Jury sets record in Warren verdict
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — Juries are known to deliberate hours, days, even weeks in some cases, but a record was broken Wednesday in Trumbull County, where the verdict took just five minutes, according to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office.
James Finlaw, 50, of Warren, was found guilty of not reporting to his parole officer since 2020.
The case was prosecuted by Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Chris Becker. Finlaw was represented by two public defenders.
'I believe that may have set a record for Trumbull County,' Becker said. 'This was the shortest and quickest trial in my whole career.'
Becker called only one witness — Finlaw's parole officer.
Sentencing for Finlaw will happen in front of Judge Sarah Kovoor following a background investigation.
Finlaw was placed on parole after serving 18 months for an OVI felony conviction in 2019, which included a repeat offender specification, according to the prosecutor's office.
