News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Awards: Boys Swimming

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Here are your Primetime 585 Elite Award winners for boys swimming. He leads as the 'Outstanding Performer of the Year' after securing the Finger Lakes Division 2 Invitational title for the second consecutive year. His team followed behind him with their first-ever win in the Class D Sectional Championship He secured section titles for the second consecutive year in the 50 freestyle, in which he set a new Class D Meet record and the 100 butterfly. He also earned the title of 'Swimmer of the Meet.' His position as a competitor has long been solidified as he qualified for states in three events in the 50 freestyle and placed 12th. While he qualified for eleven events, he only participated in 4 state events due to a limit. He is the second swimmer to do this in Section V and the youngest, as the first junior to do so. In sectionals, he won the championship in both the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Individual Medley for the third year in a row. He has broken numerous school records and maintained a great academic profile, holding a 4.0 GPA and an 18-quarter streak of an average 95+. In recognition of his academic and sports performances, he was selected to attend the State Student Athlete Leadership Conference. He was then appointed Athlete Representative for thousands of swimmers across Buffalo. Syracuse, and Rochester through the Niagara Region of USA Swimming. McQuaid junior Ben Hinds, shines as our Primetime 585 Elite Award winner for Boys Swim Large, adding to his record as a winner and star student. Congratulations to Ben Hinds on his continued success! He helped his team to Finger Lakes Division 2 Invitational for the second consecutive year where he was named 'Outstanding Performer of the Meet' During this run, the team secured their first Class D Sectional Championship title. For the second consecutive year, he earned sectional titles in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. In the 50 he set a new Class D Meet Record, subsequently named Swimmer of the Meet. He has qualified for states in three events and competed in the 50 freestyle where he placed 12th Breaking multiple school records and committed to the sport, he has also maintained a 4.0 GPA.
