic has urged Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to help him get of out prison. Last week, the controversial Netflix star made international headlines with his bizarre campaigning for the Labor leader across his social media accounts. Now that Albanese has been returned to office, Exotic is hoping that his previous support across social media might mean that the PM will do him a favour in return. During an appearance on The Fox's Fifi, Fev & Nick, the Tiger King star urged the presenter's to pass on a message. 'If you ever get to talk to Mr Albanese tell him to look at the evidence. Tell him to watch Tiger King season two, where they all admit to perjury. Have him pick up the phone to President Trump and say, 'enough is enough'.' Exotic is serving time for multiple offences, including a murder-for-hire plot targeting animal activist - and the zookeeper's known nemesis - Carole Baskin. He was also found guilty of multiple violations of the Endangered Species Act after killing five tigers, plus falsifying wildlife records. He is currently serving a 21-year sentence, although some changes have been made since his conviction in 2020. Albanese was made aware of Exotic's endorsement during an address at the National Press Club last week when he was quizzed by a journalist. The Prime Minister replied: 'It's good to see some levity.' 'I have a very passionate, support for one particular animal — Toto — and I'm looking forward to voting with her on Saturday,' he said, referencing his dog. After Exotic's campaigning went viral, the jailed TV star was forced to clarify that the PM didn't 'pay him' for the endorsement. 'No Anthony Albanese did not pay me,' he clarified on Instagram. 'I made a public offer to work for their zoo for free for six months or any other wildlife conservation if he would call President Trump and ask for me to be released based on the American government's witnesses have admitted to perjury. I will make the same offer to President Trump or the President of Mexico.'
