Stellantis CFO praises new CEO, promises progress in American market at fireside chat
Stellantis CFO Doug Ostermann spent the afternoon praising the automaker's new chief executive and promising big things for the American operations of the company in years to come. Speaking at the Bernstein Strategic Decisions Conference on May 29, an economic conference aimed at company executives and investors, Ostermann touched on an array of issues: How will Stellantis keep up with the blazing pace of Chinese automakers? How will the company address headwinds brought on by President Donald Trump's tariff policies? But to open the 50-minute discussion, Ostermann took a moment to praise Antonio Filosa, who was named the next CEO of Stellantis on May 28. "Antonio has, you know, kind of this proven track record of improving things, building things, getting at issues and being very hands-on," Ostermann said, pointing to his work in North and South America, where Jeep dominated South American markets under Filosa's guidance. "In the short time that he's been the head of North America, he fixed what was a significant inventory problem, adjusted pricing, built back the relationships with dealers," Ostermann said. "He's always been a man with a plan." Filosa, a self-described protégé of the late charismatic Fiat Chrysler leader Sergio Marchionne, is tasked with reviving a company that has lagged financially in the last several years. Under former CEO Carlos Tavares, Stellantis saw a 70% drop in net profit between 2023 and 2024. The struggles continued into 2025, as Stellantis' profits slid 14% in its first quarter of 2025. Ostermann, who has been with Stellantis-affiliated brands for eight years, says he trusts Filosa to lead the automaker out of the rough years. Stellantis names new CEO: Meet Antonio Filosa, the new CEO of Stellantis and protégé of Sergio Marchionne Fixing Model T's: Hot job? A growing field for mechanics who can fix Ford Model T's and antique cars Stellantis is an international company, managing 14 brands including Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat and several names in the European market. American dealers and factory workers have previously scolded the company for leaving American operations behind. With the compounding influence of a new leader in Filosa, who previously told the Free Press the United States is "the biggest priority" for Stellantis, and tariff policies seeking to reward automotive production in the United States, Ostermann said that he anticipates the company putting more focus on American production and jobs. Ostermann noted that several new models will be rolling out this year, including a midsize truck under the Ram banner and a retooled Jeep Cherokee on a hybrid powertrain, set to be released in the back half of 2025. The new Cherokee comes two years after the model was canceled in 2023, and Ostermann said it will be Stellantis' first vehicle with a full hybrid powertrain. Along with the new Cherokee, Ostermann mentioned Ram's upcoming foray into the midsize truck market — a segment in which Stellantis does not currently offer a vehicle. Plans for the new truck and other manufacturing, Ostermann said, are being made with tariffs in mind. "Clearly, we're going to be more biased toward the U.S. manufacturing going forward," Ostermann said, when asked how the brand is adjusting to proposed tariffs. "When we look at the opportunities that we have to get into, say, the midsize truck segment ... we have a natural space there with the Ram brand." He followed up, indicating plans are moving forward to build the truck in America. "I'm sure we will industrialize (the midsize truck) in the United States," Ostermann said. "Our intent, you know, going forward, and always, for the most part, has been to produce where we sell." The new CEO, Filosa, officially assumes control of the company on June 23, when he will be tasked with maintaining his record of improving things for the struggling automaker. Antonio Filosa from Jeep is the new Stellantis CEO
Stellantis has announced ex-Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa is its new CEO, replacing Carlos Tavares. Filosa will report to Stellantis chairman John Elkann. A new leadership team will be named shortly for the 14 brands under the Stellantis umbrella. Tavares was ousted from the CEO position following falling sales in the US. The company says Filosa was selected as Tavares's replacement based on his proven track record, and leadership skills. His global management experience was also taken into consideration. Filosa is Italian and joined Fiat in 1999. He eventually became COO of FCA Latin America. In 2021, he became COO for Stellantis South America and then global CEO of Jeep in late 2023. He oversaw the launch of the Jeep Avenger crossover. This EV has driven substantial growth for Jeep in Europe. Filosa also oversaw development of Recon and Wagoneer S. More recently, he launched the new-generation Jeep Compass which should boost Jeep sales globally. Moreover, he briefly held the post of COO for the Americas. There he drove a significant reduction in dealer stock, among other things. Of his new position, Filosa said: 'It is my great honour to be named the CEO of this fantastic company. I am grateful…for the confidence they have placed in me to lead our business during this pivotal time for our industry. 'I have always been inspired by the immense talent, passion and commitment of our people at Stellantis and the power of trusting our teams to achieve excellence. 'We have the world's best and most iconic brands in automotive history and an over 100-year heritage of innovation. 'That legacy, combined with our relentless dedication to giving our customers the products and services they love, will continue to be key to our success.' Elkann said: 'Antonio's deep understanding of our company…and of our industry equip him perfectly for the role of chief executive officer…' 'I have worked closely with Antonio over the past six months… and his strong and effective leadership…have confirmed the excellent qualities he brings to the role. 'Together with the entire board, I look forward to working with him.'

2026 Jeep Cherokee Teased with Hybrid Powertrain and Late 2025 Debut Planned
It's not quite a sinking ship, but Jeep has clearly faced rough waters since it pulled the old Cherokee SUV from production three years ago, leaving a massive hole in its line-up. It's been more than a year since the Stellantis off-road brand confirmed it would finally plug that gap and now we have the first official teaser of what's set to become the 2026 Jeep Cherokee. Though short on details, the release the automaker sent not only offered several different views of the new SUV but confirmed it will get a hybrid powertrain option for the first time. Even though the old Jeep Cherokee was withering away in the face of newer, more modern competition, few expected the automaker would take so long to come up with a replacement. The lack of a viable alternative filling the gap between the little compass and more up-market Grand Cherokee was a major factor in Jeep's sharp decline over the past three years. The launch of a sixth-generation Cherokee could be precisely what new Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa – the man who ran Jeep when the project got the green light – needs to turn things around. "The all-new Jeep Cherokee headlines our efforts to deliver more product, innovation, choice and standard content to customers than ever before," said Bob Broderdorf, the man who replaced Filosa as Jeep CEO. "Jeep Cherokee will boast competitive pricing that strikes at the core of the largest vehicle segment and sits perfectly between Jeep Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee to bolster our winning mainstream lineup." The initial teaser actually doesn't say much about the 2026 Jeep Cherokee, though one detail is significant. The new SUV will get "a new, efficient and powerful hybrid propulsion option," it revealed. Precisely what type of hybrid remains to be seen. Filosa previously told Autoblog that Jeep is working up six different powertrain technologies, four of them hybrid variants. That includes mild and conventional hybrid systems, as well as plug-in and range-extender options. Other sources suggested Cherokee actually may roll out with two hybrid options, including an upgraded version of Jeep's global eDCT hybrid, as well as a 4xe plug-in. The latter PHEV could get significantly longer range than in the current 4xe Jeeps. There's a growing industry consensus that plug-ins should provide 30-40 miles all-electric range, at a minimum, to meet the daily driving needs of the typical American motorist. As with every other Jeep product line, look for the 2026 Cherokee to be offered with a wide range of trim packages, along with powertrain options. That could range from low-end models like the Latitude, as well as more lavish alternatives geared primarily for on-road operations. But it's all but impossible to imagine any new Jeep nameplate minus the familiar "Trail-Rated" options, very likely to include a Rubicon edition. Based on Broderdorf's comment, Jeep is likely to avoid making any big jump in pricing for the new Cherokee. That was a mistake it made on a number of models in recent years, a strategy that also contributed to its sinking sales. The brand has taken steps to reposition a number of models, including Compass, Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer since last year. For now, the 2026 Jeep Cherokee is widely expected to start somewhere just north of $30,000, with high-line trims taking that into the mid-$40,000 range. The question is whether Jeep might have to pass on some of the costs associated with the Trump administration's auto tariffs. Even domestically made SUVs are expected to see production costs rise $2,000 or more due to duties on imported parts and components, according to Cox Automotive. The teaser from Jeep said the new model will "debut late 2025." That likely means we won't see it reaching showrooms until the very end of this year or, more likely, early in 2026. Stellantis' newly appointed CEO chooses Europe for first leg of company tour
MILAN, May 29 (Reuters) - Stellantis' ( opens new tab newly appointed CEO Antonio Filosa on Thursday picked Europe to kick off a tour of the automaker's production sites and offices before formally taking up his new job at the end of next month. Filosa's decision to begin his visits on the continent signalled an intention to start building solid relations in Stellantis' number two market after North America, having led the latter since October. Stellantis, the maker of brands including Jeep, Fiat, Peugeot, Chrysler and Opel, has seen its European market share decline over the last two years and also faces regulatory uncertainty as many expect the European Union could slow the shift towards auto electrification. Although Italian by nationality, Filosa, now based in the United States, has hardly ever worked in Italy or Europe. The CEO joined Fiat, now part of Stellantis, in 1999, where he held several roles, predominantly in Latin America. On Thursday morning Filosa was at the historic Italian Mirafiori plant, in Turin, Stellantis said. A source said he was scheduled to meet local management in the afternoon in the northern city which is home to Fiat. The source added that on Wednesday, the day of his official appointment, Filosa had already been in France, in Paris and at the Peugeot facility in Sochaux. Meetings with unions have not been scheduled and he is not expected to make any official appearances in his new role before June 23. Filosa will visit Stellantis' operations in Spain on Friday and is expected to be in Germany on Monday, the source said.
