Prime Minister Orders Full Medical Care for Jerash Accident Victims Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan on Tuesday instructed Health Minister Firas Al-Hawari to ensure that all those injured in the traffic accident on the Jerash-Ajloun road receive full medical and health care. اضافة اعلان During a Cabinet session held in Ajloun Governorate, Hassan also extended his condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in the tragic accident that occurred on the same road on Monday. According to the spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate, rescue and ambulance teams from the Jerash Civil Defense dealt with a collision involving a mid-sized passenger bus and a "Diana" vehicle near the Souf Triangle on the Jerash-Ajloun road. In a press statement, the spokesperson said that the accident resulted in two fatalities and 20 injuries, with varying degrees of wounds and bruises. Ambulance teams provided first aid at the scene and transported the injured, along with the deceased, to Jerash Governmental Hospital, Princess Haya Military Hospital, Al-Iman Governmental Hospital, and Al-Safa Specialty Hospital. All injuries are currently under medical treatment. The spokesperson also noted that a traffic investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the accident.

Minister of Health Visits New Princess Basma Hospital Project The Minister of Health, Dr. Firas Al-Hawari, visited the new Princess Basma Hospital project to review the readiness of the plans in preparation for the transition from the current hospital building to the new one once the construction works are completed, and the project is handed over to the Ministry of Health by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. اضافة اعلان Dr. Al-Hawari, accompanied by Irbid Governor Radwan Al-Atoum and the two Secretary Generals of the Ministry of Health – Dr. Ilham Al-Khreisat for administrative and technical affairs, and Dr. Raed Al-Shoboul for primary health care and epidemics – toured the departments of the new hospital project. He emphasized the need for the plans for operating the new facility, upon final handover, to ensure that healthcare services are not disrupted during the transition. He explained that the hospital's operational plan will be gradual to ensure that health services are not interrupted during the relocation of medical devices, furniture, and staff from the old building to the new one. The hospital will also be equipped with modern medical devices, and additional required staff will be hired in line with the Ministry of Health's new approach for opening and operating health facilities gradually, with the aim of training and qualifying healthcare workers to ensure high readiness for full operation. The Minister of Health affirmed that the new Princess Basma Hospital project has been designed to efficiently serve its patients and to serve as a referral center for all Ministry of Health hospitals. He added that the hospital will be equipped with modern medical devices to enable it to provide the necessary healthcare services. Dr. Al-Hawari emphasized that the Ministry of Health is committed to improving the provision of medical services across all its hospitals and health centers, enhancing the efficiency and readiness of its infrastructure, and ultimately providing the best possible services to patients and visitors. — (Petra)

Alarming tobacco use in Jordan, health minister releases survey results

A national survey on tobacco use among adults, launched by the Ministry of Health, has revealed concerning statistics regarding tobacco consumption in Jordan. According to the survey, daily smoking rates stand at 65 percent among men and 17 percent among women. The survey further indicated that 38.6 percent of smokers began their habit before the age of 18, highlighting the early onset of tobacco use among the population. Minister of Health, Dr. Firas Al-Hawari, announced these findings during the launch of the national survey, which covered individuals aged 15 and above. In related news, Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Sites, Dr. Mohammad Al-Khalaileh, emphasized that all Islamic jurisprudence bodies worldwide classify smoking as forbidden due to its harmful effects. He pointed out that Islam prohibits anything that harms the human body, with smoking being a prime example. Al-Khalaileh stressed that Islam prioritizes the preservation of life as one of its core objectives, urging the use of these findings to promote awareness campaigns that combine both religious and health perspectives to combat smoking and its devastating effects.
